What really impresses me about Keegan Hirst is that after he came out, he took great initiative to learn about our history. In addition, he has put himself front and center and has taken part in gay culture. He has fully embraced who he is. He could have easily stepped back and just lived a private life but he didn't.

Human beings can be so self-centred.
I "love" how, after he came out, his mom asked "How can you do this to *me*?"
This is who he is, or at least a part of who he is.
Would she have preferred for him to continue his life of pain being in the closet just so that she could remain comfortable?!
He is the one who's had to endure all the years of turmoil because of living in a homophobic world.

Sometimes you just have to give them time to go through their own coming out process. Many times they end up coming around. She may have been shocked.

Keegan knows the “recipe “ for success. He’s driven, has a huge heart, believes in local business, he has incredible kids, generous with his time and talent. I’m a huge fan.

I am so happy and aliviated that the men in his life were the ones that did not let him go down on his own after coming out

Yeah. It sounds like his mates were his biggest source of support. I totally get though why the wife would be pissed. Their relationship was lie so of course she's not going to pat him on the back. That's the biggest problem with the closet is you create so many lies that end up hurting those around you.

Good on you Keegan .... You are inspirational to other young men who are coming to terms with who they are ... If only many other sportsmen who are gay would come out it would make such a huge difference ..... Being gay is just part of life ..... I was out as a teenager, and am now very ancient, and have had the most wonderful life, and I'd do it all again if I had the chance.

My Dad was a Rugby Union Player and I was born gay. He didn't give a shit. Still loves me and helps me aged 82!
