This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.
Hahaha yeah, I didn't soak the water filter long enough. Took it out and flushed it without it as you said, and it worked! Thank you, no one else suggested this as an issue!
i owned a SGP and Bambino Plus machines, started my coffee journey with specialty beans, later ventured into my own roasting. Over the past 2 years, I customized my own blends and find the best blends for my own taste. This is the most fun part of having your own roaster machine.
Hi Kev and everyone, love the videos, they're super helpful! I bought the Sage Dual Boiler a little over 2 months ago. It's great, however I get super inconsistent shots, almost every time I go to use it. Same grind size, same water temp using filtered water, same coffee (fresh, roasted within the last 2 weeks), same dose, same everything. Back to back shots, I'd get 18g in 36 out in 25 seconds, 28, 30, 33. For this particular coffee I dialed in at 18g in 36 out in 27 seconds. Programmed the shot timer but get a different result every time. I can't work it out, even the pressure gauge seems consistent. I'm pretty confident that my work flow is correct as well. I own a Varia VS3 grinder and Normcore tools including the bottomless portafilter and spring loaded tamper, wdt tool. My work flow doesn't change, it's the same for each and every shot, which is why I'm confused as to what is going wrong! Has anyone had this issue? If so, please help! Thank you!
Once again, Kev, you nailed it. So well explained & easy to understand as usual. Since my wife & I have sampled your coffees I have become an even greater fan. Thank you for guiding me through the minefield of good coffee & good espresso making. All the best.
Thanks so much for this. Came upon this while looking for a solution to my Breville randomly stopping giving shots except for a couple of sad drips. We've tried buying new cups, descaling and thoroughly cleaning the dispense. Long story short I've just now changed the grind level on my grinder (it was turned all the way down to Turkish 🤦🏽♂️) and we'll see how it goes. That solution makes sense as the Machine itself is in proper working order. Thanks again bruv!
Our Sage batista m/c no longer get the pressure into the 'expresso' zone. Tried changing grind from fine to coarse...best results with coarse grind. Have cleaned m/c. Thanks
just picked up a sage duo temp pro about a month ago after my old delonghi dedica blew up and i have to say im really impressed with sage its my go to brand for coffee machines/accessories i love the sage duo temp pro its a fantastic machine i have it paired with a sage dose control pro and it is a fantastic combo it makes really good coffee sage is a great brand definitely wont be going back to delonghi
I have a Sage Duo Temp Pro. It is 5 years old. It started to leak and particularly on the steamer low pressure and volume. Sage offer a £199 charge or 20% off a new machine at rrp. There are service centres who might charge less. Posting is from £19 (if insured). I did look inside, what can be unscrewed but some panels don't shift and I did not want to use plastic breaking force. I assume some plastic pipe has likely to have cracked. As pump and heating is all fine it ought not to be a £199 particularly when that charge included new grinder blades (?) and descaling (I use filtered water so no lime scales).
Hi Gerald, this won't be that Sage are offering to charge you this, it's their out-of-warranty support partner. If you can find a local espresso engineer to take it to, you'll probably find it doesn't cost that much to fix. This is the guy I take My sage machines to for repair & maintenance etc. espressorepairshop.co.uk. Cheers, Kev.
I am looking for a replacement but find it hard to decide. Some of the more expensive and better built models also require a longer process and cleaning. The Sage machines are more user friendly and i have a decent voucher to reduce the cost. Instead of going for a machine costing £400 more a better grinder than my Sage smart grinder pro might make more sense. Profitec Pro 400 £1149 Sage the Dual Boiler £874.30 (30% voucher) Profitec Go £769 Gaggia Classic Pro Espresso £429 Sage the Duo Temp Pro £279.98 (30% voucher)
Hi Kev, I did the recommended hack on my Gaggia MD15 & made 2 shims out of a carton tea box. it's working very well & I'm getting very fine ground coffee. Thanks a lot. 🙏👌
You lightly touch on the volumetric buttons. I’ll just go ahead and say that it’s better to pull shots manually. There’s too many variables for a programmed volumetric shot and you may not get the result you’re expecting. Manual shots using a shot timer(like on the Pro) along with scales helps me diagnose problems with my puck prep quickly. I also like the pre-infusion control aspect of manual (8 seconds for me).
Couldn't agree more with this. I got a Barista Express Impress at the start of December because I didn't want a new hobby and really wanted that assisted experience, however after one of Kev's other videos I realised I was getting 1:3.5 ratio consistently and didn't seem to be able to permanently change the programmed volume. I've since bought a Timemore scale and now pull manual shots with ratio relevant to beans in use. So much for no new hobby! 😂
I've got Barista Express Impress and I increased my volume by about 30% now I have just over a 1:2 ratio in about 27-second shot time. It's easy to change the volume permanently, have a look at the Breville instructions.@@StephenRandall
Here's one: Inconsistent shot volumes! After calibrating the machine to dispense as many grams of espresso as I want and saving it, over the course of a few days, it seems to gradually lose its memory and revert to the full default shot volume. Puck prep involves WDT and calibrated tamping with the same beans so I doubt that's contributing to the issue. This is a Bambino plus I'm using.
