We were lucky enough to attend a Stan Hugill workshop at the Maritime Museum in San Francisco. I took copious notes as I didn't have a recording machine with me.When I got home I couldn't read them. But I bought his book, which is still available. He took us through many categories of types of songs used for the many parts of the ships that needed a crew. I still teach many of these shanties. We sang with Stan on the Thayer at the Hyde Street Pier, too but that was a different year. Oakland CA 2021

The copyright owner is the BBC. I did not ask permission to place this video on TH-cam.. The BBC never complained.
