Arnold: "That's funny! Now we are running." Yeah, no, listening to Arnold and Milius watch their own movie while they smoke the good shit is a fun time.
I’m a huge fan of movie scores and I humbly submit Pouledaris’ work is the finest ever produced. Basil was Greek so an extra little nod to the ancient world & I bet his ancestors would be proud of him. RIP
This commentary is directly where Josh Robert Thompson got the basis of his incredible Arnold impression from. It's why his impression sounds so real while everyone else's seems so cartoonish.
Where these fools even involved in this movie? They have absolutely no insights. It's like they're watching it for the very first time. That said....I love this commentary specifically for those reasons.
Movies sometimes play at different frame rates. In the cinema it’s 24 frames per second (or 48 in the Hobbit trilogy), and often very wide (21:9). Most European countries used the PAL TV screen standard which is a bit taller than 4:3 and is 25 frames per second (European electricity is 50 hertz, or 50 zaps per second). In USA, and presumably in Canada, they use the NTSC TV standard, which is 4:3 and 30 frames per second (their electricity is 60 hz, 60 zaps per second). This means that movies made for the cinema must be adapted in various ways to the TV frame rate. For NTSC they just show every 5th frame twice, to get from 25 to 30 fps. You’d assume that people would notice these extra frames, but as far as I know, they don’t. To adapt from cinema to PAL, 24 to 25 fps, they simply speed the movie up by around 5%, showing it *faster*. This affects the sound, so that voices and music are slightly higher pitch, and some people can notice that (not me, though), but since it’s just 5% it’s not a big deal. Visually, there is no difference. You can’t notice that the actors or vehicles are moving a tiny bit faster. Modern flat panel TV screens (which are also widescreens, often 16:9) can show different frame rates, unlike the old “boxy” TVs which were inflexibly locked to either 30 or 25 FPS. This is why it’s often difficult to get two different files to match up, for instance a video file wirh a subtitle file, or a video file with an audio file. One file might be based on 25 fps and the other on 24, or the other way around, or one might be 30 fps. This is an insidious problem, because early on the discrepancy will be so small that you don’t notice it - just a few milliseconds. However, as you keep watching the discrepancy, the mis-sync, will grow, and at some point it’ll become impossible to ignore. I can’t be arsed to calculate it, but it’ll happen well before the first hour. The solution is to try with different video files, until you find one that matches this audio. You can try to look at the total length of the movie file (e.g. 2:05:23 or whatever), or try to look into file properties to see the frame rate (23.97, 24, 25 or 30).
I can honestly say that Conan the Barbarian is my favourite movie. Its an incredibly deep piece of filmography.
This is one of the funniest commentaries. Those guys are literally just describing whatever is on the screen without much other input.
"exactly" (arnold voice)
Its funny considering this video has no footage so you dont have to watch the movie at the same time you can just listen to this as a substitute
Douchy McDouche they are so stoned.....
@@BNachamkin "dats right"
Maybe for Arnold. Milius lays out his grand vision behind everything very well.
I've seen this movie so many times I can just listen to this while I work and know each scene they are talking about. So good.
There are so many hilarious obscure Arnold quotes in this, I still say "Hah, exactly!" to this day

i also like the work Poledaris did for Robocop, that main theme is just iconic and is still memorable to this day RIP.
I got late into this movie. For me it was his Flesh+Blood score that got engraved into my mind. My favorite composer for sure. RIP
Score is amazing
best commentary track ever recorded
The best part of the disc. Two legends.
