i am now aware of how obsessed i have become with this machine, viewing this video 5 hours in is a first clue :)
Happy new year and keep up the VERY GOOD work!
Cheers Kev!
Thanks, you too :-)
Great video!
Thanks Gail :-)
Great video, ordered this yesterday.. thanks for the discount code!
Glad you got sorted :-)
@@Coffee_Kevis the discount code still available?
Wish I had the funds to order it today.. I would have to work all 4 of my days off to get one 😢
Really helpful, thanks. Mine seems to keep saying to make a finer grind, but by the time it is happy (around 11) the water just drips out over 24-29 seconds. To have a flow, it needs to be coarser. Is the machine just wrong on this? I've checked the water level without the portafilter in and it is coming out at about the right volume... but that volume definitely isn't making its way to the cup when pulling a shot.
Im trying to figure out how this is different than an all manual machine. Is the expresso dilution and the milk frothing texture different for every drink? The barista needs to add the appropriate amount of milk here so I'm trying to figure out if the touch screen is worth it vs an all manual machine.
Have you tried steaming and frothing your milk while grinding your coffee?
Hey Kev and thanks for all your video guides/reviews 🙂I have the Touch Impress and i was wondering if you can help me with a problem. If i grind my beans at size 18, the machine says its too slow. If i change it to 19 it says too fast.
What are the noise levels when grinding? Could you tell me in decibels? Do you think it is annoying at 7:00 in the morning? Thank you for the content!
Hello, thank you for the great and helpful video. I do have a question - can you use a different coffee than from the grinder, for example a decaf? As my wife enjoys her decaf from time to time I need to figure out how this wont be only my coffee machine 😉
There’s no reason you can’t put pre ground decaf into the portafilter, tamp it and then make a coffee.
Hi, should there be a preset for an Americano?
Great video! I’ll be saving this one for reference. Q: What is the logic behind the order of steaming milk vs. pulling the shot? I noticed you are steaming the milk first, for the latte and the flat white. Is this so that the foam will dissipate a little while the shot is brewing?
P.S. That hot chocolate scene is perfection! Love it.
Thanks 😎. Yeah you can queue it up either way, to pull the shot when the milk is steamed or vice versa. I'd encourage people to try both and find out what they prefer, in theory milk first then espresso makes the most sense because you can be wiping the wand and knocking/polishing the milk in the jug while the shot is pulling, and then you're ready to add the milk as soon as the shot pulls.
Haha, thanks, we had fun with that! Ta, Kev
Well I just made my first latte with my brand new Bambino Plus, which with my Kev code cost around 254 and only took 2 days to arrive. I could taste the difference straight away and with a bit more xp should be able to make pretty milk. The auto milk is a fantastic feature. It just worked. Thanks Kev.
I couldn’t find the code! 🤔
I’ve been thinking about the bambino. Ty for input!
Hi kev. Does your chocolate brownie coffee beans have any cows milk in its ingredients.
Nah, none of our coffee contains anything but coffee, these are simply flavour notes. Ta.
Can you buy a second hopper, fill if with decaf beans and switch them out for that afternoon cup? I know it might have a few caffeinated beans but a very weak caffeine split shot
I would recommend that you don't fill the hopper, only put the amount of beans that you require for your coffee, that way when you want a decaf you don't need a different hopper, please see my video th-cam.com/video/ctGVBWqpnY4/w-d-xo.html
Ta :-)
What basket do you use for the cafe crema? My parents have this machine and want to use it with grocery store beans (lavazza for example).. I know this isn't ideal but yea.. The machine advises the dual wall basket. Do you agree? And if so which size basket
i have the Barista Impress (the version of this without the touch screen). When i've run out of my regular beans and i've been forced to buy from the supermarket (sometimes Lavazza, sometimes others) i use the non pressurised basket as i would do with the regular, small batch roasted beans. I still get a crema, coffee is still decent (in fact the machine makes rubbish beans taste ok). it's obviously not as good as decent beans, but it isn't bad. I've never used the pressurised portafilter.
