$4 Million GM Futurliner - BARRETT-JACKSON 50th ANNIVERSARY

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 13 ม.ค. 2022
- To mark Barrett-Jackson’s half-century in business, this special series looks back at a few extraordinary vehicles from the past 50 years. These vehicles led the charge across the block - making history, setting records, and altering and ultimately reshaping the marketplace.
One of only 12 built by @GeneralMotors, the Futurliner is a self-contained display and transport vehicle created by the GM design staff under Harley Earl’s direction. It was the centerpiece of the “Parade of Progress” touring exhibit that complemented the GM “Motoramas” from 1940 through 1956. This Futurliner sold for $4 million, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Armed Forces Foundation.

Dad was a Marine, uncle who passed worked and retired from GM. I'm speechless. God Bless.❤🇺🇲 American Made.
To any service person who sees this, thanks you very much for standing up for us ❤
It is for us now, to stand up for them
That Futurliner still looks futuristic. Wonderful design.
Masterpiece.
Timeless.
I agree. Ya know it being from the 50's it should have more fins!!!
It looks like a portable 50's diner lol
@@goodcitizen7064 haha you're not wrong
God Bless Mr. Pratt, God Bless Barrett Jackson and God Bless The United States of America and those of you who selflessly Keep me and all of us Americans Safe and Free.

Reality called - We would like you back😁
A special thanks to all those who have served our country.
You're welcome. Someone had to protect the oil and we were there to do it. We dropped a lot of bombs on the other side of the world to somehow keep those at home safe.
Dave Kindig restored one from the ground up and even put a display similar to the original one had in it and it was a jet engine
Ya wondering if this is that one?
@@ADVENTUREKM I don't think so they said this one was some guys from Canada that sold it, pretty sure they would of mention Dave Kindig if it was as he has worked at shows before and they know him well
The one Kinduf restored has the rebuilt original engine and original tranny
@@martyflannigan5052 ya they didn't show inside either. The one Kindig did had a display that opened and a rocket engine display inside. But they could of removed it.
That was #3, this is #11
I'm from Cleveland OH. This was the first time I watched Barrett-Jackson on Speedvision in 2006 in that first auction of the Futurliner. Been hooked on this event ever since and have been going every year to Scottsdale for the week since 2015...... when it was auctioned up again here!!! So I had the luck of watching this Futurliner cross the block both times, once on TV and once in person!!!
Barrett-Jackson is my Disney World lol
I was thr the 1st time Ron Bought the "GM" cheers to a generous man who continues to serves his country his fellow men& woman!
That Futureliner is literally a giant of automotive history!
I watched it live and remember. A emotional moment as a vet.
We need more of this this is what being american is about coming together for the ones who sacrifice everything for our freedom
Pretty cool to see this beast roll through the auction! ~Props~
My grandfather
Bill Barnes was involved with the first Parade of Progress in 1936. As a mechanical engineer he was very proud of these incredible vehicles. He worked for GM untill his retirement in 1956. At that time he was the director of the GM Proving Grounds in Milford Michigan. I rember him showing me pictures and talked about his experience. He was a proud American and of his work with these vehicles.
I remember seeing the futureliners parked outside a furniture movers' warehouse back in the early 90's unrestored, in Minnesota.
God bless all you people who had anything to do with this and I love it (the bus 🚌 was very cool 😎)
Cool!! Thank you,men and women for your service!! G
Hands down my dream job. Getting the chance to drive all those different rigs. Something special
All that over the top raz-a-m-taz to sell the vehicle but not once did they consider showing what was inside. Having seen the Kindig restoration of one of these Futurliners, even the roof rises with floodlights inside to display the contents. They really are something to be hold if only they had opened it up.
Those are very cool especially to see in person!
There was one of these at the Oldsmobile Reunion car show in Lansing Michigan some years back. Pretty cool piece of history.
Thank you for this Sir.
Incredible.
I remember seeing that thing in person at the auction. I had no idea what it was but I sure as hell know now!
there will never be another futurliner again beautiful
Loved when Craig got on the mic and started the USA chant
There's a GM Futureliner in this condition at the National Automotive & Truck Museum in Auburn, Indiana.
Saw this build on Bitchin rides. Amazing.
That was not the one on bitching ride...
I remember this like yesterday! What a sale!
Great Job Mr. Pratt..
Incredible!
Still one of my favourite of all time!