I get similar with Barista Express Impress. With the same batch of beans and no changes to grind settings I get anywhere from 17g-19g in, and usually 52-58g out. I've since bought a set of scales and pull shots in manual mode which gives much better consistency.
@@StephenRandall I agree, manual mode works well. But I thought the machine was supposed to save your shot volume settings after setting them the first time and so was wondering if this is isolated to my unit.
@@Reapvr definitely the same on the Express Impress. In fact, I've cleared the volume control, pulled manual @ 45g, then pulled auto and it came out at 58g!
@@StephenRandall This problem has been driving me crazy! It only gets 2 bars on auto, and then the manual dose is just a start-stop function and doesn't seem to stop on its own?!
🙄🙄Thanks, Kev, only a week ago I started using manual shott window and it has made a big difference with my Bambino Plus, when I first watched your The Fundamentals of Dialing in. it looked like you are just pushing the button and using the automatic shott window. Number 5 would have been useful then. You owe me a large bag of coffee 😂
haha, sorry Edmund. I'm actually going to re-do this video, I think I can do this a lot more justice now I've worked out how to explain some of this stuff better.
@Coffee Kev You're doing a great job 👏 I watch a lot of your videos. After I have screwed up more than a few times with ok beens, I am ready to move on to more expensive ones😅 I am about to try some of yours 😁
Hi there, thank you for exhaling the bean hardiness issue. I have a problem I wonder if you have encountered before, my breville brews fine, maybe a bit low in pressure, bit then after the brew goes into an awful electric sounding buzz. 🤔
My oracle lost all of its shot volume settings the other day. I pressed the double shot button and the shot never finished. I had to manually stop it… never had an issue in the 2 years prior.
before making grind more coarse just try to tamp very lightly. meanwhile note the non entry machine to his left. i had a breville with built in grinder but gave it up because could not grind fine enough for some beans. a very low end grinder in it.
I've just got mine back after it being sent for repair but it's still got the same issue. When using the steam wand the steam comes from behind the drip tray. Issue began after 60 days pulling maybe 2-3 shots per day on average. Apparently it needed descaled. We live in Scotland in a soft water area so not surprisingly descaling did nothing. First use after being returned its exactly the same if not worse.
Thanks, Kev. I have an SGP and a Bambino Plus and I love the espresso they make, especially with your Chocolate Brownie blend beans. I'm still getting good shots from the bag with the 21/11/22 roasting date too! (but a new bag has arrived now, so I'll move onto that one.) Lots of compliments from the coffee-drinkers in the family. Cheers!
Hi Tim, I have the same setup as you and struggled with the chocolate browine blend to achieve 1-2 ratio without flowing too fast. Could you please advise what grind setting, dose etc you were using?
@@karltibbetts52 Hiya. Internal burr at factory setting (6) , external set to 1. 18 seconds gets me 18gr in the portafilter (bottomless with an IMS)basket and 36gr out in around 24 seconds. Shots are fine. I am going to try the internal at 4 with my new bag of Kev's beans and try and dial back the external from 1 to maybe 3.
Thanks for the insight Tim. I have been wondering about changing the internal burr setting but some reviews say you shouldn't need to change this until the burrs start to wear. I only had my setup in December. I've ordered some of Kev's fruit cake blend so I'll see how I go with that 👍🏼
Hi Karl, re changing internal burr setting - video coming soon, but basically there's no benefit of changing it any finer than 5 (from factory pre-set 6) internally. Setting it to 5 if your burrs are relatively new will just give you the ability to go slightly finer, it's as if the grinder has a little bit more in the bag that is hidden by being set at 6, but going beyond that doesn't achieve anything as I'll explain in more detail (and demonstrate) in the upcoming video. Ta, Kev.
Hello just bought the Breville Espresso Impress for some reason the auto dose button for grinder won’t do automatic I have to hold it for it to grind, I see in videos that it us just touched and grinds and stops by itself. Thank you
I had to make my sage as coarse as setting 22 to get a shot out, anything below 20 amd I wasn't getting any coffee coming out of my express impress sage
I have a problem with my Sage Grinder Pro is over filling the portafilter. It was fine up to the point were I started to fill a jar with several grinds. When I went back to using just grinding direct to the portafilter it now over fills (double the amount). The setting have been the same in each case - 19.0 grind amount/time 2 shots 6 size.
