Excellent explanation! I had belt issues with my 2023 Hobie Pro Angler 14 360, and these changes "forced" me to buy a 2024 XR because the system is so much easier to deal with belt issues (which I'm hoping I don't experience!). QUESTION: What's the best way to adjust a locked 360 drive on the 2023 (previous) PA 14 360? IF I heard you correctly, reaching underneath while the Hobie is still in the water will allow someone to twist the drive to forward? Is that accurate? Or what should someone do? I'm selling my 2023 to my fishing buddy so want to let him know how to deal with that situation if necessary. Thanks for the awesome info! Keep 'em coming! And best of luck to you and your shop for 2024.
You are correct. The best way to straighten a locked 360 in the previous years is to have the boat in the water or on a stand and reach underneath and manually rotate it straight. Then you can remove the drive and hopefully fix the issue. Thanks for watching!
@@WindToys Thanks! I wish I had known that years ago! I had belt issues on my PA 12 and then PA 14.With the PA 12 I couldn't get the drive out so put it on my Dymanic Dolly since I couldn't slide the Hobie into the back of my truck with the drive sticking down. BUT at 70 I'm no longer strong enough to horse that into the truck. Thankfully a guy who worked for the town I was in happened by, stopped, and asked if I needed help. He was able to load the kayak in so I could haul it to my dealer. I'll pass this wisdom on to my fishing buddy (he's buying my 2023 Hobie PA 14).
Great video. Just sent you guys an email about my 360. Heading back to California in two weeks. Will be in your shop in May, looking forward to checking you guys out. Thanks again for this video… now I get how that thing works!
Did they add any support on the 360XR hull near the seat clips? As you know, that area is prone to cracks. Again, an excellent video. Hobie needs more dealers like you!!
They did add a plate below the seat clips on the 2024’s. It helps distribute the weight on the deck of the hull. Also always want to be sure the foam under the seat mounts is properly in place as it also helps support the load. Thanks for the kind words.
@windtoys You said they kept the same drive, were there any issues with the drive? Has the tensioning screw helped the belt breaking issues? Thank you, I am deciding between the 360 and 180 in a pro angler 14.
They had changed the drive a few years ago to the newer one which has fixed most issues with the drive itself. The new tensioning knob should hopefully make the belts be properly tensioned all the time which should lead to less belt failures. Thanks!
So what you’re saying is instead of actually fixing these issues they have with the hulls and drives they just put bandaids on them. Good to know thanks for the info. Do they charge extra now for the bandaids?
I think the drive well is significantly stronger on the XR, so any concerns there I believe have been fixed. As far as the belt goes, no matter how much R & D Hobie does truthfully only time will tell whether these changes will bring down belt failures. I like when a manufacturer addresses a weakness and try’s to fix it and i think the changes they made this year are an improvement over previous models. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for this video! Wish I could trade my 2022 PA-14 360 for the new XR! Both my belt and clutch broke and waiting for parts to be sent to the retailer. Not totally disappointed with customer service, but honestly not very pleased either! Bottom line, mine will get repaired. I can’t understand why Hobie will not sell parts like the 360 steering tube kit to customers. It’s making me rethink about buying a different brand.
Waiting on parts can be frustrating, I totally get it. Hobie is starting to sell the parts through their parts and accessories program (though i will admit lots have been backordered recently). When in stock (currently backordered) i have been carrying spare 360 steering belts and for around $40 i think it is totally worth having one around so you don’t have to wait as long and all though the job is time consuming it is not too hard if you are mechanically inclined. Good luck to you. Im sure they are getting you your parts as quickly as possible.
@@WindToys Well it gets worse. After removing all my accessories to make the repair easier for the local retailer, I noticed a crack in the hull in the area of the front seat leg / mount. Now the hull has been added to the warranty claim. I asked the dealer to inquire if they would just highly discount a new one for me and I would pay the difference. Not likely to happen but it’s worth a shot. I could replace the belt, but Hobie suggested to replace the entire “steering tube assembly & clutch”. The clutch has a single broken tooth on it.
Excellent video, best explanation of the 360 drive belt an clutch system yet.
I agree! I just received my new PA 14 360 XR and I'm happy to better understand the new and improved features!

Thank God I found this video thank you so dam much.
Thanks for watching!
I have a question can the regular 360 drive fit in the 360XR ?
Yes the drive has not changed. For instance a 2023 360 drive would fit in the new 2024 360XR.

@@DaleWyman Yikes, sorry to hear that. Hopefully they get that all taken care of for you.
Is there a way to tighten the clutch on the xr
I believe it is similar to how we adjusted the clutch on the old 360’s with the machine screw in the drive well.
Looked at one today im fucked lol 😅
I think you just talked me out of buying a Hobie Pro Angler 360
How? This makes me feel tens time better. You literally can't get stuck out there
