    Great video! I was disappointed with what I made yesterday, as the new K1 didn't move. I even tried making another and changing the amount of K1. Was relieved to see that is normal. Thank you.

    Really nice to see a new filter and an old - sometimes people freak out when theirs doesn't look like the old ones

    I'm actually filtering my 50 gallon pond with one of these. I hybridized it with a sponge filter on the bottom as a prefilter and additional biological and mechanical filtration.

      I'd be interested in seeing how you put it together. I have a larger pond and was considering creating something like this with a milk jug or similar sized container

    This. This is the one I’ve been looking for! Would a 2 liter with the one liter of K1 be a sufficient size for a heavily stocked/50ish% planted tank? I have a tidal110, fx4 & sponge filter running now for good measure. lol but i was considering using a 2.5 or 5 gal bucket honestly for my moving bed 😅

    The only thing I would add, roll a newspaper into a funnel. Stick into the top of the bottle. Less clean up. This what I'm doing with the MAB K-1. I've done this with PERLER beads too. Haven't had to clean that in 9 months. Great vid.

    these really only work in a sump and you need 1 liter per 10 US gallons best only for pond filters like nexus best to fill the bottle with pumice stone like matrix it has more surface area

    Great video, built mine right after i uploaded my unboxing video. mine was much smaller. think i will build a 2 liter filter this weekend for my 36g. would this work in a new tank to help getmit cycling? i have a 75g project im working on. still working out what filtration i need to get for it. but now that i have the k1 i was wondering how it work in a new twnk forthe cycling process.

    • @gregjonesonline
      @gregjonesonline  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      k1 takes quite a while to cycle, so it's best to put it in an established tank and then transfer it to a new tank after it is broken in

    nice video. but - from my (older) literature about aquariums i learned that filter-bacteria dont like two things: 1) light and 2) air - so how does that fit in to the shown filter, where they get blown up with constant air bubbles all day and night?

    • @jj680l
      @jj680l 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your literature is incorrect. The bacteria are aerobic. Light is harmless unless it has UV.

    So how long have you been running these and have they remained self-cleaning or do they eventually need some maintenance? I notice you do not have any kind of sponge prefilter, Do you still build them this way? (and thank you sooooo much for the tip at the end, I could not figure out what I'd done "wrong" on a build until your video!)

    I've got one of these set up, but I'm not sure it is working. I keep watching little bits of detritus drift past the water intake hole. Doesn't seem to be any water going in, just bubbles coming out.
    3.5lpm air pump running to a 650ml bottle 2/3 full of k1. Five holes in the top. One near the bottom. Didn't drill holes in the bottom, but the cap is off (was going to put a sponge there).
    I just don't understand how we can biofilter the water when there seems to be no water flowing through the media.
    Seems like lpm of bubbles going out = lpm of air coming in with no need for water to do anything but get out of the way.
    How is it supposed to work?

    • @gregjonesonline

      +enticed2zeitgeist it needs to gently tumble in order to self-clean, otherwise it will get plugged up and won't work
