Another great interview, Rich. I gotta ask, when are you going to have on fellow longtime 12-step recovery & Stoicism-practicing (as well as all around great guy) RFK Jr. on? I know he would do the show if you reached out to him. And as a longtime listener of your show, I believe it would be one of the best ones yet.
Yes, I'm a supporter of RFK Jr. In quick, random order, here's some of my reasons for supporting RFK Jr...
-genuinely wants to heal the 'culture war' divide in our country, and he has the ability to, being liked by many different 'types' of people from across the spectrum of issues and ideas, who are tired of the 2-party duopoly
-calm, humble, has integrity, has courage, truth seeker in general, thinks for himself (not a DNC/RNC puppet)
      -not phony
      -incorruptible, cannot be bought
      -thoughtful and introspective
-deeply considers problems and possible solutions
-vocal about the corruption of 'Citizens United' and the power of the big private money controlling government
-vocal about putting an end to corporate capture over government (pharma, banks, oil, military industrial complex)
-wants to get us out of 'forever wars' and to pull back on and expose the corruption within the military industrial complex
-wants to pull back NATO and resolve the Ukraine problem via negotiations
-vocal about the dishonesty and agendas of commercial media
-wants to abolish all pharmaceutical advertisements on television (this has major influence on the 'news' narratives)
-wants to keep the pharmaceutical industry honest with safety testing, transparency, etc
-wants to get rid of government assist crony capitalism and subsidies for big ag, oil, etc
      -advocate for civil liberties
-vocally against censorship (will free Snowden and Assange on 'day 1')
-against mandates and police state-like policies
-classical liberal sensibilities with respect of others (without the 'woke' or fake identity politics)
-vocal commitment to transparency regarding FBI, CIA, NSA over-stepping and out-stepping
-passionate about environmental and ecological concerns
-passionate about investing in regenerative farming practice
-passionate about cleaning our food supply and exposing the unhealthy ingredients in processed 'foods'
-wants to bring preventative health more into public discourse; nutrition, exercise, etc
-will immediately close the border (this is not some republican scare issue, it is a very major issue - for many reasons)
-will send the necessary Asylum Judges to the border to expedite the process for legal migrants
-has an excellent plan to make homes affordable for all, including a program that backs mortgages at 3% and a tax structure to keep Black Rock from continuing to buy everyone out (this also will bring rent costs down dramatically)
-due to his family/background, he's well-learned from the inside of the various power structures
-due to his decades as an attorney successfully taking on major corporations, as well as government regulatory corruption, he is exceptionally well-suited for taking on the myriad of corporate capture over our government
*I wrote the list above many months before Oct 7, 2023. I should add, especially directed towards my brothers and sisters of the populist 'left' and populist 'right', 'progressives', 'libertarians', and people who are just antiwar, in general...
-RFK Jr. is in support of Israel (as am I). However, this in *no* way means he isn't also in support of helping the innocent people within Gaza. RFK Jr. has always been very aware of the conditions for the people within Gaza, and is especially aware of, and feels deep heartache for, the Hell they are living in now. As President, he is a person who would do all he could to help seek lasting peace and prosperity for all in the region
-although RFK Jr. is a supporter of Israel, he is not a fan of Netanyahu, and has said repeatedly that he would *not* be writing him a blank check with American dollars to do with as he wishes
-there is no one who would fight harder or more tirelessly to reach out to everyone involved, as well as to leaders outside of the region, to try to negotiate and implement a sustainable peaceful solution for both the Israelis and the Palestinians. RFK Jr. would bring many ideas and a commitment to approaching the problem there from several different angles, and involving several other players. In fact, he would have been doing this before Oct. 7. (Simply yelling 'apartheid', 'genocide', etc is *not* in service of an actual *solution* - ask Hamas)
-and unlike anyone from the 2 major parties who supports Israel, RFK Jr. would never be lead by the corrupt (and disgusting) sheer financial interests of the Military Industrial Complex when it comes to *any* of America's foreign policy; including with Israel

This is really solid stuff! I really resonate with this guest because I lost my father when I was a young 7. And at the end of the day my entire life I've struggled feeling out of place, but it wasn't that I was wrong, it's just that I got an understanding at an earlier age than most, wearing my heart on my sleeve and realizing the importance of every moment, where as in the United States it's not that way. It led me to feeling very shameful when I was younger, but since, have embraced my truth through my spirituality and have a depth that is comforting to myself as well as those around me. I found that life is about being the instrument more than it is, being the best at playing that instrument, with outside validators being the referee if that makes sense.

Dr. Alok Kanojia, the CEO and face of the TH-cam channel HealthyGamer, would be a phenomenal guest to piggy back on many of these ideas. He mainly studied and followed Raja Yoga, the Yogic path of Meditation, and has really well formulated ideas on what happiness, suffering, contentment, detachment, and duty are. I can't recommend him enough!

