I'll never forget his triumphant return to SMW after getting clean & sober. His shoot was epic and was one of the most touching moments I ever witnessed in wrestling. Much respect to this absolute legend RIP!
That was Bullshit. He was still doing drugs. When they asked Buddy about doing the drugs he said he was on vacation from being clean. The car accident death? A lie. His heart gave out from drugs
The Gospel ain’t for sale! 🙏🏽
Amen
I love how in retrospect these guys went an hour everynight and sold out every show they did.
Ya it's like the grandparents who tell ya they walked 30 miles 1 way in snow everyday to kindergarten.
No they really did, not just tales like the comment above reads. These ole guys wrestled an hour and btso each other unlike the crap of today.
Old school guys are taught to ALWAYS put themselves over and sell
@@peacethroughstrength172 Bro, I went to probably 100 cards in the 80's and early 90's in Norfolk, Richmond and Hampton and saw exactly 3 one hour draws, all main events and all involving Ric Flair (vs. Magnum, vs. Nikita and vs. Barry Windham)
“They were hanging from the rafters.”
Well, if Jim Crocket promotion paid off his IRS dept, then you're expected to pay the promotion back. They took the money he owed them out of his payoffs.
He should be thanking Jim Crocket for keeping him out of jail.
Buddy had a bit of a persecution complex … he often thought that he was getting screwed by a promoter.
Yep, Flair got bailed out the same way but he was loyal to Crockett.
Miss you buddy !!! What energy, what a great character!
On June 21, 2015, Landel was involved in a car crash. He was hospitalized and reportedly checked himself out against his doctor's wishes, eventually returning to his home in Chilhowie, Virginia. He told his wife Donna that he was "feeling bad", and she found him dead the next morning.
Probably didn’t want to die alone in the hospital🤘🏻
Buddy was a tremendous talent with the NWA World Title coming and he missed a show. He had strong demons which was very sad. But he was an amazing talent. RIP
He was my friend.
lol he's wearing countess mara and I'm wearing jc penny
I can listen to B.L. tell wrestling stories all day
Buddy sounded like a REALLY GOOD GUY , A REAL GUY !
Yeah? He started crap with dudes in a Convertible, threw a bottle at their car then pulled a gun. Yeah, real swell.
@@ordinarypete The OTHER guys DID start it
Obviously The Crocketts saw the greatness of Flair as an attraction in wrestling, as l saw it.
No disrespect......but flair is the reason I watched wrestling. I've heard others say this. The man deserved it.
Same reason l didn't drop off while Flair was happening in the 80s
Loads Of New RESPECT for Buddy Landel, " The Gospel ain't for sale " R.I.P Sir
I remember the days when pro wrestling was filled with real characters. Buddy was great on the mic & in the ring. Bummer that his decisions outside the ropes derailed his career.
I'm gonna have to go back and look because i don't see a great promo or matches. All i ever saw was a wannabe flair... flair on a budget... flair is walmart but landel is dollar general
About 20 years ago I was eating in a Chinese restaurant in Knoxville, TN, lunch time, and throughout the meal I keep hearing this man's voice just talking super loud the whole time. When I get finished and as I'm walking out I see it's Buddy sitting with a woman just talking loud as Hell....lol.
So sad. What a waste of an awesome talent! Great worker, looks, and sharp on the mic. God rest his soul!
Listening to the veterans talk about the old days gives me a new found respect for the business
Awesome clip & Buddy was awesome in all aspects of pro wrestling, gone to soon but he's to good to ever be forgotten!! Also, I think he had one of the best names for a wrestler, Buddy Landel to me is a perfect name for a wrestler!!
Agreed
Buddy was great in midsouth and JCP, and SMK as a face
Buddy Landell could have been an enormous draw in the NWA. Imagine the story telling that could have been once the Horsemen were formed. Lots of potential drawing power there
Especially since J.J. Dillon served as Manager for both Buddy Landell and Ric Flair. The Storyline could've easily turned Landell Face as Dillon's new compadres jumped him time and again.🤔🎤🐴💎👔👞👞🤼♂️B.W.
@@madbrowniac7871 absolutely! Lots of great stuff could have been done there
Love me some Buddy Landell. Was he as successful as he could have been? No. Still great and still charming. RIP to a one of a kind.
