Using MEC makes me much better of a pilot. Forget about it in fights and kill my engine half matches. Get killed while searching for the supercharger gear data the other half of the matches. Other than that totally worth it. Recommend.
used a very old video to first learn about htis, very nice to learn some of hte specifics that never taught on a side note, id' say that if any thing, the one and true advantage to MEC is radiator control. even if you completely ignore the other parts of this, not burning out your engine and holding WEP longer is always an improvement
As for the independent engine controls, prop feathering a badly damaged engine on a twin engine fighter can be the diference between flying badly or gliding ok!
You can sustain 60-65ish prop pitch with WEP (110% throttle) with the 109s. Anything above 65 prop pitch, you can’t have the throttle all the way up. It’s great to use at an airport with an altitude of 7000ft or higher. 70% prop pitch at 80% throttle really helps me get off the runway at those higher altitude runways with the 109. But of course, I only play simulator. Not sure how it works on realistic.
The prop pitch percentage = to throttle thing only applies for climbing right? Cause if you wanna go top speed in leveled flight you'll need to decrease prop pitch as you achieve high speeds (I might be wrong, but please confirm or correct me) Prop feathering yes quite important especially on multi engined planes like the mosquito and hornet (yes if you lose an engine on the hornet and you prop feather that engine your chances of (a successful) rtb increase massively)
For those who dont know, if youre plane doesnt have an air brake if you cut throttle open radiator flaps and change prop pitch it will infact slow you down slightly depending on thw weight and dive characteristics of the plane. For example the p-47 is so heavy this method does next to nothing
What hurts me is that there is a radiator setting for radial engines. (ie.p-47, hellcat, wildcat, p-36, Fw-190) those are air cooled engines. You would be controling the cowling flaps for cooling, and I'm sure that's what they mean, but it still bothers me.
so having control of the radiator in the P-51 isn't going to matter? I was brought here because of another video describing opening the radiator, and I didn't know what that means- but apparently it's one of the biggest advantages of the p-51D-20-NAs?
in air RB does the instructor lockup your controls when in a flat spin? ive been flying the f4u4b and gotten into two flat spins and noticed no matter what i press or do my controls stay in one position, regardless if i use keyboard or mouse to try to get out of it. Is the only way to get out of a flat spin in that situation to switch to full real quickly?
He does, but its because most of the time he is doing whats best to get out of that flat spin. If he can't get out of it, you probably wont either. And yes, switching to real is the only way.
Hey how do you make the MEC stay at a certain percent? I use the exact same controls as you do for MEC and it always can only do 0, 50, and 100% and nothing in-between, except for the mixture, which is either 0, 60, or 120%. I just can't ever make it stay without holding a button and to get something to stay at a percent i have to spam the button to try and get something in-between. Please help
I prefer seperately because some planes have oil radiators with barely any drag (see f4u) so you can keep those on 100 and control the normal one as you see fit
some boom and zoom youtuber uses it. it's been a while but I think he was Australian and had a green logo. during a dive set the pitch way down and you will accelerate to your red line speed faster. just remember to create thrust you will need to put the pitch back up. if you can find his video on boom and zoom he explains better than I can.
the time it takes, during a dive, to accelerate is affected by prop pitch. if you're over your max straight-line speed then the props are just a big umbrella in front of your plane creating drag. the radiators can be opened up to provide cooling without sacrificing engine speed, but at the cost of increased drag. I don't know much about how to use radiator in battle but no one else answered you so there's my 2 cents
whenever i try and increase or decrease radiator it just goes from 50 down to 49 or up to 51, i even tried the f4u to see if it was my spit that was the problem but it still didnt work
@@DEFYN so i worked it out, you down want them to be set as the reset buttons as well because if you have them set to reset and to change then when the change they also re set and obviously that's what was happening
I believe some prop pitches are unadjustable as early props didn’t have the adjustability and were set at the ‘optimal’ pitch for flight. This is usually low tier props from my experience
Some planes yes but thats because the planes have everything on auto themselves Like 109s for example but its not a feature in the game itself its plane specific sadly
th-cam.com/video/VM7GpvvrbNI/w-d-xo.html min 7:30 i found a solution for F8F-1B with that trick. I played with WEP most part of match i managed to set the propeller pitch at 80% and both radiators at 50% and the mixture at 90%, some time i had to open it but in a short period of time and after fights with no issues.

Ground Battles: literally WASD
Air Battles: You have to became a irl pilot and plane mechanic to play optimal

I used Matric, which is sort of custom buttons but on your phone, so you can make the controls look like the actual airplanes ones

I thought the same thing, lowering prop pitch only works when going far above your straight line speed according to adam
So I always manually do that, but was wondering if auto controls feathered the prop on a damaged engine
For those who dont know, if youre plane doesnt have an air brake if you cut throttle open radiator flaps and change prop pitch it will infact slow you down slightly depending on thw weight and dive characteristics of the plane. For example the p-47 is so heavy this method does next to nothing
Thank you for this, keep coming back as my controls got shot again lol
If you're playing on console, and have a HOTAS, controls can be bound to the controller and HOTAS. Keyboard not needed.

I mean there will be a oil cooler, but those places don't use a liquid to cool the engine.

That engine control may save you from a flat spin though if you got two engines
I mostly just want to know about MEC to feather props on dead engines and open my rad during a climb. 🙃
I don't know if the MEC and Supercharger sheet is still relevant now, is it still updated Defyn?

Can you do a video of your key binding set up for keyboard and mouse?
I'm unsure why but I cant even enable manual engine mode even thought i set up my buttons
Just the ability to airbrake using 100% pitch and 0% throttle is enough to use MEC :P
You can set up MEC on controller but it's very tedious to do it
I can imagine
Could you provide your keyboard mapping file for download, please?
What about bombers in the spreadsheet?
As radiator and oil radiator should be managed equally, could I set them both for the same key binding?

Hm, now I know how I setup an oil Radiator, but why I should change the value? Or why to change propeller pitch? What are the benefits?
