Gothic is a masterpiece of a game. Nothing will ever come close to it.

@@FiodorTretyakov It isn't better and it doesn't hold that quality either. While Risen stands it's own ground, it has almost nothing that made previous Gothic 1 and 2 so special. It misses the point of what made them so great, and feels more like some holiday chore that PB had to do to show they were still good at making games (and they passed).
The Gothic 1 remake could use some of those ideas, such as implementing the arena fights in that manner.
While Gothic 2 improved upon countless number of aspects, but i feel like atmosphere in Gothic 1 was so much better. Being thrown without much of a purpose into harsh world with established factions was more interesting than hunting down dragons without a personality. While we did not have 5 skyrim releases at the time, for RPG players, dragons were already a bit of a tired thing.
Personal preference.
To me, Gothic 2 is a much better game (gameplay and story).
piranha bytes didnt want to add dragons to the game, but they asked players on a gothic forum what should they add to the sequel and everybody said dragons, so they did
I cant remember many RPGs, where I could face a dragon from 3d or 1st person perspective. Not from those times. But I like both games for different reasons. Gothic 2 have more layers and better balance throughout the game, Gothic 1 this great initial atmosphere which became a little weaker at the end. There is some middle stuff missing. But for me probably the best RPGs ever.
Sure g2 2002 and skyrim 2011 nearly 9 years later you should check your facts haha

So cool, that this might finally be released. I was at Piranha Bytes for a two week internship in september back then and play tested exactly this game. I remember vividly when the two towers were struck and all of the PB team got together for a moment. Oh the memories.

What I think is most interesting is that they tell a completely different story in the sequel. Like, the people of the swamp cam turned insane and the gurus turned into the seekers in gothic 2. In the sequel they just seem to have died or killed each other
I can confirm that the stealth kill would be insanely hard to balance. They added something similar to Returning mod for Gothic 2. If you sneak to something and attack it, you would deal 5x the dmg of your crit. It's so op, I stopped using it, because it felt like cheese. Especially in night, when most things are asleep, you can just sneak around the map and oneshot things.

The world deserves a new Gothic game, have you heard any distant rumours about something like this?
I would love a sequel, as well as a remaster (Nightdive style) of the trilogy, too (much more than the remake which was in the works, though it could bring positive attention to the IP if done right)... But I don't realistically expect that to happen, mainly regarding remasters. It makes me sad that gaming preservation has been so neglected by the industry. The "new" shouldn't replace the "old", as it tends to happen, as both can _coexist_peacefully_ ... And I don't mean just games. Oh well, we're in dire need of luck, mate; that's a niche franchise and it is what it is.

Btw the Gothic Sequel team has a Facebook account that posts the progress of the game and they make it. They also made AI-based Polish dubbing so if you don't like not having voice lines in the game that could solve the issue

It feels like the gothic 1: unreleased chapter. Gothic 1 feels like last chapters were rushed. There are some wierd dialog leftovers for example if you try to fight through the old camp + there is not much of story in the last chapters, just mob clearing
4:32- I think It is the original tower,that one which in "our" Gothic 2,that one on "Mining Valley", sorry I don't know the original name,played it in my language ( Polish),so I don't know how it is called in english.

they took characters and others from this and put it in notalgic edition mode in gothic 2. is fun mode and it doesnt change to much while still giving u something to do.

Well it turned out that the modders decided to clean their YT channel and FB profile but haven't said why. Only that they're still doing the project and it's going smooth. At least it's possible to download the mod. Also what version is the English version on? The polish version is on 2.21 now

You know what I just realized and now hate the most about that whole "publisher pushes devs to release unfinished games"? Often enough we get the impression that we would have to wait longer for a specific game, which ofc is true, however often left out/ forgotten is the fact that this is just that one game, while waiting for that to release we could've gotten that great game which was release 2 years ago, but was also unfinished and rather bad back then.
Let me phrase it differently:
Game X originally released 2000 unfinished would've been released 2002 finished.
Game Y originally released 2001 unfinished would've been released 2003 finished.
Game Z originally released 2002 unfinished would've been released 2004 finished.
And so on, you get my point. Ofc this is overly simplified and the distances may vary greatly (and the main point still stands that dev/publisher X can release another [unfinished] game by the time the original game would've been released, so they get ~double the income while saving on futher development on the first game).
It just hurts me that over the 20 years I've been a gamer I played so many games that were bad that could've been good, or good games that could've been great, even great games that could've been eternal masterpieces. And it just gets worse every year. Imagine living in a world where every game was developed to the maximum of its potential and got the time the devs needed. I don't pretend that like this, every game would end up great - like I said I just wish the devs had the chance to deliever on the full potential on their projects, and some games still remain bad because the devs lack creativity, vision, perseverance or simply the skill to create something epic. But never ever should a game that could've been otherwise better turn out badly because the devs "ran out of time", or should I rather say, out of money. However, the point has been proven by games like Witcher 3 (and consecutively Cyberpunk) that with enough time and dedication, a good game will earn that work put into it tenfold.