RIP Buddy, we miss ya, 🙏
" oh your Harley Race".. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was good video. I remember watching Buddy...
The Garvin overhand slaps, I loved it.
I don’t think there’s too many people in the business today that can do 60 minute programs.
I didn't like Buddy when I was a young wrestling fan. Now in my old age I realize this man was pure gold! RIP Mr Landell...
Same here. The heels sold their act magnificently. I appreciate all of them!!!
The Gospel ain’t for sale ….. your right Buddy !!! God Loves you my friend !
Flair was not making 70k a week
I was thinking the same thing. Ric was making 70k a month, not 70k a week.
Id luv to see some garvin/Landell matches!
I think it's pretty fair for Crockett to garnish Buddy's wages if he paid off his tax debt
What’s crazy is how we think we can escape our plans..
He was supposed to be with Magnum TA the night of his crash then later falls to his own demise from a crash..
That’s called RASSSSSSSSSSLINNNNNNN
Seems like he was SUPPOSE to be in that car. If you get my drift. It was hit job. They had to do it twice.
IMO... beautiful Bobby Eaton was the best
I like how Buddy calls out some of the wrestlers using the church as a new hustle Amen 😇
I know I read about buddy becoming a Christian, nothing wrong with that. As far as I know, buddy never used the church as a "hustle" though.
I hate to see that stuff going on
Yes sir, biggest work of Dibiase's career is him being s minister.
@michaelwilliams7400 he teddy and Tully are both crooks. Like buddy says the lord isn't forsale.
Can’t speak for his younger years in the ring. I met him in 2011 and couldn’t be a nicer, funnier guy. Very nice guy. RIP
Dont know why Landel is complaining He was making slightly less than Ric was spending on spilt liqour from one side of this world to the other which is stilla lot.
Buddy was a good heel.
Nice to see everyone loves Tully lol
I love buddy but come on … an hour every night for 30 days straight with Ronnie Garvin? So assuming Flair went an hour also (bc every match he talks about lasted an hour) I guess the card took 5 hours lol
I doubt flair was making 60k per week in 1985 lol
Buddy looked like my Uncle Mike.
Still a smooth operator! Looking good Buddy! Very fun to watch this.
Buddy was dead on about Ted Dibiase
I missed that part
I loved wrestling as a kid and adult even I don’t remember buddy but I was born in 82
He is brutally honest.
Given his history of drug abuse, Buddy Landell spoke very well in this interview
Ricky Morton should have a a world title run at least for 30-60 days
He said a lot of guys in the business today couldn't do an hour Broadway match with Ronnie Garvin. A lot of guys in the business today couldn't do a 10 minute match with anyone.
Flair would do 5 hour long broadways a week for years.
It's not necessarily charging. It's having the expenses covered.
I'm amazed at how these guys are still here to talk about these road stories.
He's not, Buddy's dead.
I believe buddy passed away in 2015. Rip buddy landel
God bless Buddy Landel … a National Treasure
Funny how a guy who pretended to Flair, says he doesn't like him.
Cowboy Bob Orton sold against Hogan really well in a match I saw on TH-cam
Love Buddy
Well done Buddy👍
If he is tellling the truth and Flair got 60k in a week then Landell should have got 6k. 3k a week in the 80's is a lot of money. Its not bad today.
love buddy as a performer. there's a lot of sour grapes here in regards to the crocketts. still love the guy.
Lol the way he resets his hair
I dont want to see no 59 minute match with Buddy L, im sorry.....i did like him & Dundee together though in 85___ RIP
So Crockett paid off his IRS debt then he quit him...nice 🙄
Shame about his addictions...was fun to watch in the ring and on the mic.
promoters would pay the main event challenger to the champ absolutely Nothing.........in the wwf, it was frightening........
I hated Flair and Landel for different reasons. Flair because Dusty was my favorite, Landel because he was trying to be Flair and sucked.
ty.... buddy was great all around
A lot of complaining.
I love these stories!
Well! Ric Flair lived that life to this day, no
Gimmick for him, But for Buddy it was a gimmick! Flair was the real deal styling and profiling wheeling and dealing and y’all know the rest! 🤣 Wooo!
Unfortunately, that is what also made Flair lose most of his money.
