I have used the fine point masking fluid. I have found that you can take the entire needle point assembly apart in order to clean it. Just rinse each part with cool water. You have to do it immediately and I even blow air (my breath) through the needle itself to make sure no mask remains. After reassembly, I put Saran Wrap over the bottle and screw the cap/needle assembly back on tightly over the plastic wrap. This has worked for me…I’ve learned through a several dried up needles to be proactive…so far, I’ve been able to actually use a bottle up and not have to grow it away after only a few uses.
The lighting in this one gives the scene a summer sparkle. It feels fresh as a breeze as if one were there observing.I am looking forward to seeing the Acadia coast in September.Hope to get some reference pix.
A wonderful painting & tutorial! Thank you for the discussion about the "harmony of colors" used throughout the painting. Something to ponder as I try to paint :). Also, thank you for showing your reference photo as the painting develops. I always find that interesting.
Another great tutorial, Rick. Putting small dark values in really helps the total look. You just reminded me what I need for a painting I made a "hot mess" of last night. I'll go put some darker marks in and it might just save the painting.
I love, love, love this painting and tutorial. We have been trying to get to Acadia for a couple years now maybe this fall it will finally happen. Do you recommend a particular brand of masking tape over another? What size and brand is your small liner brush used for the small detail works toward the end? TIA Rick :)
Hi Priscilla, I use 3M contractors grade #2020CG to mount my paper. I list my brushes and other supplies on the studio page of my website. Here is the link: rsurowiczart.com/studio/
Just found your channel Rick. (Subscribed) I have just started to learn watercolours myself (maybe a bit late in life, now 75) and your beginner videos are a god send to me, I have watched others but was not too impressed with there presentation, anyway, what I'm trying to say is, love your channel, and keep them vid's coming. do you have a vid on mixing grey's ? cant find one. really like the colours you use as well, bright and fresh. thanks from the UK.
I'm glad you like my channel ! The only video I have related to mixing grays is a beginning watercolor tip "How to make mud". Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/DVS7tfnBRT4/w-d-xo.html
If you follow this link to the studio page on my website you will see all the supplies I use. My masking supplies are about halfway down the page. I use a removable masking fluid called "incredible white mask" . I remove it with a rubber cement pickup eraser to reveal the white of the paper.
