- The IAF's oldest serving pilot flies the force's oldest aircraft type. Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa flew a sortie in a MiG-21 in Uttarlai air force base on January 11, 2016. Heres a video i put together. Clips courtesy spokesperson IAF.

I have seen a pilot named tyagi he was playing with mig 21 in air. When i was in jamnagar. Still he is the no. 1 pilot in my eyes.

I am an American Vet, I have worked with Pakistani soldiers and airman, and I have to say they have some of the toughest, most professional men out there in the military. What i most noticed was that they harbored no ill will against anyone and were very humble. But one thing you couldnt miss; almost all of them were distrustful of us to have used and forsaken them time and again. To their credit, as a soldier I had to agree.
But even so, i have not met a people as gracious as the Pakistanis.

Also the bison may be rusty but does the job its made for. Just like you can't compare a raptor to a rafale. I agree with you it's time to upgrade, nevertheless the bison is not complete junk

Its (MiG-21, Bison) speed could not be match with other more advanced and sophisticated fighter aircraft. Its aim was fire and escaped fastly! No plane can catch it to match its supersonic speed! Russians were marvellous in their engineering!

It's quiet amazing India is still operating the Mig-21. It is a testiment to the simplicity of the 21 that IAF is still able to maintain it and keep it air worthy.
The MiG-21 is my favorite aircraft. Maybe not as fast as the Eagle but it's gonna sneak up on them enemy jets real quiet-like and put a heat seeker in their tail pipes. My neighbor is an old F-4 Phantom pilot and he said he fought one in Vietnam but it got away. I keep telling him to write a book. He had his share of close calls and narrow escapes from MiGs.

During the Cold War, India received a large share of its arsenal from the Soviets and Pakistan, the US. Nowadays that Pakistan is a “friemeny” of the US, the Yanks are giving India much more a nod if you will regarding strategic and military cooperation.
I don't trust Pakistan and I think the US as a whole is moving that way, especially after bin Laden managed to hide out there for as long as he did.
I wouldn't doubt that. I know Pakistan is one of Israel's greatest enemies and has helped other enemies like Syria, Hezbolah, ect. wage war against Israel. There was even concern that Pakistan intended in providing nuclear weapons to use against Israel. China has real close ties to Pakistan too, and is an enemy to India so that makes them a real double edge sword.
Glad to know that . Sometimes we root to a country like they are football team . We are being friendly to india because in case of conflict with china india has the man power and population to stop or slow china .

Surely the IAF will touch the sky with glory by flying modern planes. As good as MiG 21 is, clearly in 2017 it is obsolete as can be seen in the number of crashes. Very difficult to maintain ageing tanks and air crafts. Instead of struggling with LCA why don't they get advisers from Europe or US and get it over and done with so these obsolete planes can give way to modern 4+ planes. If I was running the IAF these would be the planes: LCA; Rafale, SU-30 and MiG 35. Swap Mirages, Mig 29 for the Rafale and MiG 35. For interdiction and ground support fly the Jaguar with DARIN III and SU-25 the flying tank.

Very horrible plane. Very flawed design in the fuel tank placement, if you flew more than 40 mins, the centre of gravity shift as the fuel is used up, becomes very unstable. Im surprised India is still using this old outdated planes when they can afford to built useless statues worth 3000 crores.