So we have the Barista Touch Impress and have started to make our favourite coffee. We dialled in the new machine and put in fresh beans but were disappointed by the size (quantity) of the drink. If I want a short drink I would go for an Espresso. In particular, the Cafe Crema despite adjusting for a fuller cup. I love the Coffee Crema. Why can't we get the same size drink as we would get in one of the coffee shops in town ? Is there something we are missing ? Thank you.
This machine uses traditional sizes for espresso drinks, just like you’d find in the very best independent coffee shops around the world. The big chains like Starbucks/Costa/Nero use their own sizes, which are always larger.
Awesome video. I have bought this machine based on your recommendation and its awesome.
Lately I'm getting frothy crema from the espresso extraction. Any advice? Cheers
Your videos are very good .. my only issue is the Touch Impress adds maybe $100-$150 worth of benefit over its prior Barista Touch version. I started with the $1,000 Barista Touch and for what it is still to this day offers good value, but I'd even like to see more.
Again the Impress needs a 58mm portafilter and smart appliance connectivity (it's 2024) and better programming. The Gaggiuino mod proved $150 can make a world a difference!
Thanks :-). The value of the differences between the touch impress and the standard touch I think depends on the user, for who it's designed for I think the touch impress is a way better option than the regular touch. I think the point of the touch is that it's supposed to be the solution for the kind of person who wants fully auto machine convenience and home barista cup quality, the touch doesn't quite do that for this kind of user as there's no assistance on the espresso side of things, only milk.
I don't quite agree re 58mm, actually there's argument that a the deeper puck the 54mm creates is more forgiving for home users, personally I don't think portafilter size makes a massive amount of difference, to most users, other than available accessories, and there are tonnes of 54mm accessories these days.
Re smart connectivity, yeah I'm surprised we've not seen more along these lines yet, I reckon it's probably coming though.
Ta, Kev.
@@Coffee_Kev .. Avoiding being redundant for my prior reply, the $500 would be fine if it had a WDT. When I purchased the Touch during COVID-19 there weren't that many accessories fitting that oddball sized portafilter. A WDT and a calibrated Tamper will get you a long way plus even a mediocre scale. I would easily imagine that if you don't have the grind size correct on either the Impress or the standard Touch, it wouldn't make any difference at all you'd either have nothing coming out or sludge until it's dialed in. Also as you're well aware the same exact coffee bean from peak to a week old requires slight changes to the grind size that neither unit will account for short of putting some silly double walled basket.
The only solution is volumetric and weight integration. Even a fully computerized espresso machine would have to go through multiple runs to dial it in correctly and even then...
So if by easy meaning pushing the button and brown stuff coming out then okie dokie. Reality check anyone spending $1,000 on an espresso machine typically is not some dribbling idiot who has a hard time riding a bicycle or walking in a straight line. Instead, most of them are reasonably intelligent people who are very interested in their own espresso and with rare exceptions, won't take the initiative to improve their espresso experience. The biggest advantage to both of these units are the automatic hot milk add-on. I've had parties at my house and I cannot tell you how extremely rare it is that somebody wants an espresso or cappuccino or latte or whatever. So I've never had a line of people begging me for coffee even when I've had nearly 100 people in my home. I guess if all I knew were espresso loving addicts then I'm pretty certain I wouldn't have a Breville in the first place...
👏👏👏👏
Hi when i buy a latte's I always ask for one shot of coffee. Can I replicate this with this coffee machine.
Yeah just split a double shot and give the other half to a friend. 😆 Only joking, yes you can just use the single shot basket. Ta, Kev.
Can you share the settings for caffe creme? In the us we don't have that recipe.
As far as I can work out it’s just the grind size set to 20 and a double shot. Effectively increases the water to coffee ratio.
You like marshmallow then 😂
Interesting you got to a grind size of 8 with those beans as I settled around the 9 mark for the same beans so the guidance is pretty consistent across machines which is good. It’s odd that long black is the only drink that automatically does both parts of the drink with a single press whereas all the others you have to select both components. I think it highlights this is a version 1 product really with minor little niggles such as not being able to save individual bean settings which is handy when you get a regular selection of beans (such as yours 🙂) or modify the default settings for drinks. It's a pity it doesn't look like there is any way for the code to be updated either as that would be an ideal solution -- put out a 1.1 version!