@alanguages Yes, and as much of a Flair mark as I was, the dude is just embarrassing now. Like David Lee Roth. I have a picture of me and Flair from years ago framed on my living room wall, but he just needs to go sit down and shut up now.
@shaunclifton5281 I just saw him on a Car Sheild commercial yesterday and I keep hearing his erection pill commercial on the radio
@@alanguages Yeah that's true, but he has lived a life most only dream of. He spent everything he made but had a awesome time spending it.
@@jeffsandy5088 That depends. Flair was effectively an absentee father as well. I am sure there are regrets he has. If he was an eternal bachelor it wouldn't matter as much.
Buddy could have been huge in wwf against hogan he just always blew it with the promoters.wait he died? I had no idea thats sad
Gosh! This sounds like just a filthy business. Why would you subject yourself to that?
"If it ain't snowin, I ain't goin"
Ronnie Garvin was a stretcher back in the day.
I used to love the Garvin Stomp...
No joke for sure started watching him in 80 or 81 ICW wrestling as The One Man Gang & the One Man Gang as we know now was just breaking in & was known as Crusher Broomfield
Crockett stories are hilarious.
I love buddy, he was a unique character, him an flair had a big run in 84 buddy should have been champion!!
Of course the Crocketts were close to Flair, he was the first mid Atlantic guy to get the World title. They had known him for a decade.
The pay for him was the deal for all NWA champions and Buddy was still doing well to get 3k a week but Crockett was getting his money back for paying off the IRS
I love these guy Buddy I am in the situation of knowing people using Church as a way to get a dollar.
Flair and the gang at a club in Bossier ( across the river from Shreveport) called Stars hes with 2 blondes and a trail of Debbie's behind them. Jake the snake sitting by himself looking pissed. Hacksaw drinking out of a beer pitcher. Coke bottle glasses on. Saw Buddy in the old SMA he was comedy relief where he mouthed at the star then run. Fantastic s headlined believe it or not.
Go Vols, lots of love for buddy around here.
Had to Google who Buddy was cause I couldn't remember him.
Daum 60 grand a week in the 80s was a lot money.
RIP Buddy we miss ya...in hindsight the real nature boy..
Never
@@jameschilders7423 If Flair didn't embarrass himself so badly over the past 15 years then maybe. When you watch the same old stale boring matches his image has been badly tarnished. Only reason he held title so many times other wrestlers did not like the travel schedule.
@@vincemistretta8999 too simple. Didn't like the travel schedule and lacked the charisma and discipline to do it every night in every city. If the Tommy Rich's and Buddy Landells of the world could have done it, theybwould have.
@@vincemistretta8999, your kidding, right? Ric Flair was the GOAT. Ric was a great wrestler, but he was a super great entertainer because of his promos and his robe and car cost more than your house.
3:33
I would not have surrendered my gun not even to my Boss
I always loved the corkscrew elbow drop as a finishing move. You could just feel the impact.
The real nature boy. Great guy!
They can’t give up that bleached hair!!!!☝️🤣🤣
Robert Gibson was the best at the hot tag, and a great seller
Buddy Landell we've only just begun.=)
35 years later and i still don't get his nature boy gimmick or where JCP was going with it...
Flair: Buddy Landel i'd lend you one of my robes but I'm afraid you'll get lost in the arms 🤣🤣🤣🤣...
This was a absolute top tier talent back in the day. When he was in the Midsouth he became a top heel and I loved to hate his ass, but that was a testsment to his talent
The real nature boy Buday landell
Let’s not get crazy but yeah Buddy was great
Magnum was supposed to get the Title off Flair, until the accident changed the NWA world completely. I was never a fan of Tully; I thougth he was nothing original, just a "Ric Flair Lite" who was given his spot due to family.... like father, like daughter.. her sense of entitlement and mean Girl behaviour is just like tully
Brother..damnit he said it right the gospel aint for sell! But every where you look now these snakes are tryin to hustle ya money
This guy's great lmao
Rick Flair used everyone. Wrestler. Scott hall in his interview says it. Scott Hall said that he never could trust Rick Flair, because of it.
yes he's dead real name Adam winsor
Bill Ensor
I miss you my friend. Sleep well.
Same to you buddy
Todays wrestling sucks
The REAL NATURE BOY
Buddy

It's not how good u r... but how well u can sell it