I was always a huge fan of the franchise. Even tried The Chronicles of Myrtana not long ago but its just too damn difficult to immerse back into a game with such outdated graphics and engine.
Which is why I was excited to learn THQ Nordic coming out with a remake. But then saw the demo and....well...
That remake looks like crap to be honest.

Damn man, you must have the ability to read my mind or something. Literally just a few minutes before you posted the comment, I was thinking about this topic in general.
You're absolutely right. I try to focus my content around positivity in general, while still trying to acknowledge and, if necessary analyse the negative things about games/topics I cover, especially if it's review/retrospective format. Keeping that balance is very important to me. Although I never try to force anything, whether is positive or negative, I just talk about what I experienced. It's usually very easy to notice bad stuff about...well, even the most critically acknowledged games, right? Some of it can be highly subjective when it comes to game design in general, and even if your negative argument hold some weight, it can still mean very little to an average gamer who wants to play a fun game. And fun itself is probably the most subjective thing. People also need to realise that every review or a critique video, is just the opinion of one individual, even if that individual has millions of views and subscribers, it doesn't matter. It's still just 1 person. But unfortunately, a lot of those TH-camrs are perceived as some sort of entities, rather than just 1 guy or a girl who happens to make videos about these topics.
But the thing is, if I'm already doing a video about something, it usually means that I like what I'm covering, that's not a secret. Unless it's a new game, and I'm trying to make a review about it on the release date or something, there are some exceptions obviously. I find it highly toxic and unproductive to focus your content on the negativity. Even if you're 100% right and 99% of people agree with the stuff you said in your video. It's just not healthy to be in that state of mind man, and it eventually takes a toll on you. That's my philosophy at least. Sure, I have a couple of videos where I was more negative than positive, but I can count them on my one hand. There needs to be a very strong reason for me to make a video that's predominantly negative. When it comes to that, the best approach would be to make it into a meme, or a funny video in general. I'm not taking about some legit issues we have in gaming like loot boxes and mtx, that shit should always be called out. I'm mostly referring to game critiques and game related topics within the game itself.
At the end, my goal is to entertain and inform people. Making what I want and not what I NEED is very important as well, if I want to try and have the best as possible content I can have on my channel. It's the only legitimate way to stay passionate about the content you're creating.

We can take something good out of virtually anything, even when we think the object of analysis itself is bad. Maybe a good idea buried somewhere which shouldn't be forgotten, maybe learning something out of the bad aspects themselves (how to improve them, for example). That's what's so compelling in channels such as yours: you're not only taking the time to analyze the negative aspects, but also to build something with your criticism on them. This approach shows that effort and forward-thinking went into the reviewing process. The popular _angry adult men yelling_ format merely "describes" (for the most part inaccurately) something through shock value. This isn't constructive in any way... It's simply empty, meaningless. Anyways, it's good to know that the comment made you glad, however you have only yourself to thank for that, as I was just giving feedback; that's the result of your own hard, passionate work, and I thank you for sharing it with us. Hey man, I played a couple of months ago, its a bit rough at the start, because its pretty old and janky, but once you get, you will fall in love. I played gothic 2. I also have to mention that there is a mod that make an prequel of gothic 1, it called chronicles of myrtana, this thing is a MASTERPIECE, I also dare to say that is even better than the gothic 1 and 2, or at least on the same level.

If you really new to the series , you can start with Gothic 2 gold and then back to Gothic 1
Gothic 1 has weird control scheme that turn many people off also English version has come cut content which require some modding to restore

Gothic games are fantastic too bad they don't have character creation or gender selection. Imagine a role-playing possibilities.
