I was there too that evening at the third highest row on the southern tribune. This concert was the best of my life. Our seats were cremt covered by the main hang but by a sidefill hang. Although we didn’t have the stereo effect some middle seats had, still I gotta say this was the best sounding concert I ever whitenessed. And as you say, guitar sound was 100/10.
If you want any of the recordings let me know:)

It's very sad that David is getting old, everyone gets older with every new day. But I have great respect for what he does at his 78. I’m not even sure that I’ll live to that age, much less play the guitar)). In any case, I wish him long life and many more concerts. He is a very dear person to me, although I have never met him❤.

One of the huge problems in what you heard was your physical location. To really hear the best sound, but not ever the best view, you have to get a seat right in front or right behind the FOH sound board or booth. The whole show is designed to sound best by the guy running the board. All that said, it will be interesting to see this show improve over time. DG hasn't toyred in how long? Yeah, it sounds like it has been that long.

Hey there! First of all, I'd like to say "thank you Musty!", I discovered your channel recently and, from what I had the opportunity to see, the quality and the quantity of your Gilmour-related material is really impressive. The time and the dedication put in your work are palpable... wish you the best and I hope you will keep going for long!
Second, I was in Rome, October 1st. As you said while talking about the setlist, the second part of the concert was not so "rich" as the first one in terms of guitar performances, but, in my opinion, the combo "The Great Gig in the Sky" - "A Boat Lies Waiting" was easily one of the best moment of the show. I know... David was only playing slide guitar and the main focus was the choir, but the sensations and the emotions they were able to convey in that context were overwhelming. After A Boat Lies Waiting ended, I turned to my father and he was basically crying, my eyes got teary too... best musical experience I've ever had :')
Said that, 28 or 78 years old, I don't mind, Gilmour is still one of the best guitarist on this planet.
    Long live David

Thank you for your kind words! I think my young age got to me. I can't relate to songs like "A Boat Lies Waiting" or "Sings" from the new album, JUST YET. That song was only played 3 times live before this tour, and I just couldn't believe it. Another highlight was the light show during Sorrow. Talk about art. And lastly, as a huge Division Bell fan, I was really happy with the many songs he performed from that album.

    • @mustyguitar

I was there on this day too. Had seats on the side tribune, row 6. Amazing sound. Was really happy to hear Marooned as it is so rare as live performance. High Hopes was definitely a highlight for me, it was so cool to see the balloons bounce around from a little higher perspective, added to the atmosphere. Sorrow was a killer, the lightning, the bass, the seats if not even the whole tribune was shaking, 10/10. Also loved Fat old Sun.
Was a tiny bit disappointed by In Any Tongue and the second solo of Comfortably Numb, but still, legend.
I really enjoyed the solos of David and Ben during A great day for freedom. Between two Points and Scattered were lovely, but the solos could have been longer, agree. I found Great Gig in the Sky quite touching, but granted, its not the original one.
Also, during the band introduction, he forgot Rob and said "Fuck" which I got on video, hilarious.
Tbh, the best concert I have been to so far and I feel so happy&lucky that I got the experience the master himself at least once.

I got torn apart on the comments for one concert clip... all because I said that I was sad that he'd finally lost his singing voice (Time, A Great Day For Freedom and Coming Back to Life were really hard to watch). I've never heard him struggle so much and it really upset me. He's my guitar idol and I love that voice. People were rude, insulting me... it got really ugly. I ended up deleting the comment just to stop it all. Honestly it was quite unsettling.

you should REALLY not watch Paul McCartney in concert then.... Unfortunately the man's voice is completely gone, to the point where it sounds absolutely awful to listen to if it was anybody else, but the audience does not care one bit because it's Paul f'ing McCartney! Dave's voice by comparison is still phenomenal. For the songs off the latest records, his voice is perfect, but the oldies they're really meant for a younger Dave, and to be honest we're just happy that he still performs them to us, regardless if he hits every note or not..

