    One of the best Sanchin performance I've seen, the intensity of the kata for a man his age is artistic.

    Wow, thank you ! An quick valuable lesson on a TH-cam video from a Karate Master in Okinawa (pure gold). Through training you learn that proper breathing (and how to apply it) is the key to practically everything.

    VERY educational video. First time I’ve seen Sanchin actually shown applied to realistic situations. The uke is a very strong, very hard puncher so Sensei’s skill in block, parry and counterattack are very clear.

    Sanchin is most important. Once you've been taught the proper way of doing it there is no doubt. You just feel it. However as sensei mentions here 6:00 it is immensely difficult! Sadly I myself am being too lazy with it. The kata is frustrating to perform because you constantly feel something somewhere being off be it breathing, arms position, feet positioning, the level of your tanden to the ground and it's tension etc. My sensei told me to do it 8 times a day (2 in 4 directions) and I haven't been able to make it a habbit yet because it's just so hard. And prioritizing breathing doesn't seem to make it easier as I feel it is so connected with the way my body is positioned. I always feel that if sanchin becomes my habbit for life health, longevity and strengh are guaranteed.

    • @Mr440c

      @@ShredST most definitely. Some say the original meaning of karate is 'chinese hand'. I tend to trust that theory as karate could never mean 'empty hand' originally since kobudo is such a big part of it.

    He was born in 1953, so in the year 2022 he's 69.Goju, either Okinawa or the Japanese version comes to us from China, and according to my research from one of the four crane systems the evolved from one crane system from the Southern Shaolin. In this case, the sub system of crane would be Crying Crane, hence the breathing.
    A much older Okinawa system, from the Matsumura family, appears to be based on Feeding Crane.

    • @atomicdumpling6663
      @atomicdumpling6663 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I think the Crane system had a huge influence on Wing Chun, too. Karate and Wing Chun are cousins.

      @@laurencelance586 Thank you for your post Lawrence! I totally agree with you! I am glad I am not the only one who is interested in martial art history . Goju Ryu and Wing Chun even look alike--vertical punch, knee-inward stance (Sanchin Dachi), not many kicks... Actually, Karate, Wing Chun, Tae Kwon Do, Tang So do are all related. History is so interesting, isn't it?

    • @laurencelance586
      @laurencelance586 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@atomicdumpling6663 Yes, so let's take a brief look why this is so. Miyagi 1888 - 1953 learned from Higgiona 1855- 1915, who studied, among other things Hsing- I.
      Higgionna made several trips to Southern China, and brought several of his students along, including Miyagi, to study with someone named Ru Ru Ko, whose actual name I believe to be Xie Chong Xian ( about 1852 - 1930.) I'm still looking for more about Xie Chong.
      Now there are some missing parts here, as well as some missing decades, but I am satisfied that what became known as Miyago's GoJu Ryu was fathered by Crying Crane, one of the four subsystems of the original Crane Fist Boxing of the Southern Shaolin.
      And yes, we see that linage in the stances, in the breathing and in several of the kata
