as a lifelong mavs fan, once the mavs got that title, i gained a tremendous respect for the spurs because we saw firsthand how difficult it was to win just one, let alone five. The rivalry has a different, more respectful feel now, imo. I think we were all just jealous of the success and came to understand how insane the spurs' run really was.
@@Posterharpua i've always had a tremendous repect for the mavs. The rivalry to me was my favorite games to watch. Not gonna lie i was cheering for dallas vs miami but that series showed great ball movement, rotations, and all out fight from the mavs

Dirk got got a long playoff history with the Spurs. Very classy of them as always to make a tribute.
This is why many players respect the spurs organization
Miami raised their rival Jordan Jersey
tim... SO true. That was really because of Pat Riley deciding to but it is also an overlooked point in the James vs. Jordan argument. How many players have EVER had their number retired by a team for whom they never played? Only Jordan. The Heat were getting good then too, they won the Championship some time afterward too so it wasn't a bottom feeder organization. *It was far from 100% Pat Riley making the decision, I know.
Dirk will forever be my favorite player 😢

Mavs were a rival for the Spurs so many years with Dirk leading the way. The 06 series is still a classic. Much respect to Dirk from a Spurs fan!
Still the best series I've ever seen, as a Mavs fan it was so satisfying to finally get past the Spurs, the image of Dirk driving to the basket at the end of regulation when he gets fouled by Ginobilli will always live in my memories.
My favorite series in the last 20 years....being a die-hard Spurs fan, that one was a tough one. But Dirk, Josh Howard, Devin Harris and the boys were a bit too much for the Spurs that year. Dirk was and is a really unique talent that held his own in the power forward era (Duncan, Webber, KG, Rasheed) of modern NBA.
