Fretless Friday 14- Cripple Creek

- Happy Fretless Friday! Hope you're all doing well! I went for a nice simple tune this week, because between this doggone parrot puppet and my shed remodel, I haven't had a lot of spare time. Both projects are going quite well though!
Also, like I said in the video, comment any favorite chicken breeds you have that I should take into consideration! It would be nice to find a chicken that enjoys being in videos; I feel like Toto and Billina are only here for the food, and Squidward hardly ever shows up. Ozma really was a remarkable chicken; it would be cool to find another one that could carry on her legacy.

Takes me back to 1967. The Air Force sent me to Turkey for 15 months. Of course, I took my banjo with me. Landed at the airport and the Turkish customs man said, "Play it." They wanted to make sure I wasn't bringing my banjo to Turkey to sell it. So, I took it out of the case, tuned it up and played "Cripple Creek" clawhammer-style, and then Scruggs-style. As I played about 20 people crowded in to see the American play the banjo. Well, since I had an audience, I gave them a little concert. "Wildwood Flower," "Foggy Mountain Breakdown," and a few others. Then, I put the banjo back into its case and headed out to find a taxi. I was just 21 years old back then. Thanks for playing for us!
😂 Love the story! Thanks for sharing. Funny how customs tries to think of what people might be up to. Not sure I'd want to live my life being suspect of everyone... but hey... 🤷♂️
Sweet story! Be the lead actor, not just background extra! 🎉
When colleagues ask me what music I listen to...
"well, its complicated ...."
I totally know what you mean. But this is sure a part of it now. 🤜
Thank goodness for fretless Fridays
Even on Saturday
That slide at 2:20 is EXTREME!
Earl Scruggs, Pete Seeger, Steve Martin, Phoebe Sanders. In that order.
Mount Rushmore LOL
I love fretless Friday. When I was studying mandolin, my instructor let me play his fretless mandolin, and it was fun and different.
Fretless Friday are my favorite!
Polish chickens are nice with the tall feathers on thier heads. Very photogenic lol. I enjoy your playing, Thank you
Squidward the silky 😍
as a person with no knowledge of chickens, but a great love for Stardew Valley, I'm all for more chickens!
Thanks, Doc Phoebe! This is exactly what I needed today 💜🎵🐔
rhode island reds are great....wonderful and friendly
I love gold laced wyandottes. Great and beautiful breed.
And gentle to boot.
Delightful show as usual, thank you
I’m all in on the barred rock 😊
I love barred rocks. They are so friendly....
Always look forward to your uploads😊
Very cool
Best thing I've done today
😊😊😊 - ducks are nice pets too!
Very nice, thank you! Bantam cochins and silkies for the win! I love them all, but these are my favorites.
Love this Phoebe! We look forward to Fretless Friday❣️❣️❣️🪕🪕🪕🪕🪕🪕🪕🪕🪕🪕🪕🪕🪕🪕
Even numbers are a good idea, new chickens sometimes have a difficult time entering an existing flock, the boss ( and there always is one, rooster or hen) doesn't always except new members to the flock....
Orpingtons are my favorite. Speckled Sussex are sweet too. ❤
Chick, chicks, Bok bok bok! LOL! Thank you for sharing your banjo playing gift!
Only thing more entertaining thah watching your hands is watching the expressions you make, too adorable!
Everything I know about chickens I learned from KFC, but for birds NOT on the dinner table I like the looks of the Polish crested. Keep it fretless!🥰
Polish are beautiful
I once had some Araucana chickens, they laid colored eggs. They are a smaller hen, blue green eggs!! I'm already fretting about next Friday!!! 😊😊
Fretless Friday has Phoebe enjoying her feathered friends frolicking . Great banjo playing !
Phoebe I enjoy how expressive you are while you play, when you hit the key, you were looking for your smile could melt snow.
What a Great play! Greatings from the Countryside of Germany 😊🇩🇪. I love Banjo music. It’s so happily. Myself play Accordion🪗 and the harmonica. Have all a Great day
"Bellina's in the Mint Bush" would be a cool banjo tune!
Thanks for the tune! Our neighbor has French Marans - the rooster has a beautiful multi-color "Chanticleer" look, and the eggs are very dark brown.
Very good Performance, great live Video
I cannot fret anymore.
Gold and/or Silver Laced Wyandottes.
Those are beautiful
Cripple creek sounds the best when it's fretless😊
CC sounds great on the fretless.
Fretless Friday is always something to look forward to, but a Phoebeless week has got me fretting just thinking about it!
"🎶 What would a Friday beeee without my purdy Phoebeee playin that banjo just for meeeee.....
Ima gonna tell you what it will be without my purdy Phoebe playin fo mee...
Why nuthin short of misereeeee would a Friday be without my purdy Phoebe strumming her banjo just for meeeee.... (Oh and her chickens too or three.... "🎶
My sister had chickens, they were therapeutic to listen to
Great playing. I love the yellow gate.
Pheobe! I know nothing about banjo playing. I have little to no interest in banjo playing. But TH-cam popped you into my recommendations and I absolutely love listening to you. I hope you don't mind me saying but as you play, your face is like a constant critique of your playing and it is helping me hear the intricacies and technicalities of banjo playing. Helps me appreciate all the hard work and craft of the instrument.
Also thank you so much for repeating your recording. So annoying having to record something twice but you kept up the energy and totally delivered.
Much love from Bristol, UK.
Nice catch! I noticed the same thing about her face, and as a banjo/guitar player myself I can totally relate.
