    The 12 is sold in abundance here in South Africa. In fact they say that South Africa is one of the reasons why the 12 year old became scarce because of how much it is bought here. However it is still available here on the shelves. The 12 and the founders are both great whiskys.

    I like your point how if you sell a lot of blends, this is a good step up. I like to sell this drop as an introduction to a single malt. Being in a commercial based business this works well. Not my favourite single malt, but not the worst either.

    Bought this last Christmas with a voucher I received from work. Wish I’d put a bit more towards it and bought a Sherry cask whiskey rather than this.
    It’s not a terrible whisky but I find myself drinking it to finish the bottle off rather than drinking it because I enjoy it.

    This was my gateway to Whisky. I think I still prefer it over the 12 and Distiller´s reserve. Gonna buy me a bottle as soon as I get home from Spain (Will look for some more expensive stuff in the tax free on my way home)…. I’m very new to Whisky, so looking forward to this journey 😊

    It's 2019 and I picked up a bottle of Glenlivet 12yr in South Africa at a price only slightly higher than Glenfiddich. I didn't realize it is in short supply and here I am drinking it nightly.

    I bought a small bottle since it's always on sale and all i remember was a strong taste of apricots with a little bit of old leather. Not very good but it is passable it you like fruity flavours with that light creamy finish.

    • @magicsteve5523
      @magicsteve5523 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer the 12 but I honestly think the differences are pretty marginal, the Founders Reserve tastes a wee bit younger and less complex to me but that’s about it, I can honestly take either or.

    Very good alongside dark chocolate.

  • @brianmcphee506
    @brianmcphee506 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yes, your take was very similar to mine. I felt the flavours I got were almost false, and used to mask the youth of the whisky and the ethanol kick. It’s such a shame as it’s clearly aimed at mass production.

  • @Cypeq
    @Cypeq 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    It should be priced alongside older blends because it's that good even for young age... same as monkey shoulder.
    Yet again I see it priced at 10-12 year old malts range... which is a joke, It frequently costs on par with Glenfiddich 12.. no go sorry. I really hope they reconsider pricing.

  • @RatafakTehPlachta
    @RatafakTehPlachta 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i find this one okay. you cant taste the barrel like for example auchentoshan /sorry im a whisky noob havent drank much/, but the fresh fruitiness, pears, lemony notes, and toffee in the background make it smooth and kinda pleasant to drink. nothing too complex, earthy, woody, peaty, i would say the flavor profile is kinda close to a irish whiskey actually, with its user friendliness, but there is nothing wrong with that. you are right about the character being a bit bland and lacking from the lack of maturing. but its decent nonetheless

  • @barelyfree9427

  • @LuisSanchez-lc9wb
    @LuisSanchez-lc9wb 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    how do you get by the alcohol smell and pick uip on the different notes. i am new to Scotch. i like Glenlivet 15, i like Macallan 12, i love Glenmorangie 12 year LaSanta Sherry Cask Finish... but how do i get better at smelling and tasting differences in scotch.. i have tried adding a tiyn bit of water and it deff helps with the tasting and the palate i guess its called... teach me to nose and taste.

    • @brianmcphee506
      @brianmcphee506 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Louie Reviews Glenmorangie is a great start. Personally, to defeat the ethanol kick use a few ml’s of spring water. Not much at all, just enough to release the flavours. Aim your nose and palate to pick up on the sweet parts first. For example with Glenlivet the first thing I always pick up on is the vanilla and caramel. Also, 5 seconds after swallowing pay particular attentions to what you pick up in the aftertaste. So when starting out; pay particular attention to nose, first taste and aftertaste.

  • @TheSuperTrickey

  • @Timmorrisjr
    @Timmorrisjr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It’s decent and smooth, but being used to the Glenlivet 18, it’s definitely not top notch. Still, it’s a good “everyday” scotch.

    Spent the evening sipping on this and despite the quite harsh review... the whiskey is far from that... very enjoyable ... picked it up for 30euro (reduced from 42irl) and for that price a very tasty lil sipper that's not gonna break the bank.. the experience has been good.. looking forward to having more tomorrow..😉 (u gave Proper12 a better review than this and while I refuse to buy that piss I have no doubt this is better and I'm no whiskey expert)

    I like the 12yo, it's a very nice daily dram, after hearing this I think it's a shame it will be missing.. for now in Italy there's still plenty of 12yo so I hope my country won't be touched by this switch to the Founder's reserve.
    I have a question, how do you compare this to the Master Distiller's Reserve (the NAS for the travel retail, you've reviewed that one in July 2014)? I know the casktypes are rather different (there's sherry in the MDR) but although it being a NAS I quite like it anyway even if it's younger than many other whiskies I like.

    ithought i just got as bad bottle but your getting similar results there's an out of date type taste to it i feel like pair thats sat for too long and very weak for 40% im relitivly new having only tried this jack daniels no 7 glenfiddich 12 and johnny walker red label and they all taste stronger even if i put water in but anyhow i wanted to ask if you could do an english review on the glenlivet 25 xxv i see you have one up in german so im headed there now

    I feel fortunate that the 12yo Glenlivet will be available in the US. I also live and work in China and I still see the 12yo available here. Thank you Horst for reviewing this and keeping us all informed on the latest installments. After watching this I did look for articles on this very product and the fate of the 12yo. I also enjoy the 15yo.
    If I had the income my staple Glenlivet (of choice) would be the 16yo Nadurra. I hope you (Horst) will review the 16yo Nadurra, especially the cask strength, because I would be interested in what you think of it.

    This whisky at the very most is 8 years old, why because when it's on offer you can get it for minimum £18-22, if it was older then they could knock so much off the price.

If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig!