Hi really helpful videos. The problem i have is the dial knob has become so stiff i cant turn it - particularly to steam the milk. Ive tried descaling but this makes no difference. Is it possible to take the machine apart to oil it? Thanks 😊
I’m having a weird issue when it comes to dialling in. I ended up with two lots of beans at the same time so I used some to try (Baytown bends and caravan daily) and then froze the rest in vacuum sealed bags. The unfrozen ones went fine, dialled pretty easily. When I’ve come to use the frozen version, it all goes wrong! Last week I tried the caravan ones, today I’ve tried the Baytown ones. Initially (on about a 14 on my impress), I got 24g out on the first go, so I went coarser and then I got a very thin ‘drippy’ stream which then eventually stopped and was way less than 24g. Last week, the first espresso came out fine, but the second and third followed the same pattern as todays. I gave up and tried the next morning and it was fine save a bit of adjusting you’d expect. I’ve no idea what the issue is, it seems like my machine just doesn’t like frozen beans, but it acts in the way I’d least expect! Have you any ideas what I’m doing wrong please?
when you say "frozen beans" you mean they were frozen, you then let them thaw and you're now using them and keeping them out of the freezer, or do you mean you're taking them out of the freezer, using them and then putting them back in? Ta, Kev.
The former - I ended up with a lot of coffee in a short space of time, so I split them into individual 100-112g bags and froze them all. The first time it had happened, the beans were straight from the freezer. Have tried it this morning with a pack id taken out of the freezer last night so had defrosted! This morning, the first espresso came out fine but second/third immediately after were rubbish. Took 50 seconds to get to 28g out on the third! Same grind size (happy to change it, but I don’t think that’s the initial issue)
Great video Kev. Thanks. My issue with the barrista express: In order to get 1:2 ratio in around 20-25 seconds (from first drop in cup) I need around 19gr very finely ground coffee in my portafilter. 19gr is the very maximum to maintain sufficient clearance above the puck. My grind setting is so fine that I'm constantly bordering on choking the machine. Finer grind with less coffee just chokes the machine. My pressure gauge is always at the very max of the "espresso range" as sage calls it - if not beyond. Makes a decent cuppa (I always drink as americano) but just wondering if I'm doing it all wrong?
Hi , thanks for this. I have a 2 year old Sage Barista Pro... It took me a while to set up....find the coffee beans we were happy with. I haven't changed any of the settings since. All of a sudden, there is not enough coffee being ground and dispensed . I have stripped it down and cleaned it, but still the same. 19 seconds of grinding doesn't provide what 15 secs did a couple of weeks ago... Plus the taste is bitter, not pleasant. I cannot understand what has changed.....same set up, same coffee.... Different outcome... Help?
Have to disagree there Kev. I'm an entry level kinda guy, Lelit Fred grinder and Sage Bambino machine. Vst shower screen and basket. Ive put every bean from every country available through them and always had positive results. Do I quite reach the profiles of a pro setup, no. But I do get a fantastic cup I enjoy to the fullest and save a couple of Gs in the process!
Good stuff Nigel! I'm not saying no one can get good results with slightly lighter roasted single origins, for example, with an entry level setup. Some home baristas may well have the chops to pull of great shots with less forgiving beans via more entry level setups, but it's harder, so a lot of people will find it easier to get decent tasting shots by using more forgiving beans. Ta, Kev.
@Coffee Kev Thankyou for the reply. I retract my initial statement and apologise. I completely agree with what you're saying there. There certainly are easier ways! Would love to know your thoughts on outdoor/camping espresso. Is the 9barista the king? Maybe the Bellman series? Or does a simple moka pot still reign supreme?
@@carpNcoffee No apology required 😀, you weren't wrong, I think maybe I just stated that point in a way that made it appear I was saying that entry level setups can't deal with anything but espresso blends, that's not what I was meaning to say. Ah yes, decent espresso is a must while carp fishing! ;-). I used to fish, but coarse fishing, I wouldn't have had the patience for carp fishing - except floating crust, caught a few nice carp that way, and they were all "THIS BIG!!!", hehe. I think it just depends on the user, there's a growing number of manual options now and there are pros and cons for each. Ta Kev
Hey Kev, love the video. Hoping I can pick your brain and help me. I just bought my first ever espresso machine which was the sage barista touch. Having a bit of trouble extracting the perfect shot. The first drip starts around 4 seconds in instead of the recommended 8-12 seconds and tastes very wishy washy. I have made my grind finer going all the way to 6, however it is still starting to drip at around 4-5 seconds but now hardly any coffee is coming out and it taste very acidic. Any advise you could give me would be appreciated. I have also added more coffee to see if that will correct the issue but it will still drip at around 4-5 seconds
My husband just purchased a SAGE Barista Express Impress and has it on automatic grind but whenever I touch the button to grind the beans it doesn’t work! My husband will do it straight after and lo and behold it works for him! Can you help please or has my husband jinxed it so I can’t use it? Thank you.
