      Why is the principle of owning a person as property "immoral" as an absolute? What if the alternative was that the person was saved from starvation in Africa -- i.e., improved their well-being? What if the person actually wanted that alternative to a short life of painful suffering? Dillahunty, as a devotee of Sam Harris, should love that scenario, instead of doing his usual bellowing bullying of anyone who dares to disagree with him.

    • @goalski134
      @goalski134 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@David_Span are you genuinely asking what is wrong/immoral about owning another human being as property? honestly? if someone can have their situation improved by being a slave, that is STILL IMMORAL EXPLOITATION by the slave owner. the work they are doing can still be completed without ownership being required. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @David_Span
      @David_Span 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goalski134 Well, you begin bordering on an ad hominem attack on my genuineness; you continue with a BARE ASSERTION of IMMORAL EXPLOITATION (which at best could be seen as a strawman, as in my scenario the person AGREES to it); and you end with a false dilemma fallacy -- so you would let people die because of some arrogant perfectionist ideal? Sorry, the world isn’t perfect. The goal is WELL-BEING, as Dillahunty sprouts ad nauseum, obeying the decree of Our Lord Sam. My scenario achieves it IN SPADES. What gives you (or Dillahunty) the right to arrogantly dictate how someone should view their own well-being?

What the "God of the Gaps" teaches us about science. It's when God is invoked to fill in the gaps of scientific knowledge, but God haters, or "atheists" if you prefer, claim "I don't know is a perfectly acceptable answer" violating their own most precious law. I don't make hypothetico-deductive arguments to persuade my mentally challenged opponents, i make deductive ones. He, like so many frustrating pricks who call, isn't actually equipped to have philosophical discussions of this kind, he just thinks he is. And when Matt questions & responds in ways Jeremy doesn't understand, he doesn't say "I didn't understand that" and ask questions until he does understand it, he just nods and says "uh-huh" and then continues on his BS. It's infuriating. These little shits don't discuss and address questions in the format that is presented to them, which is superior to their kindergarten reasoning. They impotently or stubbornly stick to their format of discussion and reasoning, which to be frank, IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. You will not get to proper logical conclusions for the kinds of subjects discussed on this show, with the reasoning capabilities from average education. If the most of Jeremy's serious education is a high school diploma from an average school in the US, then he's not going to have the first clue how to properly approach these subjects. That sounds pretentious & condescending, but when we agree by majority in our society that general education is lacking and needs to be better, there is no way average jerkoff Jeremy has a necessary understanding of philosophy and logic, to have a philosophical and logical discussion. How do we know this? Because philosophy and logic aren't compulsory in average education!!!! They're specialized and most people don't get instructed education on this until they get post-secondary education.
      Unless Jeremy studied these subjects on his own (I'll bet every cent I have that he hasn't) then he doesn't know them. There are hallmarks that would indicate that a person is learned in these subjects and Jeremy, and all callers like him, do not exhibit those hallmarks. If you don't have even a cursory understanding of these ideas, then you shouldn't even open your useless mouth to an empty room, let alone other people. Jeremy hasn't put in nearly enough work to have earned a justified opportunity to talk to other human beings about philosophy and logic, and realizing this and being ashamed of that is all he deserves until he puts in the work.

Which puts me In a vulnerable position to Basically have faith that this entity who has the currency or the access to a telescope that they say can view the surface of Mars ... basically what I’m saying is because you were not in NASA or because you are not in the government you are in the position of believing what someone else tells you which these two entities have been on record in proving to be liars in multiple situations so what logical thinking person would believe anything that these two entities will say...

    1. Physics was created.

Also im sure a lot of people think the same way(why i said probably shouldn't, i know a lot of people still will) but fail to realize that their children will have a mind of their own and the right to make their own decisions and inevitably will, regardless of if its what anyone else including their parents want them to. A parents job is to try and guide their children in the right direction of what they think is correct, but the point of me saying this is anyone who is afraid of the possibility that another human being might not see life the same way or agree with the same things and is willing to inflict harm on another person over that whether its their children or not and whether its physical or mental harm inflicted due to that way of thinking, should not be having kids.

Not to mention every other month we have to worry about a new possible war, or some new disease thats in danger of destroying the human race, if someone doesnt see the world and their own lifes current status as in a place where they are ready to bring a child into this world who is anyone else to tell them they are wrong? Personally i would applaud someone for having the brains to piece that all together and decide that it is best they did not have the child as opposed to someone else who doesnt take any of that into account and says well im going to do it anyway because a book says its wrong, but those people are totally free to make that choice for themselves too, bottom line is it isnt up to me or anyone else to decide for them and i dont think it applies the same as saying something along the lines of okay you decided to have a child with all of those things in mind, go ahead and kill them if they dont agree with your beliefs, i think thats jumping to a very different irrational extreme.

    Dude... Matt is a warrior philosopher of fucking epic proportions.
    I really miss listening to him cut through bad logic. I have been missing because of my thesis.
    What makes him so epic, is that he holds onto his arguments so well, that no one can compete. I think I'm pretty good at peacefully making a case against most of these arguments, but if these arguments get heated, my thoughts get intertwined and I may get lost.
    Matt is like the Achilles of rational thinking. Even under the highest levels of stress, he can continue swinging his sword and spear taking down all the false thought processes like Trojans with their pants down.

      I shall avail you of something else you may not be aware of which is a very useful argument to use against our godies. When they asked me how I can have any morals without God, I tell them about the research, which says the secular countries of the world at the lowest crime rates, and in the US, The highest crime rates are attributed to the heaviest religious states. 1:22 I have to disagree there at that point. Why is it insufficient to admit, that I just dont know and I am opened to be proven either way? I dont know, if something so ridiculous as Bigfoot exists, does not mean, it cannot exist. It may be unlikely and I for sure dont wanna wrap my life around religion based off of it, but "I dont know" is a valid answer to yes or no question. There should be no shame in admiting, that you just dont fucking know something. If someone asks me, if I believe, that god of any kind exists, why is it wrong to say, that I am unconvinced and therefore to live my life as if there is none, but I am still opened to the idea? AKA I dont know.
