    Thank you Mary, this is indeed a great tip, I cook 9-10 lbs of bacon every 2 months and freeze it, this way we also get about 1 1/2 cup of bacon fat for cooking. This is a really easy method and since we are on keto it is very convenient. (Update since my last comment: my husband is completely medication free for both diabetes and high blood pressure, his blood glucose and high blood pressure readings are in the normal range daily and he lost 40 lbs. As far as I go I am getting much stronger and I on top of getting up to do some cleaning and cooking I have included a 1 mile walk daily, all this since March.) The Lord is awesome, Glory to God! thank you for all your awesome videos

    I do the same as you, except I start the bacon in a cold oven. I find that as the temperature gradually increases, it completely renders the fat without burning the bacon.

      Thank you so much! It was made in Italy. When we bought this home many many years ago the island was not tiled but the backsplash was. I had one loose tile that had been left by the previous homeowner and so I tried to find more tile so that we could tile the island to match the backsplash. Can you believe it had been completely discontinued but I found one box at a tile store in Houston Texas! And it was just enough tile to tile the island! How about that! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️

    Hi Mary. I agree, cooking in the oven seems to be the least messiest. Also, if you have a self cleaning oven it can take care of that splatter that will obviously happen while in the oven. Wish someone would invent a cover to fit over that baking sheet that would vent the steam but keep the roasting going. I love bacon, just don’t like the mess it makes. Thanks for the great video 🤗

    I use parchment paper and - carefully - pour the drippings in a Pyrex bowl (with lid). If you are into cooking with lard - bacon fat lasts in the refrigerator a long time and makes great fried eggs, or just about fried anything.

    Oven baking is the best way to make bacon for sure. I noticed your bacon shrank substantially in the video. Mine doesn't shrink that much. But I put my bacon in a cold oven (not preheated) and then turn it to 375 degrees for give or take 30 minutes. You might want to try the cold oven method and see if that helps. Love your videos!

    Hi Mary, for many many years I only fried my bacon in a frying pan. Well I read somewhere how nice it comes out when you bake it in the oven so I tried it. You are absolutely right! It does come out so much better in the oven with less mess. Who doesn’t love easy cleanup! Thanks for sharing with us. Have a great weekend and I’ll see you soon, Dolores 🥰

    I wonder if you folded the aluminum foil accordian style first then placed on baking sheet then bacon would have some space under it to possibly crisp faster 🤔? Hmm.

    At 1:58 I laughed. "And again your baking sheet is clean" LOL. Mine is brown, rusty and crusty. There always seems to be a rip or hole in the foil after I cover the pan. The bacon comes out great, except the baking sheet never comes out clean like yours.

    Thanks for sharing this idea, however, I've been cooking bacon like this for years. Personally, I prefer the parchment paper because the clean up is much easier than the foil because the foil sometimes tears causing greasy leakage on the baking sheet, but then again that's just my experience.
    Thanks for all your recipes. Have a beautiful day!

    So since it flipped here, I'll watch it....as I make mine in the oven too....so will see if you have a better way....
    I too make mine in the oven, but I use a rack, I have a non stick rack, so not a mess to wash it and the grease drains in bottom of pan, I do turn bacon about half way thru baking and all the grease go in the bottom the bacon isn't sitting on grease :) no need to use paper towels....but I still put the bacon on one piece of paper towel just in case there might be some grease....
    But interested in the meat discount you mentioned, will have to check it another day it's late now almost 2:30 got to get to bed or start cooking one...lol....thanks for the info....

    Yes, I cook bacon in the oven, then let it cool. Laying on parchment, stacking 12 slices, can use a foodsaver machine to seal...you can store cooked bacon on shelf for long, long period of time. This what those pre cooked bacon companies do...and in case of a survival situation, you have bacon. I worked in food service for years, a chef by culinary school...my suggestions can help store bacon for a long time in case of shortages.

    Thanks for the idea. Will try it. I have done it in the microwave, in layers with paper towels between. Works well, but am always open to a new idea. And I usually will do it in my large cast iron skillet, as you loose the grease in the microwave method to the paper towels. You can get more in the oven than the skillet. Your other videos sound interesting, so will check them out. Thanks. Have subbed.

    Put parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Place bacon. Bake at 300 degrees.
    The lower temperature bakes the bacon more evenly. No need to turn bacon.
    Cook til your crispy preference.
    For clean up, leave cookie sheet with the parchment paper and bacon grease in the oven overnight.
    The bacon grease will cool and harden and make clean up less messy.
    Thank me later after breakfast.

    I’ve been cooking our bacon in the oven for years, just like this, except I use both foil and parchment. Foil to protect my pan and parchment so the bacon isn’t touching the foil. Our food shouldn’t be cooked right on foil...carcinogens. Also, I use a broiling pan instead with a higher edge than a sheet pan so I can put a piece of foil on the top to protect my oven from all the grease. If we cook bacon often that grease builds up fast and makes a mess inside the oven, and could cause a fire.

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SissyCal8 - Hi Sissy, Thanks so much for sharing your method. I have a question. Are you able to find parchment paper that does not have a non-stick coating. I have been noticing that all the parchment papers are coming coated now. And I am wondering what it is that they’re coated with. Love, Mary❤️😘❤️

    • @cynthiavasiento
      @cynthiavasiento 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mary! I was wondering the same and found out most are coated with silicone. Silicone (for now anyway) is considered safe 😆 The bigger issue is bleached parchment contains dioxin so it’s better to use unbleached. I use unbleached parchment to line my baking sheet when I cook bacon- you’re right, it is absolutely the best way to cook bacon hands down! God bless ❤️

    I move one side of the oven rack up or down a notch so the pan is sloped. It self-drains as it cooks. Don't place bacon on the last few inches of the lower end - where all the grease will settle. When you take it out, set a fork or such under the high side so the grease doesn't flow back over the bacon.

  • @general.disdain

    I searched the comments a little for the answer but didn’t see anyway. I was wondering if you turned the bacon halfway through the bake time or you just left it cooking on the same side the whole time?

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for visiting. Might the temperature of 250 be Celsius?
      I find that 425F cooks the bacon the best. Others might find that 400F works better. But I find that at 400F, the bacon tends to curl and not cook up fast enough to a nice flat, crisp texture. But every oven is different and everyone's tastes are different. But getting back to your oven, 250C would be about 482F so you would be able to cook bacon. 400F would be about 204C and 425F would be about 218C. Let me know how it all turns out. Love and God Bless, Mary
