The ranking is honestly pretty well put together with no placement feeling unnatural. Concistency, important h2hs, attendance and big wins were all fairly making an impact to finally encourage attending more for the top players. mang0, Hbox and aMSa are pretty much interchangeable on their positions and the top 5 just feels earned. The HM was the best way to handle Leffen's lack of attendance and i'm just so happy that Aklo and moky have debuted in the top cut. Looking forward to this new era of the game starting with Genesis!
I remember asking Cody on a nuzlocke stream he was doing what he felt he'd have to do to get number one and overtake Zain right after Smash Con, and he directky said that unless Zain flopped at an event or two, he didn't think it was possible for him to overtake Zain in the rankings... Then Big House happened, and Shine haopened. Suddenly, it was app possible and he didn't let the opportunity pass him by
2023 was such an exciting year for Melee. Jmook looking like the clear favorite at the very beginning, to Zain reasserting his dominance midway, to Cody just pulling up to give Zain the tightest race for #1, in their climatic FT10. 2024 Melee will be sick.
Moky attended way more but imo plup should have been 4. He def could have won BH11 as well but moky was super consistently at majors so idk he earned it with his h2h I think.
No wins vs top 3 and played every other top player either 1 or 0 times except amsa and wizzy. Yeah he wont a major but if you actually look at who each player beat, Moky ahead isn’t really crazy. it’s mega close but Plup’s attendance hurts him a lot
Great video as always. What are Cody's prospects for sponsorship? I know he gets support from the community as a streamer but I also remember him saying he would quit by the end of the year last year if he didn't get picked up. Has that changed?
"No I love Mike McCarthy he's the best. I think he's the best coach in football right now. We're onward and upward we're going to win it all next year." The best Skip quote in weeks. Skip's best quotes are when he make a quick side quip like that lol.
"Anyone can achieve their dreams if they put in the work." Correction. Anyone but Hax can achieve their dreams if they put in the work. If the TOs don't like you, they'll go on a BS political campaigns to cancel you from competing in tournaments. Fuck melee, its already dead.
@zachwatson8336 Hax had clear as day conditions to be slowly reintigrated into the scene, conditions that he and his local TO's both had an agreement on, local TOs who know him personally for about a decade now and told him not just once or twice that he should stop addressing his ban situation and just play Melee for now. He broke these obvious rules twice before he was perma banned with one of those ban appeal videos leading to such a ugly degree of mass harassment towards Leffen that he didn't feel safe entering Big House last year and the NYC Melee staff already being very much ready to pull the plug on Hax had he not apologized for it after they got various amounts of harassment too. I'm tired of this baseless conspiracies you people throw at human beings who you know little to nothing about so here's a constructive response for you if you care so much about Hax. "If TO's don't like you, they'll go on a BS political capaign to cancel you from competing tournaments." Question. Do you understand who Hax the person even is and why he got banned? He was one of the head TOs of the Tristate Melee scene and very close to the playerbase and other TOs for years as their star player until as he admitted himself the pandemic, a alcohol additiction and general depressive state of mind lead him to make these evidence.zip videos in the way they are. He had a fair point that Leffen was not really taking accountability of his past actions as a past bullying victim of his but took it way too far and turned this whole thing into a concerning schizophrenic conspiracy narrative with Leffen being some kind of super manipulator. Hax's close NYC circle aswell as generally every seperate TO team knew that he wasn't in the right state of mind during that time and that he could not be kept around others with a guarentee for safety and therefore, banned him. Spreading conspiracies about other community members with mental amounts of reaching and paranoia to harm the image of a player is a lot more of a political campaign than just keeping a player banned i would say so explain me how you're not holding onto a double standard that not even works in this situation. Hax was given a second chance from NYC Melee by getting allowed to participate in the local events again after he seemingly slowly woke up from his delusions but never cut and took back his conspiracy video's content and artifically forced himself to "show remorse" to get quickly reinstated and therefore the NYC TOs made the agreement that Hax would stop addressing the ban situation to his audience if he wanted to return. The only thing you can point the TOs at for is the slow speed that they operated on since every scene is run seperately and therefore this whole unban discussion situation took way too long. Hax made the most braindead choice with posting that ban appeal video, that brought up the whole situation again and talks for about 90% what Leffen all did wrong 10 years ago, instead of actually focusing more on why he himself is a positive influence that should be reinstated. One of the NYC Melee TOs was even at the weekly Nightclub tourney to discuss the perma ban and it's reasons with the local scene where this discussion belonged way more than it ever did on the internet for y'all parasocial fans who don't even know the man Aziz personally. Hax's ban appeals should have gone into the private DMs of the TO teams where they would be talking like adults instead of being these huge drama fueling public videos every time that push disgusting amounts of harassment towards these people. It's a TO's call on who gets to play at the tourney just like a club owner decides who's on the white or black list for the party and Hax's tendency to ignite controversy after controversy for the scene being disliked isn't some kind of mega corruption behind the curtains but just not welcomed by the majority of organizers at their events. Lastly people like you who keep spreading this unneeded drama made everything worse for Aziz's chances to be fully welcomed back and if you truly cared about his well being you would have accepted that all of this conspiracy bs has not been doing himself or anyone around him especially his local scene any good, kept your grypes with thing xyz to yourself in silence or would have answered with constructive criticism instead of spreading baseless assumptions and narratives around the web. If there wasn't a giant toxic audience that launched themselves at anyone related to this situation, this whole fiasco would have been so much easier for all the orginanizers who had a saying in this to accept Hax's return. Leffen sure deserved huge amounts of criticism but the overemotional, unconstructive and generally unhinged behavior you Hax people have shown time and time again to everyone from Leffen, TOs and other community headfigures has only soured real discourse in this scene. Reflect on your own behavior before you start pointing fingers at people who you only know from your computer screen. Nothing is simply black or white and it would greatly improve the community at large when actual respectful discussions happen again.