What is that little mat you have on the drip tray? Really wish I had one before I started using mine as the cover scratches soooo easily!
The milk texture doesn't look so great...some big bubbles...can you manually steam you own milk for more control?
Good thing you have fantastic taste of music Mate, or I’ll say something differently 🤪
After my De'Longhi bean-to-cup machine finally went to the big, er, coffee ground knock box in the sky - and, long story short, a brief relationship with a lamentable Melitta machine threatened my sanity - a sniff around various reviews then bumping into your ringing endorsement of this machine I took the plunge.
All good, so far, but are you ready for a particularly dim question?! ...
Flat white ... latte ... cappuccino ... I've never had to really worry myself about the distinction before, so I watch this video with my tenters on hooks. What am I missing? I mean, aside from putting them in different cups/glasses, uh, the finished article all looked pretty identical to me!! 🤪
Pray tell. What am I missing? Besides an education.
If you love hot chocolate ditch the powder and get the Sephra proper hot chocolate or similar chocolate flakes. Worth the additional cost.
ive heard its pretty overly sweet, whats ur take
It’s sweeter than normal chocolate flakes and probably tastes about 1/2 teaspoon of sugar difference per cup.
I've bought some, keep an eye on my shorts. 👍 Ta, Kev
Asking the obvious question for a newb like me - how is the impress any good when it’s (probably?) using the same sub-par tamper mechanics that everyone replaces with the Brevilles…. even tho it is built in, and there is NO wdt, leveling or distribution going on? If all this is so critical, how are these machines doing the job?
It has a dosing sensor and the puck impress system, which Breville developed, and it's very different from any other integrated tamp lever machine I've seen.
Re no levelling etc., yeah that's true. It centrally doses the basket, and delivers a very level tamp, so it does this as well as it can in fully assisted.
If you want to add a WDT step you can just use a dosing funnel, or just tamp it slightly, remove, WDT, tamp again with the lever. I experimented with the difference between fully assisted and with WDT in this video: th-cam.com/video/CJx6jEq887g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=W5dEOaT6J0prvW4R in my opinion, there's usually a slight difference visually when doing it with a bottomless portafilter, so adding the WDT step is probably slightly beneficial, but I think you'd have to have an amazing palate to actually taste the difference. Ta, Kev.
Hello Kev & community, I know my following question will sound super weird, but... what about making tea? Can TBTI warm water for different max temperature levels (for different kind of leaves)? Did anybody try that?
Tea? GET OUT! 😄 Just kidding, I love tea. In theory, yes. In practise, watch this space, I'm waiting to hear from Sage, as the one I have doesn't seem to reach the kind of hot water temperature that I think it's supposed to, and I'm trying to find out if it's a fault with this model, as the one I have is one of the first production models they produced. Ta
I thought the same. When I make a long black its not very hot and I can't suss how to increase the temperature of the water spout. I have not tried tea yet but I will today and update you.
Update. Hi, on the sage I preheated the mug and ran the water onto a teabag (Yorkshire of course!) Measuring the temp. It was 69° when full. Note I had to push the icon to stop the water. I then boiled a kettle and filled a cold mug to replicate a usual brew. The water temp was 84° in the mug. A 15° difference. The sage tea was drinkable but was like I'd left it for 10mins before starting. I think this is too cool and if you like milk in your long coffee then it is very cool. Hope this helps you both. Please let me know in sage tell you how to increase the temperature.
@@michaelclarke3333 cheers Michael, yeah that temperature doesn't sound right for tea, I'm trying to find out more from Sage, I'll update you 👍
@@Coffee_Kev Ive also raised a ticket with sage. still at the 'give us all your details stage' for third time....
I was under the impression that you adjusted grind size with the grinder running. Great video though. Happy New Year, Kev.
Thanks 🙂. With many grinders yeah, doesn't matter with the Sage machines, though, you can adjust when they're not grinding. Happy New Year to you too 😃
@Coffee_Kev ..That's good to know as I have a Barista Express Impress.
I live in the US and have the Breville version. It’s interesting to see that the Sage has some different preset drinks. For example, I don’t have a cafe crema option.
