Back in about 1967 I built a Flexo Big bear Scrambler minibike. (very small) It had a Mac-75 with stuffer manifold, 12:1 high compression head gasket, DUAL carbs, with straight pipe. I had a 10:1 gear ratio, (Chain) It had a centrifugal clutch that engaged at 4,000 RPM. It sounded raggedy until you hit maybe 8,000 RPM(?) Then it leaned out and SCREAMED. I always regretted not using progressive linkage which would have opened one carb at first, then the other one as you increased the twist-grip. (More low-end torque.) I told my friend, "Now ease on the throttle real slow, or it will throw you on his ass!" I did a demo and everything. He got on it went ten feet and it threw him on his ASS! LOL!! GREAT video. Good to see these engines again!
I raced a kart like that on dirt back in the 1980's. It had been modified with a Briggs & Stratton 4 stroke engine and the rear wheels were replaced with the wider wheels of the time. It was quick and I spent a lot of time driving straight sideways too!
I went to this event with my cousin on a Sunday and we had a very nice time. I was amazed that the Fremont track has not changed since I last raced there back in 1965. Some of the vintage karts were spot on as they ran back then; and then some were using creative license to get the job done--regardless, it was fun to see. Enjoyed exchanging information with the vintage karters about their builds.
takes me back to my teen years we raced from 1958 to the late 80s early90s the Harmon bro.
Must be still a good supply of vintage tires.Good thing!
Love it !
Just Mack Zacky sign on Kart trailer of my neighbors. Is Mack Z famous?
cool
Does no one remember an unlimited class than ran nitro-methane? My dad
raced this class in the early to mid 60's. I see no evidence that the
class ever existed on the web.
My uncle ran that class in a Dart Kart with 2 Power Products on Nitro Methane! Ran one with a centrifical clutch and the other direct drive! Some Scary Stuff went on!!....
2 dislikes from scooter riders
It would be interesting to compare a lap time with Lewis Hamilton lol

Recall reading a late-sixties (karting) book (titled “Karting”) by Leroi “Tex” Smith where he mentioned “exotic fuel” - which included *small* percentages of Nitro, e.g. 10%. Cautioned about getting greedy, as in it could burn down engines.
First published in mid-1970. Still available used for reasonable, if you shop around.
