This might legitimately be the best episode yet! I was riveted the entire time. Wes Chatham as a fan of and guide to acting is such an unexpected gem from this podcast.
I love Jason's POV on career and "success". The concept is so narrowly defined, and whether or not your career looks successful is about perspective- not everyone is measuring with the same stick. My life is full of incredible experiences, weird things I've learned to do, and serendipitous encounters with fascinating people, and while I definitely struggle sometimes financially I would never trade it for the comfortable monotony that defines the lives of many others.
Been a long time Sundance volunteer, it's 2002 and volunteers get in a few days before the fest starts for training. They always have a volunteer screening for us and that year it was "Narc". movie gets done and to our surprise the director Joe Carnahan an Jason Patric show up to do a Q&A for us....just us lowly volunteers, I mean, that never happens, they don't have to waste time on us, but they showed up and forever since the two have been aces in my book for taking that time.
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate these weekly videos and the format. It's like sitting down and listening in on a conversation and having the opportunity to take in a deluge of great information.
Spotify listener coming over to comment. Jason Patric was fantastic. He sets the bar really really high for guests now. That kind of smooth preparedness without being obvious was phenomenal. I was already a fan of some of his movies, but his thoughtfulness in seemingly everything he does has made me a fan of him specifically.
Wes, the sax player from Lost Boys is Timmy Cappello. There is an interesting show called Worn Stories and the episode Lost and Found features him. In it, he talks about that movie and the codpiece he wears. Check out the episode. He still has that codpiece!
Jason Patric is so intense and focused, everything he says is with deliberation. Rush was a massive favourite of mine but I didn't really see any of his other films apart from Lost Boys. I'm def going to watch them now though with added appreciation!
This was a great interview, folks! Glad to see him drop into the 'cast! The little details about his father's experiences in The Exorcist were amazing to hear.
I can't believe I missed this one when it aired, amazing episode! The Beast has been on my watchlist for too long, I loved hearing Jason speak about his experience in the industry and also speaking about his dad. Very down to Earth.
There are so many movies that come out each year. Most are forgettable but Sleepers definitely wasn't. It's the type of movie that sticks in your memory.
Shit! I've found a goldmine: Narc - great film. The Beast - great film. After Dark - great film. Jason Patric - top actor, and obviously a top bloke too. If you're ever in London, the first round is on me. Thanks guys. I came here looking for two blokes natter about The Expanse, and I've found so much more.
It’s interesting to hear Jason Patrick discuss the way he would choose material. Like Ty, I was an action movie junkie, but I also loved to find well made gritty, dark, emotional stories that were also about character. I always liked Jason Patrick because his films were something more, and had that substance that many of the other films I watched did not. Great interview guys.
That was amazing!! I truly enjoyed today's podcast! Listening to the call today took me back to the movies done in the 80's, looking back now? I totally agree, the actors and the movies had a more real, pure storytelling as in today's movies its like, where do you stick the latest addition of a marvel or DC character in? Now I got a list of movies to watch starting with The Beast! Thanks so very much for stopping by Jason!
"In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by his trade, and he carries the reminders of all the gloves that laid him down and cut him till he cried out, in his anger and his shame, 'I am leaving, I am LEAVING!' But the fighter still remains...."
although I confess my interest as a subscriber lies in the Expanse, it was interesting to meet Jason through this. I only saw a couple things with him so I had a lot to learn. And it's always lovely to see Wes so happy and fangirling over actors :)
I saw a new question and answer segment that wasn't under Ty and That Guy, seems there is now a Ty and That Guy Clips to go subscribe to. It's only been around a few days.
I stopped in the middle of this episode and went and watched The Beast. Wow, that movie was a trip. Very intense. It's a great war movie, great drama too. Everything was top notch. This movie should have gotten waaaaaaay more recognition.
Listening to the podcast version now, I saw Jason Patric in that championship season on broadway with Kiefer Sutherland and Brian Cox, really enjoyed it.
The watch would go faster if I wasn't looking up movies and scenes they are talking about. I need to revisit a few Jason Patric movies! Love this podcast. Whatever you want to talk about is fine with me. Haven't been bored yet! ;)
Can't say I've seen all of Jason Patric's movies but the ones I've seen have been great... apart from Speed 2 but I suppose not every movie can be a hit. Really enjoyed todays podcast, it's so interesting seeing these non-Expanse episodes with different actors and their different takes on their acting histories and the random bits of knowledge they drop. Keep it up Ty and Wes (and Clint).
Jason didn't mention whether or not he's ever watched (is a fan of) The Expanse. He's a pretty somber dude. Very good show and conversation. I really enjoyed hearing Ty talk about the influence of Rush.
Like I said before this doesn't have to be an expanse podcast. Just the fact that Jason has been in a lot of movies I have seen but didn't know him as an actor is amazing to me.
The Lost Boys is one of my Top 5 Favorite Movies of all time. Yeah I know it’s a silly vampire movie, but it is absolutely perfect in being what it is. It’s also the best vampire movie ever, and I will fight people over this fact. So happy to have it seriously discussed.
Loved this conversation. I'm embarrassed to say I had confused Jason Patric with Patrick Muldoon for some reason. Went back and watched The Beast again last night after watching the first half of this. Great film and great acting.
I loved The Lost Boys back in the day, I saw it in the theater twice when it came out, and I still love revisiting it. I wasn't as obsessed with it as I was with Poltergeist, but those two films are the only two films from the 80s that I purchased the soundtracks for on LP. I was a teenager with a rather modest allowance, so that was a big deal for me.
That was ‘Capital!’-getting a peak into the art of my film go-to’s in the 90’s was insightful. Great actor and honest career. So few make it through the meat gauntlet that is Hollywood. Living is hard enough to do without a camera. I love film, I love it….less these days due to hard earned cynicism ….so much respect to those that honor the art that film can be.
Love this interview rush was a great performance by Jason would like to see him in a gritty series get deep into a character. New sub loved this guy in the expanse didn't know know he's a veteran big respect' a gypsy king in the uk wishing you happy 🎅
What a great episode! Jason Patric was an amazing guest to listen to and I always love a chance to hear you guys talk about Conan the Sax Player in The Lost Boys! Now if you could just get THE MAN KURT RUSSELL for an interview I would be ecstatic!
Do you guys get ratings credit when I download a Ty & That Guy episode on my android app? Your show is great and I want to ensure you guys are getting as much support as possible.
Given all the conversation about looking for it the right thing, not just taking roles because you are supposed to, how do you not touch on what led to doing Speed 2??
My theory is that Sleepers is a true story, just not an American one. Where it is really about kids being sent to a Canadian Residential School. Because a story that takes place in Montreal that happens to First Nations kids isn't as marketable as one that happens in NYC to Americans. Especially when the novel was written. It was still going on. Lorenzo Carcaterra could have learned of it as a journalist and adapted it. So not a true story. But a story of Truth.
Man this episode really doesn’t cater to the audio/car listening audience. Now that I’m parked I can find out who “your father” is caused I must of missed it in the beginning, but “your father” sounds like a fairly significant actor. Also I have a suspicion “my father” is the same as “your father” here.
This might legitimately be the best episode yet! I was riveted the entire time. Wes Chatham as a fan of and guide to acting is such an unexpected gem from this podcast.

