Thanks for your great idea to use the pegboard hook. Just ran into the same problem with my 2007 Fusion. Took me about an hour including finding a suitable pole, taping the hook securely, removing and reinstalling the back seat. My main problem was that I couldn't see the release very well. The trunk light was on but it was very dim. I was using a 1x3 to pry the opening between the seats open I also had the car in my garage with big door open and the rear of the car facing south which allowed a lot of glare from the sun. I don't have a skinny flashlight to fit between the seats. I finally realized if I closed the big door and worked in semi-darkness I could see the release tab clearly between the seats. Took 2-3 tries to hook the release and pop it open. Just ran piece of nylon twine through the seats to use as a trunk release until I get a new part.

Another successful escape! At least for the 2007, the distance from the hole at the base to the pull cord is about 5 inches longer than a yard stick. Thank you for the nudge to try it this way

I literally searched through through dozens of videos when I came across this video, life saver! Thank you so much!!
Why the hell would they put the latches to fold the seats down IN THE TRUCK. 😫

That is a great question! If you already have access to the cab of the car, why not put the seat release latches where they are convienent? Ask Henry Ford, I guess!

So ,it looks as though the electronic mechanism was fried , which is integral to the key cylinder , and made the key in-operative , the actual latch is still good need a new key and cylinder , off to the wreckers !

Is there a way to do this from inside the trunk to fold the seats down? From the outside coming in. Locked out currently

@@kingjman1994 On my car, the seat- release levers were inside the trunk. Without the trunk open there was no access to those levers. Not sure if all Focus models were like this. Sure, it would have been easier to fold the seats down and just reach in to pull the tab. Had to find an alternate way, as the video depicts.Hope this helps.

@@vhsHQ4hedd Kind of realizing that after doing some more research. I think I might be able to release the latch from inside the trunk, kind of the opposite problem for me haha. Battery is dead and the door handle on the driver side is broken. Only way in is the trunk currently.😁 Appreciate the quick response though!