I had this problem to at first so I tested using the pressure basket and the pressure went up so it at least meant my machine was working. So I ended up using a finer grind . Atm I’m using a supermarket brand and my pressure is still low, it’s in the finest grind setting so I’m assuming it’s cause the beans are old ( it doesn’t state the roast date on the bag)
@@karenrogers9034Omg that happened to me too last month !! I was making coffee and it grinded well for the first round of grind then I realised ' I think I need more coffee grounds ' so I clicked it again for the second round of grind and the grinder stopped working , I took out all of the beans and cleaned the grinder - still nothing . Brought it in for repair and the mechanics on site checked it and couldn't really repair it so since it was under warranty , I got a new one . Did you bring yours in ? If it is under warranty , u might get a new one too .
Hello, so my Breville barista express isn’t expressing out any coffee problem #1, we have gone as course as we can and it goes high pressure but nothing comes out. We have looked at the water hoses inside and they also are clear.
We are also having a similar problem. Some water is coming out but nowhere near a full shot and when we try without coffee the basket is full of water that won't drain out unless you tilt it this way and that. Any ideas?? We have the Bambino plus
Would you say the Eureka Mignion, mainly the Manuale might struggle with a light, denser bean?? Was thinking of trying some of your lighter roasts beans you have on the website..
Yeah I'd say the entry level Mignons may struggle a bit with lighter roasts, the higher level versions with the slightly bigger burrs (specialita for example) will probably do better, although there may be some beans that these don't quite have the grunt to deal with properly. Ta, Kev.
What to do if machine is simply not working something like that #1 case but the water won’t come out even if you don’t put the basket with coffee grounds inside. You can hear the noise, as usual when it was working, but the water is only going to waste water container. I don’t think changing coffee grounds would be any help in this case. The pressure is not moving at all.
My entry level Breville (click to L for extraction, click R for steam, no grinder) works well but sometimes the shot fizzes on exit and produces too much froth. I use the same purchased pre-ground coffee all the time and I always make it the same way.The only variable I can think of is how the coffee sits when put in the bowl-thing that is clicked in to the machine. Is it caused by tamping too hard or not enough, or maybe tiny air holes in the deposited ground beans before tamping? Or something else?
I was given a selection of Rave Coffee beans recently and after watching this video, I'm wondering if they're not the best option for my Sage Bambino. I'm currently using Rave BRAZIL FAZENDA CAMPESTRE Nº 109. It's a single origin, is this not a good option for the Bambino? I'm very much a beginner, and I'm still finding my way.
I've not tried this coffee, but it's a medium roast single origin, so speaking very generally, I'd say you'd possibly find it easier (as a beginner, using an entry level machine) to get good results using an espresso blend, something a little bit darker roasted (it doesn't have to be super dark). Cheers, Kev
What if you happen to descale early with out realiseing and was meant to do a back flush and I've run 3 lots of fresh water thro now my coffee tastes weird have i broke my machine or should change filter aswell ?
Hi thank you for this information, but my problem was not addressed. Regardless of whether I use the single or double or steamer, the machine shut down after only 5 seconds. Any idea of what I can do to resolve this problem?
Hi, thank you for good video. My problem is that, the mashine not stoping during making expresso, it fill up all glass with water and I have to stop manually. It not happend all the time but very often. I have Sage the Barista Express. This is a software issue or computer get mousture? thanks for any advice
Is there a reason why the steam wand on a sage oracle produces inconsistent textured milk? Sometimes it's perfect but often it's just hot milk. I clean it. I unclog it. The milk is fresh. The milk is cold. Settings are the same: 63 temp and one level below the middle. But the texture is varied. Please help.
Hi Kev Awesome video! I have been repairing an old Breville Oracle BES980XL over the past month. I have scoured the internet for answers but cannot find a solution to my problem anywhere, Maybe you could help? Everything works well on my machine - BUT when the machine heats up to temperature, steam is coming out of the water tank/container valve :/ The water in the water tank actually boiled and the spring loaded valve in the water container has actually melted. I have taken apart both the steam solenoid and the hot water solenoid and couldn't find any obvious signs why they shouldn't work. I've also tried adjusting both Over Pressure Valves. Would you have any advice or tips on how i can stop the steam returning to the water tank? Many thanks.
