Yes 100%. The biggest thing for me was during my practice pad session I would use many different surfaces. Top 3 for tom feel would be Zildjian reflex practice pad, drum throne seat and pillows. Hope that helps.
Typically it’s easier to play doubles on the smaller toms, since the heads are much tighter than say the floor tom. With this exercise, which is awesome btw, try starting the 2 singles on your hats (par-a) and then move to your 8” or 9” tom for the doubles (diddle diddle) and ending on your snare. Still the same concept, but you’re using much firmer surfaces and making it a bit easier to slay the doubles on your high tom and snare.