Very inspiring conversation. My own path to knowledge and growth has been enhanced by the conversations between Rich and guests like this man. Any wisdom that uplifts and enlightens is gold. When it's also delivered by a couple of real human smart guys, telling the truth, it's also palatable and captivating. p.s. It's not wrong or selfish to love the gifts bestowed upon you by God and your ancestors, and cultivated by you, that enhance your sense of self. If we are expressions of God, aren't we encouraged to love our own beauty and accomplishments, as we love God and as we love the same things in others? I love the music I create, fully aware that it comes through me from sources beyond my human limitations, and is then crafted by my human instrument, which I have honed with discipline and commitment.

    Loved it.
I found the exploration of 'ego' particularly intriguing. I can relate to experiencing heightened levels of upset at times, despite knowing it's disproportionate. It's almost comical how much it can sting, knowingly. While it occurs less frequently now, it's still a familiar occurrence. To seek understanding, I've delved deeply into the reasoning behind it. Furthermore, I refrain from labeling it as wrong. After all, getting upset or hurt is a human emotion, varying in intensity from person to person. It's something we should acknowledge and accept.
The real skill lies in how swiftly one can move past it. For me, in about 90% of cases, it takes just a few hours or a good night's sleep. Our thoughts have the power to influence our hormonal balance. However, it still lingers in the back of my mind for a while, especially when life falls into a routine. Yet, it gradually fades over time.
However, there are occasions when a particular episode lingers longer in our consciousness, repeatedly resurfacing. Here's my perspective on why this happens: Unlike monks or spiritual practitioners, who lead a secluded spiritual life and interact with seekers who come to them for guidance, people like you and me live in the real world, striving to make a positive impact on society. We actively engage with the world, pouring in passion, dedication, hard work, discipline, and a spiritual mindset. Consequently, by choosing to contribute positively to society, we inherently expose ourselves to vulnerability. We will inevitably face hurt, to varying degrees. Conversely, if we were to embrace an ashram lifestyle today, we would be shielded from such hurt.
The bottom line is that adopting a resilient attitude doesn't diminish our spiritual depth. In the real world, our patience is continually tested. This is why even spiritual leaders can experience upset when dealing with the complexities of the world. Therefore, ego plays a crucial role in navigating the challenges of real-world living while maintaining a spiritual outlook.
    Keep doing the great work.
    Warm regards

The diversity in the human family should be the cause of love and harmony, as it is in music where many different notes blend together in the making of a perfect chord. If you meet those of a different race and colour from yourself, do not mistrust them and withdraw yourself into your shell of conventionality, but rather be glad and show them kindness.

Having been a martial artist for many years, he's actually mistaken in his claim that martial artists don't come from rage. Many martial artists scuplt and use their rage and passion simply a fuel, it depends what you do with it. "One cannot give away what one does not possess" He claims to be a master, he has lots of information, which should not be confused with actual wisdom.

This discussion made a recent experience worth including here. I had a rough day following the close out of my dad’s estate. For whatever reason, I convinced myself that closing out his estate would put an end to my mourning. I’m work oriented so this makes sense on some level. But that's not how the world works. So, to make myself feel better, I watched a variety of NDEs on TH-cam. If you watch enough of them, you see that there are themes. One included that many people who die and come back have a period where all of their questions are answered. After watching a bunch of these, I decided to write a journal entry connecting my grief to the questions that I'd ask God if given the opportunity.
Much of what I said was more strident than my natural tendency. I figured, I'm emotional and all the NDEs reflect a God who knows us completely, so why buffer things? One of the questions, among many, was why don’t we treat our elders with more loving kindness. Of all the questions that I wrote, this was the only one that I paused over. My strident questions asked whether God was even there, whether God sends signs, and if so, “why so subtle!” The last was my most assertive of the group.
I wrote that and a while later I went to dinner. I sat at a local bar where they had Chive TV on. There I was having just sat down, and on the television screen began a lengthy compilation of people being loving to elderly people.

    Hey Rich,
You're going to McLeod Ganj; have a fine time... 😊 we are big on India 🇮🇳. You're going to love it; any place in India is fantastic... some of the best places aren't famous, just real life.
Rich, get into this... move away from western propaganda; Honestly, the way you talk shows that you are way off from understanding the meaning of this. I mean this in the most friendly way.
I know you're going to the Dali Lamma...that's great, but a simple monk in bodgaya is probably more suitable for you, Rich: when you first start learning the violin, you don't need Richard Wagner as your teacher, hehehe. That's your ego, Rich. Get real...
    That's a great podcast... excellent.

People have to realize relationships are NO different than any other learned skills or LEARNED sprituality. You MUST LEARN HOW to do relationships so they are enhanced .If you think you DON'T have to learn how to do them well you are seriously lacking in intelligence. It's NOT a wing it life skill.