I can't get the correct ratio as regards to the pressure dial I believe it should be in the 12oclock position while extraction..but it seems to Go past this almost to the end.. I've tried grind ratio up and down but can't seem to get back to 12oclock position.. any help much appreciated
My barista pro is paired up with a eureka Libra grinder. It has been making great espresso. I made four double shots this morning for Christmas breakfast and they were great. Tried to make one 2 hours later and it’s like my machine is being choked. Like the grind size is too small but nothing has been changed for months? Any thoughts
This is the NEWer disc for the Barista Pro. If you call Breville or Sage you’ll get this information. Those who are saying buy a disc without a hole should perhaps phone the manufacturer. The older disc without the hole apparently caused problems with the Barista Pro. If you run the Flush without the tray grid you’ll see that some of the water does back flush through the machine. Tested: Stock Portafilter (PF) - which I only use for Back-flushing (on the display called Flush), I use a Normcore bottomless for making espresso. Stock 1 cup dual walled basket. The disc that now comes with the Barista Pro, the one with the hole. One Cafiza tablet. Total liquid 450ml Via the PF 300ml Back-flush into the tray 150ml
Hey Kev, do I still need a water filter if I add filtered water to the tank? Also I think I've choked my bambino plus with too finer grind size. Any tips on fixing a fixing a machine that wont pull water through, even with an empty basket?
Just got a breville express impress i have zero success with getting a good shot out of- I had old beans to start - but now I have new beans - what grind setting would you recommend- they are medium roast mixed blend. I tried them this morning changing the dial (I can’t remember) and burr (3) because I was using fresh beans and zero espresso came out? What numbers would you recommend to try tomorrow? Thanks so much… having a hell of a time figuring out how to pull a nice shot

Hi Kev, I'm using an Express impress, had it for a few months now and it's started a start up prime issue, loud buzz continues for around 30 seconds and water level drops in tank to drip tray and unable to turn off. When machine primed all OK, start up soon after is OK but when left til next morning issue returns. I have removed filter to aid flow, no change. HELP!
Hi Kev. I’ve been using my Barista Express since Nov ‘23 and last week,my machine’s pressure bar suddenly stopped going up. I tried descaling but it didn’t work. Can you help me,please? It’s driving me crazy
I got a Solis Pro 115a Grind and infuse ( AKA Sage Barista Express) i got it for 4 a 5 years. (just before they had their name chance) but at some point it as i plug the machine into the socket, it gives a power failure to my house. is this common to half espresso machines after they get their ''age'' ? or should sage last a little longer then 4 years? thanks!
I have a sage duo temp pro. I’ve been using the same coffee grind and same grind settings on my sage smart grinder pro, but recently I’m only getting three quarters of a double espresso shot. Any advice please? I took the grinder apart and gave it a good clean but the problem persists. Thanks Adam
I am having trouble with variable steam power from the wand on a Sage Barista Pro. This leads to variable texture microfoam which can sometimes be poorly integrated and requires lots of grooming. I have been regularly descaling. Anyone else have this problem?
I took part my breville to clean it and after reassembling, and now the grind setting shifts during the grind due to the machine’s vibration. The screw holding down the grind setting is as tight as possible. Any tips?
I'd try removing the hopper, cleaning, removing the top burr, vacuuming, and then backing off the grind setting with the thumb wheel before replacing the top burr and making sure it clicks into place ( the final millimetre ). I had the same problem, and I watched a video on altering the inner burr setting, and I saw that the top burr actually clicked into place. My grinder then worked great. There is also backlash in the grinders, so if you want to grind one setting coarser, it's best to go coarser three notches and then back down two. Like if you were on a lathe with backlash, always alter the setting from the same direction going finer. Cheers ☕ George
Hi Kev, new sub here 👋 and new to the Saga dual boiler. You have some great content which has helped. However much I try, my shots don't produce any crema, what would you suggest to fix this? I'm using a med/dark freshly ground bean. 18g in 36g out at 27secs, pid set at 34 degrees. TIA
Hello Kev, just acquired a refurb Sage Bambino and when frother's going, the machine does a pretty loud pulsing sound, like, "Vromm..Vromm..Vromm..Vromm" about 1 second apart. Is that normal for this machine? Am in the process of looking into it, so sorry if it's a bit of a divvy question.
The reason most people drink milkies is that we don’t like the taste of straight espresso. It doesn’t really have chocolate, caramel, etc. notes. Once you add milk and sweeteners subtle changes in extractions, sourness, bitterness, etc. go by the wayside.
I have a new Breville Express Impress machine, and have experienced several problems. But the most irritating and mystifying is that I cannot get an automatic dose. No matter what I try, and yes, I did turn the dose to automatic, I have to keep my finger on the dose button, guessing how long to grind the beans. Any suggestions?