I've seen that at the museum in Auburn Indiana. Thing is massive
That's some crazy stuff
I m so proud of this country…and every single veteran … hope we dont have any more wars ..so we can stop ptsd! …
GM has Many Vehicles that bring huge offers over others of big 3.
Well taking 5000 year
Great car show
There no other place to be then Barrett Jackson it is great it the best place to go if your a car guy the atmosphere is great you will fill young again and Jackson and Steve or great guys
That thing would be pretty cool to own
Looks like a Smeg toaster, don't get me wrong but it really really awesome !
This is NOT the one that Kindigit restored, nor is it the one in Sherman Oaks, this one belonged to a company named FIDO in Canada, they had it for several years, the Sherman oaks Liner sold a couple years ago to a collector in Germany, and I'm not sure where the other one went, but this one is not either of them.
One is in Sweden!
This vehicle used to be parked in Sherman Oaks-CA, right off of Ventura Boulevard, in unrestored condition, for years-circa 1988-1993 Only if I knew!
How come we can't see inside it?
No mention of Kindig it designs who rebuilt the Futerliner.
Steve Mags was off on the engine, these originally cam with a GMC inline 6 gas engine and a Hydromatic Transmission and there really were no highway systems yet as these parades did most of their time on two lane roads going from town to town.
@Ben Jones please look at the video of #10 in Atlanta which also backs up the DVD I have about the restoration of a Futureliner
th-cam.com/video/V-wHhnvSUUY/w-d-xo.html
its only 500 mins but at 2.50 it shows a list of drivetrain that I have read about in the past
That's right the interstates weren't here until the (mid 50's I think)
The one bitchin rides did was amazing at the end , with kevdog finding the cut away jet engine was outstanding
I would love to see the inside and God bless America
And dude this thing is actually such a rare vehicle
Like totally for real dude
I have seen one on display on a car meet in Sweden. I think it was Futurliner No.8, some dude that restoring it.
Beautiful. maneco - Brasil.
Take a shot every time he says Incredible
Drop in the bucket for Rick Hendrick
Is this one a Kingdig restoration?
Damn. Don't know if it was this exact unit but there was one of these parked for years behind the Taco Bell in Sherman Oaks. Like 15 years ago or more.
Serious??
Yes I remember seeing it every day
I remember this as it happened.
The background music sounds like Personality Crisis by The New York Dolls.
This thing has been auctioned I don't know how many times. At least a dozen times. Come on give it some bids.
Kindigit designs are true craftsmanships.i bet the first owner had no idea this bus would sell for 4mill.
This isn’t that one
That’s great that Mr Pratt is donating the proceeds to charity what about Barrett Jackson did they donate their fee?
100% of the sale goes directly to the charity, there is no fee from Barrett-Jackson!
@@BarrettJacksonTV well done guys , obviously Micheal doesn’t have the manners to thank you
Did they mention what number this one was of the 12 (9 left)? I wonder if it's #3 that decades ago used to be parked a few blocks away from me in N Hollywood CA for a while because I know #3 was owned by a guy in Chatsworth back then. Nope - upon research Pratt's was #11 Hmmmmmm I was blown away when I saw that thing - took lots of video; climbed all over it, you have no clue how big this thing is until you get near it. It was a driver because it was parked on a curb. The GM in front was not so gold and fresh as this one but more anodized faded with slight gold tint. Did I mention it was MASSIVE?? Massive and Art Deco up the wazoo. 🚗
Yeah, was that the one parked behind the Taco Bell on Moorpark St. in Sherman Oaks?
For charity! ❤👍🙏
I'd be truly impressed if the consigner "sells" it WITHOUT taking the "write off". It's like taking a $4 million "bonus" from the IRS.
What a Bad Ass Ron Pratt is...
How come they dont mention kindig design. They have for other builds
Back around 1987 there was an abandoned black GM Future-Liner just off Universal Blvd in Noth Hollywood in L.A. near where the 405 & 101 freeways connect. At the time I just got married and started a Mountain Bicycle component company called onZa. I desperately tried to purchase that GM Future-Liner to convert it into a promotional bus to attend national races across the USA. I kept leaving notes and business cards on the bus in hope that someone would contact me. At one point I offered to pay $20K cash on the spot, ("as is"), if the owner would just call me... Nada Pinata. Sadly one day it was gone, I guess it was just towed away and impounded by the city. I was going to try and contact the city, but at the time my company was growing faster than I could handle and had to let my vision of owning that GM Future-Liner, go..... To this day, I just wonder if that's the same GM Liner that was abandoned in North Hollywood? I say this because there were several GM Future-Liners made for that tour... Would like too know, Thank You, Dan Sotelo aka Mr onZa
repowered with a modern engline, gas... cracks me up all that weight and they used a gas engine, I know GM used their gas straight 6 with it too. but good lord, they were not expecting these to actually drive much were they?