Phoebe, it happens - no worries :)
Love fretless friday
An hidden gem you are!
Perfect! Thanks.
Take care have a great weekend ❤
I do have a chicken impediment but lovin’ me some Fretless Friday Phoebe ❤️🔥
More chicken = more better.
What a week. Before you know you won’t be able get in the door of general store you live in. You’ll have Japanese banjos, sitars, a stand up ukulele and one of those big triangle balalaika… The first sweater looks like it might have been used in the original Planet of the Apes movie.
A Chick Quintet. Excellent.
Goin' up Cripple Creek goin' in a run
Goin' up Cripple Creek to have some fun!
I Looove Fretless Friday!!!
Have a great weekend!
Hey, hey!! That was great! Enjoy your nap!
Phoebe you make Fridays great you are so talented you cheer us all❤️❤️❤️🎶👍🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🦮🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Nice sound . . . .
Buff Brahmas would be a perfect match for your videos. We’ve had them and Barred Rocks in our tiny flock over the years.
Thank you Phoebe. I look forward to your Fretless Fridays. I think that I will get through ok without seeing you next Friday. I get to watch your videos a day late due to the time difference in Australia. We are ahead of the U.S. I will be playing my washboard with a band tonight. :)
You need a pork pie hat, girl. You would really rock a pork pie hat!
PS: this is by far the best fretless show you’ve done.
PPS: hope you have fun at camp. Yeah, learning new stuff is important, but the primary reason for going to a banjo camp should be to have fun. So have a ball!
CHICKEN BOMB! Love it.
Thanks for the banjo serenade, Phoebe. Have fun at camp. Barred Rock & Plymouth Rock chicken breeds come to mind. I'm thinking that it is more important that any new chickens grow to the same size as the Toto & Galena, not smaller, not bigger. Good Luck.
Be Well.
Great playing! And my favorite chickens I had were Millie Fleur d'Uccle bantams and crested polish. Both varieties were great 👍
Hello phoebe
Keep smiling and play your banjo
Oh love those chickens
Dayum just found this channel and it's a gift. Thank you.
My favorite version of Cripple Creek now.
Thank you, Phoebe.
Wyandottes are my personal favorite chickens. They're gorgeous birds! Also your playing is marvelous as usual. You really really make me want to get a banjo!
I think maybe Cripple Creek was created just for your fretless banjo. 👍💕♥️😇
Another great Fretless Friday! Doc, I still have to watch your 25K special. My wife and I are moving, and have been crazy busy. I look forward to seeing it soon! Have a great time at banjo camp! Love you! ❤❤❤❤❤
Heck ya
Always a great old tune! Woke way to early and had to stretch my old bones. Now the old mind is stretched so I'll get more sleep with a happy mind. Thanks for the tune. You should sing sometime.
Always a pleasure to welcome the weekend with you showing off some major skills.
Barnevelder are beautiful chickens 🐔
Oh no! I'll miss Ozma :( In my experience, the Phoenix breed of hens is always super duper friendly without being too pushy or rude. Mine follow me everywhere! Beautiful banjo playing
Bellina in the mint bush is so precious 🐔 🤩
I don't know that one, could you hum a few bars?
buff Orpingtons are my favorite for the disposition and being excellent yard birds with Gold laced Wyandottes as my runner up. Plymouth (barred) rock are a bit more aggressive. Not as aggressive as Rhode Island Reds or Black Australorpes... then can be down right mean. Gold lace Wyandottes are nice but Silver lace Wyandottes are bullies like Rhode Islands. Silkies are nice too and so are "Easter Egger" type Auracanas or "Americanas", they have the fluffy cheeks. Mostly its what you want to look at. They will establish a pecking order on their own terms regardless of breed.
Thanks for the music. Red Broiler or Cornish Cross, though I might be thinking with my stomach again.
You can't just casually throw in your dog at the end and not show us more! They're adorable!
These videos always make me smile! 😊
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
The gate adds a nice pop of color to the chill backyard scene.
Super fun Fretless Friday today!
Well done Pheeb
I am a banjo player. This was great. Picked it up right away, more or less
No fretless Friday, I'll be in withdrawal!
I needed that. Thank you
Sebrights I think theyre called, theyre really cool. Thanks Phoebe for fretless Fridays. Youre a champ
Lol, I have to go to Instagram to see this parrot now. Fretless Friday is fast becoming my favorite fixture of my final work day.
Chickens crowing on sourwood mountain...
Every time you slid, I heard a whistling. At first, I thought the birds were perfectly in tune.
It's not so much tone. The problem with chickens is they can't clap on the 1 and the 3.
Oh, I almost went into panic stations there but thank goodness, I'd booked a week off the same week there'll be no Fretless Friday. I'm not sure how I'd cope with a week of work followed by _nothing_ to look forward to! Enjoy banjo camp!
That sounds great! Seems like you're really getting comfortable with fretless! Happy Friday!
That's the way a banjo ought to sound, sliding into the notes!
Just woke up from my nap and enjoyed my fretless Friday jam😁
Whoa! What happened at 2:20? That was AWESOME!
So, week after next, I will have a Fretful Friday, because it won't be fretless.
I think the performances with your fretless banjo are the ones I like the most!... In addition to being outside in the fresh air with your animals... A cordial greetings from Madrid (Spain)!!!... Have a wonderful weekend Phoebe!...
I'm still waiting for those pretty hens to add their own vocals to the banjo playin'! 😊
Ohhhh! Gettin' really slidey!