Have you ever had Error 05 on Breville Barista? I have tried plug it in off for a while and plug it again and didn't work. Pushing the milk sensor, milk steam, and nothing. Anything you can recomment? Breville charges a huge amount for service and I need to pay for shipping
That is exactly how my machine sounds and have gone through removed and cleaned both upper and lower burrs put back together and still makes that sound.
@@lamontclabaugh7140 Doh! Are you using a light roast by any chance? If not, try also removing the lower burr and the impeller, a slightly deeper clean, see: th-cam.com/users/shortsFRvsUzXlCGg?si=3eeLJMtj90e1fArP and just keep in mind that there's another washer I didn't mention in this short, which is around the shaft at the bottom inside the felt, it's a bit of a pain to remove, doesn't really need removing, just make sure you don't hoover it up ;-). Fingers crossed this works.
I do use a light roast and unfortunately I feel this machine is done for. Tried everything and even breville wants me to send the machine into them to have fixed. Unfortunately had this one a year and half so no more warranty and its going to cost me more money. Pry last one I will buy. @@Coffee_Kev
Hi Kev, my sage touch impress has suddenly started making much larger shots, i usually make a double shot, which would usually make around 50ml of espresso, maybe a bit less, but today they have been coming out at around 85-90ml it doesn't seem to taste too bad, i don't usually drink straight espresso i make latte's but is this an indicator of an issue ? And is there anyway to get it back to normal quantity ?
Hi Kev, I have a barista express that has been cleaned and stored for 6 months. When trying to use it again the machine makes a loud noise when turning on and when trying to pour water nothing is coning through it just makes that loud noise. Took filter out but still the same. Opened up back and cleaned pipes but nothing. Any ideas what to do next? Thanks
Hi Lucy, first thought would be hardened filter, but if you've tried without the filter that rules that out, next would be is the water tank defo seated properly? But I'm guessing you'll have double checked that. So if you have you'll probably need to get onto support if it's in warranty, or find an engineer to look at it for you if it's not. If you're in the UK speak to Radu, he repairs sage machines: espressorepairshop.co.uk/
I was about to buy a Sage Barista pro this week, but a Google of this machine comes up with lots of people who find no matter what they do the espresso is inconsistent. Is the Sage Barista pro not very good?
Google any machine that has sold the number of units the Barista pro has had, and you'll find loads of people who've had issues. When it comes to inconsistent espresso, this could be various things, a big one is not doing a proper pre-heating flush (turbo flush is great for this, doing the flush with the dual walled basket in, which mimics pulling a shot, pre-heats at full shot temp). Another one on the Barista Pro in particular is not purging in between shots when you've adjusted the grind, or not purging before the first shot of the day. Also, espresso is a pain, inconsistency from shot to shot is, to a certain degree, part & parcel of espresso. Cheers, Kev
How about the silicon gasket seal bursting and spewing hot coffee and grind everywhere.. i have been through 8 seals and every coffee we make you stand just bracing yourself for the burst. They don’t actually rip, they just blow out the shower screen. After 5 emails and 3 calls to Sage, i’m still waiting on them to get back to me. Barista Express.
Hi Mac, your machine needs to be returned, I would recommend phoning rather than emailing, also if you click on the face on the right hand side of their website this should connect you to someone who should help you.
Morning Kev, i have a sage impress. Is it normal to continually having to set the shot time, im dialling in pretty good and set the shot time but as soon as I go to pull another shot im shooting different ratios. Using your italian blend
Hi Kev. Using Barista pro. Seem to be getting issues with second shots. Machine is dialled in and first shot pulls 2:1 ratio in about 32 secs. Second shot then can take 50-6- secs. I like a 4 shot flat white so this is frustrating. Follow regular flush and descale programs. Any ideas on causes? Sage helpfully suggested I try a coarser grind having clearly not read my email. 🙄. Thanks, Tim
I have exactly the same problem and have reported it to Breville multiple times and they consistently say that this is not a known problem, even though there are plenty of comments like this on the internet. So frustrating that they can't acknowledge this issue and provide a real fix. I have a hard time recommending this machine to others. The first shot is always great, but second shots are always problematic.
Hi Kev. I'm using Breville Barista Max and having problems with choking. I've tried numerous espresso beans in the grinder, ranging from supermarket to freshly roasted beans and each time I have to grind at a setting between 22-26 otherwise the machine chokes. Any ideas?
Hey Kev after many years my machine now leaks from the bottom, I'd like to fix it (or pay someone) but unsure where to take it. Any recommendations ? Machine is the sage barista express. Will be going for the dual boiler next :)
Able to pull a single shot but then when want to pull another shot for another person in the house it does not pull correctly. Always too high… cleaned and descaled still doesn’t change the 2nd pull

Glad you got sorted Keegan :-)
Cheers
Kev
I had loss in steam pressure yesterday on my Bambino. Unscrewed the tip and cleaned that out. Pressure is back to like new
Well done :-)
i owned a SGP and Bambino Plus machines, started my coffee journey with specialty beans, later ventured into my own roasting. Over the past 2 years, I customized my own blends and find the best blends for my own taste. This is the most fun part of having your own roaster machine.
