My first camping trip with my husband was when we first said I love you...and then we got food poisoning and threw up for the next 10 hours. 7 years later and we still camp all the time and that is one of our favorite memories!
My fiancé and I have had those firework Oreos. They're so good! It's like having pop rocks in your mouth while your chewing down on deliciousness. I hope Calvin feels better, poor little guy. When your that young, it's tough and confusing being sick. Luckily, he has the best mommy and daddy to love and take care of him. Many many more camping trips to come for your family!
i guess it is just part of traveling life with small children. poor Calvin. i hope he feels better soon! keep in mind that smaller children get sick on vacation more easely as there imune system isnt compleet yet. (the imune system builds up until the age of 21 years. (it is a thing not many people know.) xxx
I am 31. My family still talks about the camping trip we made whey i was 12 with my 5yo and 2yo little brothers. A bad call was made on if the Sunny D had expired or not. It had. Trip cut short. All of us puking the whole way home from Northern CA to Washington. No one in my family has had Sunny D since. We had many more fun family camping trips after but this was one of the most memorable.

My husband and I are backcountry campers/hikers and one of our favorite things about the experience is that mother nature is so humbling. Nothing ever goes 100% right when you're outdoors and there's nothing like a mishap to bring you back down to earth and realize how wonderful the world is. Our first few trips were definitely learning experiences and we're still learning. You'll never be 100% prepared for every situation and that's the beauty in letting go of every day conveniences to experience the outdoors. Happy camping guys!
for next time ya'll should get a container or stock the camper with the things you need but dont have to be refrigerated or kept cold like the diapers and head lamps and whatnot so that way its already in there and there is less to pack.

Sucks that Calvin is under the weather! But very true each camping trip you will realize what you may want to have with you. We use to keep a book in our trailer or vehicles & every time we stopped somewhere along the way that was a cool place, we would write it down so we could remember to visit there again. Or if we needed to replace or add something to our trailer, we wouldn't forget! Glad you got to break in the trailer & I hope the little munchkin feels better soon!
This week has been very hard on me, and I didn't know if I could make it thru because just like Ellie the only thing I wanted to do was curl up in a ball and close the door, you guys bright up my life and help me with this… thank you for doing this and sharing these moments! My family has a memory of going camping sort of similar to this. We borrowed an RV from some friends and my parents took all four of us kids to a camp ground pretty far away, but ALL of us got sick. Throwing up all over our friend's RV!! It was awful, but we always laugh about it and remember it even after 15+ years. I'm glad you guys are able to create memories of camping with your kids. Even if they don't always go as planned, they are still going to be memories to laugh about later:)
i distinctly remember a camping trip where all of us kids (3 of us) got sick a few days apart on the the same trip. A stomach bug went through us all. Sure it was not fun at the time but you can look back now and laugh about it and always remember THAT trip. we had a fun time after we got better. it certainly happens to everyone!
The blessing of you camping and being in the trailer, you smelled the concern so Calvin wasn't laying in the longer than otherwise would have occurred.
I completely recommend keeping the plastic on the beds! My family has a pop up camper that my grandparents actually gave to us after they had it for about 16-17 years. Needless to say it went through many grand children and the mess that comes with that! They actually left the plastic on the beds for that very reason and we have left it as well. It makes keeping it clean so much easier not to mention it keeps them from not absorbing the smells from our clothing like campfire smoke or even farm animal smell because my family has used our camper at the local fair every year when we show animals.
Poor Calvin...coconut oil works really well for a rash and if you have lavender essential oil just add a drop of that as well, it should help soothe his bottom.
You guys did a great job!! We live in New Zealand and have been tent camping for 15 years and we have 3 kids under 6 years old and without a doubt something will happen, ear infection, strep throat it's always crazy!! We love it to hope you do to!
I found myself needing kids Benadryl when camping! My sons were "carving" trees with plastic knives and one of mine must have been allergic cuz his eye swelled up so bad! After one dose of Benadryl he was fine. I was so glad I had it especially in the woods!😊

Headlamps are the best thing ever... put one with the spare tires in all your cars/vans... and put one in your tool box for plumbing jobs...and one in the kitchen for if you lose power... OH JUST WEAR ONE AT ALL TIMES!! They're that good! I give one to all my nieces and nephews when they get their driver's licenses... just love them!
