I remember that, the plant was done when GN production ended ! I have an 87 GN I purchased new December 04, 1987. That last one was built December 11, 1987 ! I have the book ! Condolences for your uncle !
@@KenanTurkiye Hold on, hit the brakes. I don't think your estimate is too low at all. In fact I think your estimate grossly over what a GNX would go for. This particular car, the last Grand National ever produced, has significance beyond it being just that. It was the last G-Body to roll off the assembly line in the G-Body Plant in Pontiac, MI on December, 11th 1987. That would be the last car to roll off the assembly line, all the 1988 Monte Carlo's were already built. All the GNXs that were to be built, were completed by the mid summer I believe. After plant shutdown for two weeks in the summer of 87, the G-Body Plant reopened because the demand for the GN was so great that Buick decided to extend the 87's production run until December, producing another 10k units. As a matter of fact, some of options on the late 87 production run were limited due to the fact that there weren't enough parts for certain options. Due to the demand, the plant got a stay of execution and some people remained employed for the remainder of the year. The plant these vehicles were built in I believe was built itself in the 1920s. Even the mighty GNX isn't fetching $500k yet. I have an 86 GN and I have people offering me like $15k for it and it's a fairly nice example. I paid $13k for it back in 2008, so it hasn't appreciated all that much at all. Despite what people might be saying. My car isn't stock, I bought it to drive and have fun in. Even with the engine being built with a forged rotating assembly and aftermarket aluminum heads and a full billet build for the stock transmission, I probably couldn't get more than $20 to $25k.
Lol wow looked at thumbnail picture and swore it was hoovies garage. anyways great cars. What an experience it must have been to be in attendance! 🚗 ❤️
I got a car museum/consignment place near me... I would put it in there with seats so people could watch the video of it being assembled... A stunning video of the last G body! Truely it must have been hard for the workers, and to have the time capsle of the whole package, man all you are is a custodian of history of GM and Buick! An Epic car...
I miss watching the actions on speed. Good times. Hoovies garage is a great channel. Can't believe how similar he is to what I want to do. Be amazing to work someday for the action
Love Hoovie. Great story too. Just a man who didn’t give up on his dream no matter how many times he failed. Went from failed used car dealer to giving commentary at Barrett Jackson. Well deserved success for Hoovie.
I remember looking at a super low mile Grand National in 1988 or so for $13,000 up on May Avenue in OKC. I think there's a shopping center there now. I think it was Lynn Hickey or something like that.
After going thru the YT vids, it appears the initial "winning bidder" was likely a BJ employee, at first I thought this may seem "impropriety" for other vehicles shown and other make enthusists and resulting "rigging" etc. But now no way as it looks like someone outside came in last second and put an 550k offer❤ In any event this is why seeing auctions like this is great, and with the stories to go with it. A few years ago someone on eBay was selling a GMC Motorhome once owned by Sammy Davis and since the one piece MH was a full fleged production vehicle and not a typical MH on bare chassis unit, look forward to seeing some GMC Motorhomes roll in for auction. Plus with a max height of 8ft or less, would have no problem rolling in😊
Should you buy one ? Depends on how it is, obviously, But I have driven these cars and raced one of these on the street. When I was 17 I would test drive cars on the weekends for a dealership, Kings Chevrolet in St Marys Pa. An 87 Natty got me the job of keeping the "Race on Sunday, Buy on Monday" alive. I had an Olds Delta 88 4 door with a 468 ci . That Natty pulled almost as hard as my Olds. I raced it for the weekend and the guy who lost the most money to me went to the dealership Monday at 8am and bought the car. I liked the car, it handled very well and it launched pretty straight. The turbo lag was what I was not use to though, so it was a bit weird. But as I mentioned, I liked the car, so I got an 87 T Type Regal, 2 tone, grey/silver. I have not looked at the turbo sizes to see if there was a difference there or if the cams were different, but something was different. I believe its the only turbo car I have ever owned. ( I have owned a few hundred vehicles ) My buddy had a GNX, ex race car that was run on alcohol. I ran my 4.3L on 101 & 103 oct in my S10, non turbo, and that would rip, but it surprised me that the 4.3 in that GNX handled alcohol but it spooled that turbo quickly !!! If you are going for money, get the cheapest GNX you can and restore it. If you are going for the best bang for the buck and still have fun, get the T Type Regal. Or, you could buy a Yugo and call it a day.
The sad thing is this car will probably never get driven normally. I understand the significance of why it might be put in a museum but still, cars are meant to be driven
Then buy a used moderate milage grand national to drive.. this car is a collector item period. But wouldn't hurt to put a couple miles on it a year moving it around I guess.
@@absoluteclownworld I definitely see your point that it's a collector's item. But would you argue that just because it's a collector's item it should never be driven? That's the same reasoning is people who buy Funko novelty items or beanie babies and never take them out of the packaging.. Even a two million-dollar Lamborghini gets driven.
@Tim S. Sealed retro and some modern video games are worth 2x to 100x + their used open value.. same goes for other collective items in today's market. Want a old video game to play, then buy a opened used copy. Want to drive this car around, buy a normal used one.
Some speculation as prior to this "action" start the words "charity" was used where the winning "bid" was maxed out at 500k. The only prob was and this is a first bid I've seen where they do not show the smaller increment "nibbling" at least here, someone apparently did not get the message as some vid's show unit actually selling for 550k or more.❤
What a beauty. I didn’t know they had a grand national badge on top of the right head light ? Not a big deal or anything. I just never seen that before.
My uncle worked in that plant in Pontiac. I remember when they closed it down and he lost his job there. RIP Uncle Jack.

We are original owners of an 87 GN. Love these cars.
So am I !
One of my favorite cars of all time. Sexy, Elegant, Yet muscular. And fast. Love the Grand National.
Now imagine what it would've fetched, had it been a GNX.
700-800k ?
maybe even upward to the 1m mark, probably.
@@KenanTurkiye Nope! I don't think you understand the significance of this car, the last G-Body ever built.

Only 500K eh, figured it would have went higher due to the docs and stuff. Not too shabby though :)
It seemed like they quick hammered it when it got to $500,000 to me but it could just be the edit.

I was thinking about 1mill/ 1.5mill
The 2nd rarest 1987 Buick regal turbo is the Limited trim; 1000 made!!! Exactly the same mechanically with GN, more colors and trim.
Tried givin' him a dollar!
I don't care what its historical significance is, $500 grand is an absolutely stupid amount for a mid-80's GM vehicle!
You said it brother. Stupid money paid by rich twits..just a g body .so what. It's the last .
Anyone happen to know the name of movie this car was in?
opening scene of the 4th fast and furious franchise. They were robbing the oil tanker.
did it end in december 1987????? gbody regals?????
G bodys for the most part. Depending on who you ask at GM ElCaminos and Monte Carlos were continued to sold as 88 models and later.
Soup or Saturday ?I'll take Saturday 🤣
Tyler??
Why does it have “death cool” in the coolant bottle?
500 other 275
They were fast as long as the were 🏃♀️running which was very short