Excited for another video
Thank you!
I checked the boxes for #'s 1, 4 & 5. For #5 one could also be working with old beans. Thanks for the tips, Kev.
Thanks Michael 🙂. When you say old beans, are you referring to slightly older freshly roasted, or supermarket beans? Ta, Kev.
Thank you so much! We were freaked out if our machine is broke but easily fixed after watching this video
Fantastic :-)
Once again, Kev, you nailed it. So well explained & easy to understand as usual. Since my wife & I have sampled your coffees I have become an even greater fan. Thank you for guiding me through the minefield of good coffee & good espresso making. All the best.
Thanks Mike,
I'm so glad you have found my videos helpful :-)

Kev
Very helpful, thanks, Kev.
Cheers 🙂
Thanks so much for this. Came upon this while looking for a solution to my Breville randomly stopping giving shots except for a couple of sad drips. We've tried buying new cups, descaling and thoroughly cleaning the dispense. Long story short I've just now changed the grind
level on my grinder (it was turned all the way down to Turkish 🤦🏽♂️) and we'll see how it goes.
Glad you are enjoying your new machine Daniel,
Cheers
Kev
Profitec Pro 400 £1149
Sage the Dual Boiler £874.30 (30% voucher)
Profitec Go £769
Gaggia Classic Pro Espresso £429
Sage the Duo Temp Pro £279.98 (30% voucher)
Hi Kev, I did the recommended hack on my Gaggia MD15 & made 2 shims out of a carton tea box. it's working very well & I'm getting very fine ground coffee. Thanks a lot. 🙏👌
Fantastic!
My portafilter still has a bit of liquid after the brewing process. Why? What do I need to do?
Thank you!Ed
You lightly touch on the volumetric buttons. I’ll just go ahead and say that it’s better to pull shots manually. There’s too many variables for a programmed volumetric shot and you may not get the result you’re expecting. Manual shots using a shot timer(like on the Pro) along with scales helps me diagnose problems with my puck prep quickly. I also like the pre-infusion control aspect of manual (8 seconds for me).
I completely agree Robert, and there's a "simplifying espresso" video coming soon on this point. Cheers, Kev.
@@StephenRandall wait till you start roasting your own coffee beans. It’s coming.
I've got Barista Express Impress and I increased my volume by about 30% now I have just over a 1:2 ratio in about 27-second shot time. It's easy to change the volume permanently, have a look at the Breville instructions.@@StephenRandall
What about - espresso is coming out of one side or hole of the porta filter but not both
Thanks for that, have you experienced this with a portafilter with a traditional splitter, or one of the types with the two stubby spouts? Ta.
I have the same issue, with Sage Bammbino Plus and supplied Porta filter, two stubby spouts
5:15, you ask us to watch a video 'up here' - no link presented Kev? On Ratios I think?
That was a test dave, you passed 😆. Ta for that.
My oracle lost all of its shot volume settings the other day. I pressed the double shot button and the shot never finished. I had to manually stop it… never had an issue in the 2 years prior.
I would get in contact with Sage support just in case there is a fault.
before making grind more coarse just try to tamp very lightly. meanwhile note the non entry machine to his left. i had a breville with built in grinder but gave it up because could not grind fine enough for some beans. a very low end grinder in it.
Great video
Thanks James :-)
(but a new bag has arrived now, so I'll move onto that one.)
Lots of compliments from the coffee-drinkers in the family. Cheers!
Hi Tim,
I have the same setup as you and struggled with the chocolate browine blend to achieve 1-2 ratio without flowing too fast.
Ta, Kev.
@Coffee Kev Thanks Kev, I'll look forward to the up coming video. Thanks for the great content by the way. 👍🏼
Hello just bought the Breville Espresso Impress for some reason the auto dose button for grinder won’t do automatic I have to hold it for it to grind, I see in videos that it us just touched and grinds and stops by itself. Thank you
Thank you this helped me fix my machine. Thank you so much
Fantastic ;-)

Thanks.
My issue with the barrista express:
In order to get 1:2 ratio in around 20-25 seconds (from first drop in cup) I need around 19gr very finely ground coffee in my portafilter.

Any suggestions on a 54mm tamping station.

My husband just purchased a SAGE Barista Express Impress and has it on automatic grind but whenever I touch the button to grind the beans it doesn’t work! My husband will do it straight after and lo and behold it works for him! Can you help please or has my husband jinxed it so I can’t use it? Thank you.
