    This is an older video but I like watching or rewatching them. I do my bacon the same way except I put a cookies sheet on top of the bacon as well. It keeps them flatter and even less splatter in my oven. I was so glad to learn this trick some years back as I was tired of getting popped by bacon grease and also all the splatter on my range top.

    Most restaurants and professional kitchens cook their bacon in the oven. We use parchment paper rather than foil. Also you don’t have to turn it. Just keep an eye on it. After cooking so much of it, I can tell by the smell when it’s ready.

      @@ChefDuJour78 I have no doubt.
      Does not change the fact that in MY little residential kitchen I HAVE to turn the bacon. Even though I KNOW that it is unnecessary. And even delaying.
      I still turn it. Am working on it though.

      I ran a B&B for awhile. My cousin told me about cooking it on a cookie tray (I used parchment paper). I cooked in on a lower temperature, so I wouldn't accidentally burn it while busy with other cooking tasks. If it wasn't quite ready when I needed it, I'd turn it up and watch carefully to finish it off. My guests loved it. Crispy, not too greasy, not burnt (the way I did it). I like bacon when you can hold the bottom in your fingers and the bacon stands up straight.

    Another idea. I cook a whole batch and eat 1/2 (by myself if no one else is there!) and lay the other half flat (side by side) in a gallon freezer bag for future use. Take out of the oven and reheat as needed. Works great for added kick to sandwiches!

    I cook 3 lbs of this at a time. I put all the 3x trays in a cold oven, set the temp to 400 and the timer to 20-22 mins, depending on thickness. Take out, change the stacking order of the trays, flip (if desired) and finish it all off 2-3 more mins. This method has consistently given me good results. The whole house smells great too.

    I discovered that bacon can be made in the microwave of all places! It came out nice and crispy too. It cooked in three minutes, on a paper plate with three napkins on top and another paper plate to keep the grease from splattering all over the microwave. love bacon sandwiches, just some Mayo and toast. Yummy. God bless you and your family.

    I love your videos! I'm making your Christmas pot roast as I write this. When I was a young bride, I learned to cook bacon in the oven in a broiler pan. The pan is about 13 x 9 and it has another cookie-sheet type piece with drainage holes that goes on top. 400 degrees for 20 minutes, no turning necessary. Back then I used regular bacon; maybe thicker bacon like I use now would probably take longer. (I use a griddle nowadays when I cook bacon .)
    Merry Christmas to your family, Becky!

  • @highlandmist

    I've done this in the past but nowadays I make bacon in my Airfryer toaster oven. Bacon comes out perfectly browned on both sides and if you spread it on a wire rack above a cookie sheet, you can then use long tongs to take the bacon out without handling the hot grease, just let it cool and congeal and then pull the tray out. I'm shaky and clumsy so I don't handle hot grease. Thanks for the great tips, recipes and videos! ❤ I've used your recipes more than any other channel on TH-cam!

    I like cooking bacon on a bed of paper towels, laid on a dinner plate in the microwave. I cover 4-5 pieces with a paper towel and cook on high for 4 minutes, then check it. Sometimes it needs rotating (center pieces moved to the outside), most times it doesn’t. Comes out perfectly every time. The only downside is sometimes I like to save the bacon grease for gravies or home made refried beans. I’m SO GLAD I found this channel. This is an answer to prayer for preparing breakfast when all the grandkids are here. Thank you and blessings to you.

    I've been baking my bacon for years and use a roasting pan that has a rack, that way I don't have to flip the bacon over and it's not sitting in the fat (but I started out that way). I sometimes put a piece of parchment paper in the pan for easy cleanup. Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes; that is for crispier bacon... we don't like it floppy. Great video Becky!

  • @essemsween818
    @essemsween818 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    If you put a rack on the sheet and do the bacon on that, I find it easier to turn. Plus it stays drier as the fat drips through to the foil and cooks faster as the heat reaches both sides. (I use an old baking cooling rack, grid style)

    • @TheHillbillyKitchen
      @TheHillbillyKitchen  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Essem Sweeney Several people have said they use a rack. I tried it on a wire cooling and my husband claimed he didn't like it as good. I think it came out a little harder. You're right about it cooking faster. It cut the cooking time by about 1/3. I'm all about better and easier ways to do things and people should try the rack and see which way they prefer. Thanks for the suggestion and tips!

      +The Hillbilly Kitchen - Down Home Country Cooking You're welcome, I think your husband's right, it may be to do with not sitting in the fat while it cooks, or just getting the timing right.

    • @TheHillbillyKitchen

      Essem Sweeney Sitting in the fat does change the taste. The foamy grease really makes bacon good. Not good for you, but gooood :)

    When I bake bacon. I put aluminum foil on top of the bacon--touching the bacon. It gets crisp and doesn't splatter grease all over my oven. If the foil isn't touching the bacon, then it will just steam it and not crisp it. I also don't like the smell of hot meat cooking so the foil keeps the strong smell contained. When I was a kid, I ate my bacon boiled.

Nothing as good as a homecooked hamburger but the smell of the grease makes me sick and another one is of course, liver!! Thats the nastiest smell ever! (Even with onions on it) Liver is nasty anyway! Lol. Everybodies taste n smells are different! God Bless you hun...🙏❤🙏😀