I love this show. Thank you for doing this.
Jason Patric is awesome you should cast him in Season 7 of the Expanse alongside Ron Perlman just saying!
Hey guys, happy Wednesday. Celebrating today, completed my radiation treatments. U guys rock!! Stay healthy and stay safe!!

We need a Ty and Wes Movie list, I've been loving the recommendations this show makes!
Yeah they should add them in the show notes for each episode
Yeah!

Fantastic episode on Worn Stories!! Wes and Ty really need to see it.💗💗💗
Jason Patrick seems like an intense guy, but in a good way. Underrated talent, for sure.
Who would have guessed it ... turns out that Jason P is that guy.
I REALLY hope Patric plays Duarte in S6 of The Expanse.
@@CaravanseraiSouthValley wouldn't that be s7
My mum went to the cinema for "Sleepers" and came back in love with Jason. Said he was like an intense, dark version of Paul Newman.
Jason Patric is so intense and focused, everything he says is with deliberation. Rush was a massive favourite of mine but I didn't really see any of his other films apart from Lost Boys. I'm def going to watch them now though with added appreciation!

Fantastic episode! - I say this every week, but this is by far the one of the very best podcasts out there!
"Sleepers" was an incredible movie.
There are so many movies that come out each year. Most are forgettable but Sleepers definitely wasn't. It's the type of movie that sticks in your memory.

Best Chanel on TH-cam! Thanks Ty & Wes 👍🏻
Also on Amazon Prime if you got that.

One of my favorite JP films was "Rush"!
He was incredible in that and it had a great cast!!

One of the best podcasts...ever.
Lost boys is brilliant, and near dark too … great 80s (vampire) movies
Damn this is a great conversation.
18 years ago I was paralyzed (T-12 Complete) when I fell off the Lost Boys train trestle bridge.
Expanse series 😎😮💛🍑🌎👽
Lol! Ty is my spirit animal.
"One more story.." Wes cracks me up.

...and I've got to watch it for the first time.
Like I said before this doesn't have to be an expanse podcast. Just the fact that Jason has been in a lot of movies I have seen but didn't know him as an actor is amazing to me.
One day, I sat down and watched The Beast and White Tiger (two tank movies). Both are excellent.
The Beast is my favorite film. Jason was perfect in the role.
the tank's roomier now, sir.
Excellent Episode!

Almost as good as discussing the Expanse.
OMG, The Beast is such an amazing film! DAS BOOT in a Russian tank. That same crucible of intensity.

Funniest Freudian slip from Wes when he says he and his fellow vet spent hours "drilling" Jason.
I don't think just because you can perceive other possible meanings in a statement makes it a Freudian slip for the commentator. 😋
Guess we can't grill 😉 Freud about it.

Great episode guys. Only one nitpick.
On the Lost Boys:
It's his best movie - Jason Patric
Falling Down would like a word.
The Michael Douglas movie? Patric was in that?
@HowieStephens
Patric was talking about the director Joel Schumacher.
My comment wasn't clear to be fair.

I believe the train trellis in The Lost Boys is over Carpinteria Creek. Been there many times.
There's nothing cheesy about The Lost Boys, cue the Chunk Sax dude, Tim Cappello.

I need to check out "The Beast." Kevin Reynolds' first movie with Kevin Costner, "Fandango", is a top 10 all-time movie for me.
Even as I read the Sharpe's novels, Brian Cox is the face of Major Hogan.
I've been a Jason Patric fan since I was a kid and have never seen The Beast. Time to change that.
This was great! It could have been 4 hours.
33:48 mr plinkett(mike stoklasa) pointed this out about the star wars prequel, your brain can absolutely spot the fakery in cgi vs practical effects.
Wonder if Mr. Patric still trains jiu jitsu?
Awesome episode, love the show
I think part of the shift was with Regan and his "City on a Hill" that America was the good life and would only get better.
Given all the conversation about looking for it the right thing, not just taking roles because you are supposed to, how do you not touch on what led to doing Speed 2??
I WISH TH-cam had a function to Like unlimited MOMENTS in real-time (NO Lie: there would be a LOT of them in this interview!)
So.....was Patric cast as Duarte?
oh....now that is a thought. I can dig it.
