It's amazing that you are having cooler nights already! I cannot wait to enjoy the cool evenings on the patio, for now, it is just too hot and humid. Maybe in November??? 🤣
Beautiful garden! And I'm in love with your blue walkway! I had told my husband earlier that I wanted a wooden walkway but never thought of painting it...ty for the inspiration ❤
@vickirudolph2941 thank you fir this sweet message! I'm so glad you like the walkway, I have to admit, I do, too! It's a translucent blue stain that I got from Lowe's. 😁💙
I'm in north Louisiana, zone 8b. I'm so ready for our "cool down" this week. We are at 101° right now, but tomorrow it will only get to 92°! And, as you said, the big relief will be lows in the 60's later in the week!!!
@SHARONRENEA15 yes!!! Even minor temp drops (or less humidity) mean so much! Enough to renew our motivation and enable us to work a bit more out there. May you get your predicted 60s overnight this week!!!!!
Hi Nicole, your garden still looks good, and yes it is hard to keep up with deadheading and weeding and some of us get way behind and then have to work harder to catch up...oh well! still enjoy gardening, enjoy your videos.
@user-de7bn9gl3u it's so true, even with the extra work, I enjoy gardening too. Wouldn't change it for the world! Thanks for your message - always great to hear from like-minded gardeners! 💚
thanks nicole for a great video. even this time of the year your garden is still amazing. lot of work but it's worth it. the elephant ears are huge love it!!! mine are not quite that big. thanks for sharing with us.
@@soniewhitten4844 you know how much I appreciate you writing, but thank you once again! Are your elephant ears jumbo? If not, that could be the reason. I've decided I won't grow anything besides the jumbo ones anymore. The others just grow like weeds for me here. Anyway, may you see some relief in your temps! Have a great week!
Nicole your garden still looks lovely even after the flood. I especially love the elephant ears. I’m going to try some in pots next year. Mine in the ground didn’t get as big as expected but your are gorgeous
Thank you very much for this message! I don't really know what the trick is to get the elephant ears bigger - though I am thinking the variety makes a difference. I saw some very pretty green and white ones in the nursery yesterday, but decided not to get them because I think they'll be small like my black ones, and I don't find them to be as impactful. Have a great evening!
Hi Nicole, your garden looks great after that storm! This summer’s heat really took its toll on gardens. The sun’s 🌞rays were beautiful that morning in your garden 🌸🌸🌸. I think some pineapple or Mexican sage would be beautiful in your garden!
Thank you so much for this sweet message! I keep a notepad of suggested plants and flowers so I can keep them in mind when I'm out and about. 🙂 Hope you have a great evening!
Nicole, it is so good to see your garden is coming alive again. And isn't it wonderful to get a little reprieve from the heat? Keep up the great work in your garden. Looking good!! See you next time.
Awe, thank you so much! 😁❤Yes, a little reprieve is wonderful! I am looking forward to the evenings over the next few days... Thanks again, and see you next time!
I’m in upstate SC zone 8a. We have been feeling some cool mornings recently and I’m loving it. It has been so hot and humid that I could only stand to work in my gardens at daybreak and I would still be drenched from the humidity! My black elephant ears have done the best ever this year. During most of this summer I’ve had the irrigation system running twice a day and I feed them with miracle grow every two weeks. I just changed my irrigation back to once a day this past week. We got lots of rain from tropical storm Debbie too!
@CrepeMyrtleRow thanks so much for writing! I'm wondering if I need to miracle grow my black elephant ears more. I got off schedule of fertilizing with all the rain, but now with the bit of a temp dip (and less rain), I'm thinking the garden will feel as much of a relief as we do.... so time to miracle grow and watch the magic. Have a great week!
@stefanischilling6401 thank you, I always appreciate your comments! 😁 It's so fun to think about what we can create in our yards, and get to enjoy all the time ❤️ Thank you for writing, and I hope you have a great week as well!