you might be amazed at the things they did in 1950. It wasn't unusual to see only 150 HP 6 cylinder in a bus, with gearing holding it to maybe 50-60 MPH. Torque was another bonus with the 6 cylinder. Who cares what the fuel mileage was when gas was 25 cents. I'm sure fleets could buy gas even cheaper.
Was that the kindigit restored one?
I saw one of these sell at the 1999 barret Jackson
was this the one dave kindigit rebuilt few years ago?
Kindig was in high school when this occurred...
Dave kindig built this too in 2000
No... What he did was turn an amazing vehicle in to a cheap joke.
Just like you
@@sethcragan6649 Futurliner # 3 is the most period correct restoration rolling. Dave Kindig and his crew at Kindig-IT Design undertook the daunting task of restoring this beautiful behemoth. At 33 feet long, a little over 11 feet tall, an eight foot beam and weighing in at 12 tons, this was not a one man job. In fact Kindig said “from 4 to 12 of his crew were working on the resto at any given time,” going on to say, “actually, all 29 in the shop had their hands in this thing.”
He started working on it in 2012 and finished in 2014.
@@sethcragan6649 How so? He restored it to original specs. He could not use original 1939 parts as they were missing and not replaceable, so he had to fabricate much of it and source period correct alternatives. So in that regard, you're right it's not "original". But cheap joke? Hardly. Do your homework.
VERY COOL A
Is this the Kindig resto? That was honestly monumental. As I car guy, that was a great and in depth HUGE build. So if this is the Kindig build, nice job guys.
No, this isn't the Kindig Resto. You can tell by the bumpers and the interior seat fabric, not to mention a few other details.
@@danyocum6418
Thanks. I didn't actually watch it, I fell asleep.
watched Kindig Design do the build on this , over a year of metal work
this is a different one.
2015... Man! the economy was at its peak! I purchased 2 new cars in 2015, I really take care of them because I think will never be able to buy a new car again.... : (
You can thank Creepy Joe for the high inflation and bad economy!
Who was the group that remodeled this Classic? Kindig ? None better than Barrett-Jackson to sell this Classic.
Kindig
@@drloch6174 thanks for your help I thought so I watched a while ago. Have a great weekend
This is NOT from the 50th anniversary show. But from the 2015.
Kindigit built that one!!
George Hincapie on the front row? .... ride your bike kids.
Is this the one Dave Kindig and his team built ?
Was it built by Kindig?
I wonder if this is the GM Future liner is the one Dave Kindig rehabbed a few years ago?.
His had the jet engine display I believe
1st RV
Never show the interior...good call. 🤦♂️
And that’s why I couldn’t make my army clothing design because respect in the troops is more important I don’t think any store should be able to sell that outfit or design
Enter the MAMMOTH CAR theme
"SOOOOLLLD!!!!"
It is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. However, it is NOT 4 million dollars beautiful.
Is that not the one that Dave kind if that completely rebuilt
Ain’t this the one kindig it built
This video is one of the most american things I've ever seen (in a good way, of course) 😂 Flags, Marines, chrome, Fifties nostalgia, impossibly huge crowds, impossibly huge vehicles...
Is that that pos pratte bought?
Didn't Kendig refurb that thing?
I believe restoration cost more that 4 milj.
The Real Life Despicable Me Motorhome
400 grand to barrett for this sale wow
No you never dealt with B-J or you would know, their is no 10% fee for any of the charity cars, hasn't been for years nor do the other big names. Been to a number of them.
@@gc1172 well ive been to every single one since day one, the vendor pays %8 and the buyer pays %10 unless it is on reserve that you pay a set rate depending on value there are no exceptions even for charity , and fyi the charity money they donate come from the commission, if you dont know you should stfu gary
Going by the name and the green new deal I gotta assume it is electric.
Pretty sure this charity contribution to a little bit of God‘s work thank you. God bless our troops
Wish I had the money
How old is this
4 millions to help the troops?? You kidding me
It's never too much, for all their sacrifice.
