I was playing the Corelli rendition in my car today = thrilling beyond belief. Listening to Giacomini sing this aria = a voice and artistry beyond all others. He is simply miraculous.

There is only one voice type that sings in one register, the chest register, across their entire range, & that is the basso profundo. All other voices employ both registers. The exception is the poor technique mediocre baritone voice that cannot ascent above F above middle C without roaring in a harsh gravelly bellow like a rock voice, or cracking off into falsetto, (which is the undeveloped head register) all professional voices above bass MUST employ the head register just to access their top. Even baritones, who only need the head register for G above mid C.

It involves covering the passagio from chest voice to head voice at a somewhat lower point than usual, which ensures an unusually dark and open sound in the top register but is very difficult for most tenors to accomplish without vocal damage. Giacomini managed it well enough to sing into his senior years.

Imo a heavy voiced tenor with good technique is actually the *most* beautiful tenor sound. Easier said than done it’s a tough needle to thread with heavy voices…very easy to get wide or harsh in the sound when it’s immense.

Politics play a big role indeed...so are agressive, greedy managers, which explains why Pavarotti and Domingo got so huge, versus better artists like Giacomini, Franco Bonisolli, Francisco Araiza, etc.
As much as i love Giacomini, it is so difficult to compare anyone to Corelli. Corelli may have had a lighter voice but it never sounded too small for any role. Giacomini to day at 73(o believe) may be the second best dramatic tenor in the world!
In quest'aria preferisco questo signore come interprete a Corelli. Pensate un po' che idiozia ho espresso, ma purtroppo che devo fare,la voce di Giacomini mi dà più quell'accento drammatico e affranto dell'interpretazione di Corelli in quest'aria. Perdonatemi!!!!!!
just heard Kaufmann again, and he is like a bariton who sings tenor, but the sheer excitement ( apart form his personal impression) of this voice, incredible, the best. Better than Pertile