Aww, your nightime temps give me hope, Nicole! We dodged the tropical storm here in zone 9b Florida, (so sorry for you although you got some great live shots!) but my garden is looking pretty raggedy with the heat. My coleus, plus black and blue salvia, vitex tree and crape mrytle are hanging in there and the butterflies have been going crazy with the pentas!! You do have the most gorgeous tropical garden, glad you got a shopping trip in!
@user-bu4jk2jq4l I appreciate your message so much!! I have to say, my black and blue Salvia is also looking raggedy, as are a few other plants in my front yard. I gave things a hair cut today hoping that will help. Gosh, definitely a labor of love, right? Have a great week!!
Hi Nicole 🌺. Your garden looks amazing in this time of the year and your caladium and elephant ears are so pretty in your garden as the dipladenia . You can add to your garden pink monarda or Have agreat day azalia or jatropha .. Have a great day . 🌺🌻🌺
@@linakhoury6623 thank you!!! I appreciate your suggestions so much! Hope you and your garden are doing well with the summer weather. Have a great week!! ☺️💚🌺
We are still in the 100s here 😢 Hopefully today was our hottest day (heat index 117) and it'll start to gradually cool off after this. It'll be mid September before I can start planting anything else again. I put my black elephant ears in full sun and they did great! They are around 6ft tall right now. They are just now experiencing leaf burn which is amazing. Try moving some of yours into full sun next year and see how they do. I have noticed my banana trees that get full sun all day are the ones with the leaves turning black, but there isn't much I can do about that, just gotta wait for my other trees to grow larger to help with shade. Your garden is so pretty! I get excited when I see a new video from you. Great work! Please keep sharing
Yikes to your crazy temps!!! 117 is gross. I will try giving my black elephant ears more sun next year as you said, I'd love to see them get huge!! Thank you so much for you kind words, I really appreciate them, and it helps keep me motivated to do more! 😁🌺
Beautiful garden. There is a solution with garlic and water to spray your cannas. The worms don t like the smell and the taste of garlic. On that place where you said it needs some colour, some pink, could you put some hanging baskets on the fence or it is not something you wish? I hope your little tree in the water will recover. 🤞
Garlic & water - hmm, I have tons of garlic in my house because my family loves it so I will look up the solution for my poor cannas. I am definitely considering hanging baskets, or planters, or SOMETHING to get color in the area, so I thank you for that suggestion. Hope you have a great week!
Howdy I’m Mike from north Alabama zone 8a love your yard I am working on a tropical area around my fountain angels trumpets Mexican petunias agapsnthus amaryllis and few other things and yess banana trees but it’s a area off my porch rest of the yard is southern and northern plant mixes it’s my zen keeps me busy but first frosty freeze is early mid November and last usually march 27th depending on winter but I’ll keep watching I’m outside Huntsville in the mountains
@michaeloconnor8315 great to hear from you, Mike! Sounds like you have a great variety of plants. "It's my zen" - I 100% relate to that! We're very similar in temps, it sounds, but my last avg frost date is April 15, so later than yours. Have a great week and thanks again for reaching out!
Good question - not that I know of. I can see the kind I have in the ground (from the same plant) in more sun is a lighter color, so I wonder if that's making the difference?
Hi there! They are in sun or partial sun. Sadly for me, my gardens are all in mostly sun, as I attempt to build more shade into my property. I love Charleston!!
Just an FYI, Canna ‘Bengal Tiger’ doesn’t produce good seed. So they’re only able to be propagated through divisions- make sure to clean your tools to not transmit any of the Canna viruses.
Do you have your dark elephants ears in full sun? They love full 🌞😊❤ I'm in zone 7B and my elephant ears...Pampas Grasses have grown so big this year. I've never seen them get as big as they have this year!!
@SometimeAgo65 thank you - I will move them next year to a sunnier spot. Technically my yard is all sun, but they may get some shade from the banana trees. ☺️ That is so cool that yours are so big!!!!

Beautiful garden. I’m ready for cooler temps too.
Thank you, and heck yeah!! ☺️💚
I get the leaf roller caterpillars on my cannas too. I just unroll the leaf and hand feed the little worms to the green anole lizards… they love them!
Oh my gosh, I love that!! I would definitely do that!
