Perfect Bacon Every Time Without a Skillet - No Mess - The Hillbilly Kitchen

  • Perfect bacon every time! No skillet necessary! Bacon that has been baked in the oven makes less of a mess than frying bacon on the stove. It cooks more thoroughly and evenly and is not as greasy. It also cooks flat and doesn't curl up like bacon that has been fried in a pan. Bacon that has been baked is also more crispy than bacon that has been fried in a pan.

    This is an older video but I like watching or rewatching them. I do my bacon the same way except I put a cookies sheet on top of the bacon as well. It keeps them flatter and even less splatter in my oven. I was so glad to learn this trick some years back as I was tired of getting popped by bacon grease and also all the splatter on my range top.

    Most restaurants and professional kitchens cook their bacon in the oven. We use parchment paper rather than foil. Also you don’t have to turn it. Just keep an eye on it. After cooking so much of it, I can tell by the smell when it’s ready.

      I ran a B&B for awhile. My cousin told me about cooking it on a cookie tray (I used parchment paper). I cooked in on a lower temperature, so I wouldn't accidentally burn it while busy with other cooking tasks. If it wasn't quite ready when I needed it, I'd turn it up and watch carefully to finish it off. My guests loved it. Crispy, not too greasy, not burnt (the way I did it). I like bacon when you can hold the bottom in your fingers and the bacon stands up straight.

Take out, change the stacking order of the trays, flip (if desired) and finish it all off 2-3 more mins. This method has consistently given me good results. The whole house smells great too.

    Working in the restaurant as a cook its always cooked in the oven for just the reason she mentioned... it really does come out better then a pan unless you're doing just a few pieces.
    I let the pan cool a bit then strain the grease thru a filter before storing in the frig (good up to about 6mo. Or so..)

    I love your videos! I'm making your Christmas pot roast as I write this. When I was a young bride, I learned to cook bacon in the oven in a broiler pan. The pan is about 13 x 9 and it has another cookie-sheet type piece with drainage holes that goes on top. 400 degrees for 20 minutes, no turning necessary. Back then I used regular bacon; maybe thicker bacon like I use now would probably take longer. (I use a griddle nowadays when I cook bacon .)
    Merry Christmas to your family, Becky!

    I like cooking bacon on a bed of paper towels, laid on a dinner plate in the microwave. I cover 4-5 pieces with a paper towel and cook on high for 4 minutes, then check it. Sometimes it needs rotating (center pieces moved to the outside), most times it doesn’t. Comes out perfectly every time. The only downside is sometimes I like to save the bacon grease for gravies or home made refried beans. I’m SO GLAD I found this channel. This is an answer to prayer for preparing breakfast when all the grandkids are here. Thank you and blessings to you.

    I've done this in the past but nowadays I make bacon in my Airfryer toaster oven. Bacon comes out perfectly browned on both sides and if you spread it on a wire rack above a cookie sheet, you can then use long tongs to take the bacon out without handling the hot grease, just let it cool and congeal and then pull the tray out. I'm shaky and clumsy so I don't handle hot grease. Thanks for the great tips, recipes and videos! ❤ I've used your recipes more than any other channel on TH-cam!

That way, whenever you need bacon for a sandwich or breakfast just pop the individual slices covered with paper towels into the microwave and reheat them about 10 seconds per slice. What a time and mess saver!

    For baking the thin sliced bacon, take two (or three) slices off of the slab together. The double thickness cooks almost exactly like one slice of thick bacon. And no, the bottom slice does not cook less than the top slice.

    I’ve been doing this for years. I’ve told people about it and some think I’m “nuts.” The only thing I would add is, cover the bacon with a loose sheet of foil to keep down the splattering in the oven. You can also use this method outside on the grill. Also, if you only need to cook 3 or 4 slices, you can put it on a plate with a thick layer of paper towels (also cover with more paper towels) in the microwave. I use a heavy paper plate for the easiest clean up. I haven’t cooked bacon in a skillet for a long while. This pan method is easy, bacon is cooked perfectly end to end, and like you said, stays nice and flat with out the “curling.” Thanks for the vid. I’m glad to see that others use this method.

  • @essemsween818
    @essemsween818 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    If you put a rack on the sheet and do the bacon on that, I find it easier to turn. Plus it stays drier as the fat drips through to the foil and cooks faster as the heat reaches both sides. (I use an old baking cooling rack, grid style)

    • @TheHillbillyKitchen
      @TheHillbillyKitchen  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Essem Sweeney Several people have said they use a rack. I tried it on a wire cooling and my husband claimed he didn't like it as good. I think it came out a little harder. You're right about it cooking faster. It cut the cooking time by about 1/3. I'm all about better and easier ways to do things and people should try the rack and see which way they prefer. Thanks for the suggestion and tips!

    I don't know why I've never done this!...I can somewhat relate to your aunt. About 10 yrs. ago I spilled baked beans on both my legs taking them out of the oven. It was horrible! Mine healed in about 6-8 mos. It was mostly summer so wearing those net things on both legs was pretty embarrassing but finally healed with tons of doctor visits, cleaning & changing bandages...