My machine never leaves pre-infusion pressure, any ideas why?
I had this problem to at first so I tested using the pressure basket and the pressure went up so it at least meant my machine was working.
So I ended up using a finer grind .
Atm I’m using a supermarket brand and my pressure is still low, it’s in the finest grind setting so I’m assuming it’s cause the beans are old ( it doesn’t state the roast date on the bag)
@@katrinahendrey9826 mine was a problem with the grind size, sorted now.
You hero! I thought my grinder was broken, but you saved my day ❤

That's odd. You're using the single walled baskets? If so, I'd contact support. Cheers, Kev.
Cheers, Kev
@@Coffee_Kev Cheers Kev!

Everything works well on my machine - BUT when the machine heats up to temperature, steam is coming out of the water tank/container valve :/ The water in the water tank actually boiled and the spring loaded valve in the water container has actually melted.

Tested:
Stock Portafilter (PF) - which I only use for Back-flushing (on the display called Flush), I use a Normcore bottomless for making espresso.
Stock 1 cup dual walled basket.
The disc that now comes with the Barista Pro, the one with the hole.
One Cafiza tablet.
Total liquid 450ml
Via the PF 300ml
Back-flush into the tray 150ml

I have a sage duo temp pro. I’ve been using the same coffee grind and same grind settings on my sage smart grinder pro, but recently I’m only getting three quarters of a double espresso shot. Any advice please? I took the grinder apart and gave it a good clean but the problem persists. Thanks Adam
My espresso shots have recently lost their lovely créma & become foamy and unpleasant, any tips as to why please?

TIA
My brevere espresso machine makes a loud buzzing sound after it pours a shot and it doesn't pour a full shot.. help
Hmm, yeah that doesn't sound right. Sounds like a fault unfortunately, , you'll need to get onto Breville or the retailer you purchased from.
Hi, do you have any recommendations where to order coffee beans to Sweden?
Have you ever had Error 05 on Breville Barista? I have tried plug it in off for a while and plug it again and didn't work. Pushing the milk sensor, milk steam, and nothing. Anything you can recomment? Breville charges a huge amount for service and I need to pay for shipping
Hi Kev, I have the breville barista express and it is making that clicking noise when grinding how do we fix that problem? Part replacement.
Hi Have a look at this short:

Kev
What should I do the machine didn't work coz I put 220volts, How can I fix it?
Hi Kev, I'm getting air in my shot - any recommendation to resolve the issue? Thanks Richard
My sage expresso has all lights flashing and not working at all help
So
Hi Kev, my sage touch impress has suddenly started making much larger shots, i usually make a double shot, which would usually make around 50ml of espresso, maybe a bit less, but today they have been coming out at around 85-90ml it doesn't seem to taste too bad, i don't usually drink straight espresso i make latte's but is this an indicator of an issue ? And is there anyway to get it back to normal quantity ?
Is it possible that a machine that previously had no issues releasing expresso in the past is now suffering from not-coarse enough beans?
Cheers, Kev
We need a remix of 2:35 - 2:38 😂
My sage barista touch brews for 3 seconds and then it goes from green to orange and stops on the 4th second, any idea on a fix before I send it back?
Hi Sam, if it is under warranty, get hold of Sage and tell them the issue.
What grind setting on the smart grinder pro would you suggest for your chocolate brownie blend?
Hi Carly, it'll depend on what espresso machine you're grinding for. Ta, Kev.
@@Coffee_Kev Thank you for the quick reply. Much appreciated… I’ll be onto them again today for the 4th call to them.
Morning Kev, i have a sage impress. Is it normal to continually having to set the shot time, im dialling in pretty good and set the shot time but as soon as I go to pull another shot im shooting different ratios. Using your italian blend
Just reading the below Kev. I have wee scales, i will just keep rocking it manually
Any ideas?
Hi Jake,
It sounds like your grind is too fine.
Cheers
Kev
Hey Kev after many years my machine now leaks from the bottom, I'd like to fix it (or pay someone) but unsure where to take it. Any recommendations ? Machine is the sage barista express. Will be going for the dual boiler next :)
Hi Not sure where you are based but I use Radu at espresso repair shop briaradu@yahoo.com
He is based in the North West .
Cheers
Kev
Able to pull a single shot but then when want to pull another shot for another person in the house it does not pull correctly. Always too high… cleaned and descaled still doesn’t change the 2nd pull
Couldn’t you just pre-grind coarser then run through finer with hard beans and weak grinder?
The problem with my barista is that coffee splash down... and some coffee dont fall in the cup. It looks that some coffee is going out by the joint.
My bravil shutdown while steaming, every time why is that?!
I can’t steam my milk😢
why does my machine shut down to soon
