It’s about not threatening a qb that he’ll be benched UNLESS he changes his injury guarantee. Why do you think they ended up not benching him? cuz the NFLPA told them they’d get sued if they benched their qb for that reason.
not to mention when they approached him the team was bad because they had the 32nd ranked defense but Russ was averaging 278 YPG with 16 TDS to 4 INTS (best ratio in the NFL) THEY DID HIM DIRTY !
They didn’t bench him until way later in the season tho. This is non-story being pushed by Russ’ PR team.

The Broncos had every opportunity to study who Russ was and what he had left before they signed him. There had to be a reason Seattle was so willing to let him go while there was still some Prime left. Denver created the contract. Russ signed it. Same with the Browns. The Watson contract looks terrible and everyone called it terrible. That is the billionaire's fault. If they put a contract in front of you or I for millions although we have never played a down, would you sign it? I would and the results would be on the side that created the contract.
You may say these are new owners but if you know anything about football, franchise QBs can change a franchise's destiny. Who the QB is and the possibility of who the QB could be is a part of making a decision in buying a team. The Waltons knew who the QB was when they bought the team.
The NBA once blocked a CP3 to Laker deal because the Hornets were in the middle of being sold. A Hornets team without CP3 would have less value so they blocked the deal.

I am a player person. I like Russel Wilson and just like Arod said he is playing pretty good this year compared to last year under Sean Payton. I think they should keep Russel and and build more but that's just my opinion.
You haven't watched him play this year. He immediately checks down if the first option isn't there. Takes too many sacks. His production has gone from mostly broken plays. He's not the answer I'm Denver. Better to move on for both parties.

Denver doesn't have the cap to build a team with Russ that's why they benched him. He needs to take a pay cut so they can get some better players, but Russ won't do that he only cares about money and not winning.

It’s hard to say whether this was a bad deal or was it made this year to look that way. Like Rodgers said this whole thing puts into question play calling, sheds light on sideline interactions etc. In other words was Wilson put in any situation to succeed or was he sabotaged? We’ll more than likely never know, nobody will admit this happened ever
so when players make bad deals they should have to play out their remaining contract and not get to renegotiate for more money just because they had a better year than expected.
@@userac-xpg yes. That’s how it generally works. Look at big names in sports. Scottie Pippen is one of the best examples. Signed a deal because he needed money but in the end if the owner doesn’t want to renegotiate they don’t have to.

Russ has been terrible as a Bronco. 11-19. 10 fumbles this season. He can't step into or throw in the pocket. He misses wide open receivers. He holds on to the ball way too long and is a sack magnet. 27th ranked offense. He's also 17-27 in his last 44 starts. He isn't good. If it wasn't for the defense and Courtland Sutton, denver might have only won a game or 2.

It’s one thing to approach a franchise QB/representation about his willingness to restructure a contract. It’s entirely a different matter to threaten retribution against anyone under contract, much less a franchise QB, if they’re not willing to take a pay cut or give up a contractual guarantee. That’s against the law. It falls under “bad faith” and intimidation, and it’s morally wrong, whether you like/support RW/his performance or not. If you expect or want to justify your stance based on RW’s performance, then find a way to agree on contractual language that reflects that, ie incentive based language. As the contract stands now, given the way the situation has been handled, RW has all of the legal and moral high ground so far. Coming from a Seattle sports fan who doesn’t hate RW, but I’m happy to see his career sour post-Seattle, considering the way things went down when he left.
I just hope people realize what a fraud and terrible coach Sean Payton is. The dude is awful, and yet for some reason, people act like he's good, news flash, he isn't.
Hope the NFLPA loves the Broncos tenderly for this.

They make deals with these players and their agents, then they want to renege on the deals when it suits them. If the Bronco's are so worried about Russ getting $37 mil if he gets injured, then why have they been letting him play this season? If they benched him early in the season when they were horrible, the team probably wouldn't have won those 5 or 6 games on that run, and they would be in the top 5 or 6 teams drafting in 2024 and they could have a shot at a top QB in the draft. Or does Seattle own their #1 pick? I don't know. What I do know is that that team and Sean Payton don't look very good right now.
