Simply put, the owner throught the man might want to keep such a valuable rare book. So rather than keep it and sell it, he acts in the Man's best interest and has hjs daughter return the valuable book.

Guy leaves a box full of books, one of em is a Sherlock Holmes who’s worth a lot. The same dude comes back to the store and the store owner and the little girl think he is after the Sherlock Holmes one, instead he goes after another book. One way older is an ancient Greek book. Inside there’s a message from his father, which makes the book more valuable than anything