I looked and saw prices around 160 euro, if thats correct I could fly to rome have a room in a hotel and its cheaper than 1 night at The Royal Albert hall, the Cheapest seat is around 800 euro. Proces look similarly cheap in the US part of his tour. I wonder why UK fans are being ripped off 1

Sorry. I love uncle David...but....I keep thinking that people don't understand and always use David's age as an excuse. I can forgive the state of his voice and some imperfections in the guitar. This is clearly due to the passage of time. What is unforgivable is the wrong choice of musicians. Apart from the bassist and the keyboardist:
The Webb Sisters (the choir) were excellent for Leonard Cohen, but for a Floydian choir, they didn't have enough power. The version of "A Great Gig in the Sky" sounds very interesting, but it fails to move.
The low-quality setlist. It starts with "5AM" and then with "Black Cat," which have no connection to each other. Poorly linked.
Leaving out "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and insisting on "Sorrow" instead of doing the "Castellorizon" + "On an Island" duo, where the latter I believe is the last wonderful creation with the best solo he has ever done.
In "In Any Tongue," the guitarist doesn't make it. Bring in the choir from "Live at Pompeii."
And finally, even though Gilmour has always been more restrained with visual effects as a solo artist, the lighting effects were completely disjointed, without the magic we're used to. In the solo of "Comfortably Numb," there is no buildup from less to more.
I leave with the impression that the band came to finish rehearsing in Rome to perform better in London and the United States.

The lights and laser effects are completely random, with no connection to the music.

Maybe because it was the first night, maybe because is getting older but I saw him a little bit "lost".. he made some mistakes on the guitar and often stuck on the same notes. I have been to about 12 or 13 Brit Floyd concerts and I have found that sitting very close to the front in the middle is obviously great visually, but not ideal for tone and clarity on guitar. The guitar parts depending on what other instruments are being played are sometimes muddy, bass heavy and just not clear overall, and I would assume you were probably experiencing some of that also. I will say there is a difference between those two because Brit Floyd uses the AXE FX digital platform so most of there sound comes through the big stacks of speakers on the left and right of the stage. David Gilmour he still uses analog equipment with all of those amps and cabinets so I would assume there is a good amount of sound just coming from those which would have been right in front of you from what I could see off to the left of Gilmour. I was lucky enough to get a ticket to see Gilmour on this coming Nov 10 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, but I wont be sitting in the front as I had a hard time justifying $900 for a ticket. I will be right next to the mixing desk basically on the other end of the court so I would think audio should be great.

All seemed to be perfection to me. Something is off with this concert.
They are not as tight, a lot of pitch issues, and he seems to be having difficulty hitting notes while singing and harmonies were somewhat off key.
Even with that, I find myself playing his current show over and over. He is a master at what he does. When he laughs it off I feel he is just an amazing human. His songs project that as well. He has nothing to prove to anyone and just enjoys playing.

In the new songs, especially Scattered, I was hoping for improvisations, but he stuck to the safe studio versions. First I am one of those obsessed Floyd fans and whenever they play I sell a kidney and go watch either Dave or Rog… Last year Rog’s ‘this is not a drill’ was just unforgettable. The Production that roger adds is in its own tier.
Question I have in mind is: Do you think Dave made those few mistakes as a new thing now that he is older? or does he make mistakes on earlier dates of his tours?
I saw him live in 2016 in both Rome and Pompeii and all I can remember is absolute perfection in sound, timing and playing in both venues. But this time in Rome, I actually for the first time noticed a couple of errors and I remember thinking that it must be on purpose as in my head David is nonhuman! Also the night I was there on 29 Oct his crew messed up when he played the High Hopes solo on the lap steel and no sound came until the engineer went on stage and did something! That kind of ruined that perfect intro to the solo!
I actually LOVE coming back to life and it was a highlight that he played it 😊.

I have a picture of me next to the backup red strat at the Pink Floyd exhibit in Montreal, it would be so cool if this is the one being played. I heard the #1 at Massey Hall in 2006, I think I like it even more than the black. Maroon is one of my all time favourite song, it does sound a bit different than the record however.

Well, everything sounds a lot different than recordings for that matter. I don’t know much about the backup Strat but isn’t it the same as the original red Strat? And yeah I of course prefer red Strat tone over black Strat in most cases.

@@mustyguitar I guess the backup strat should be very similar in sound, look and feel to the original. I just want to see if I can do myself an ego trip and tell myself I was pictured next to the actual guitar he is playing. Thats all.

as well as you know his tones, ive got a hard time hearing a review on his tone from someone who was in the front row. aaaaaand as i was typing that i imagine youre going to compare this with more proper mixes and all kinds of recordings from this tour, you said that you would of course do that lol

yeah I'm not proud of it. I almost always skip and the Gdansk version is as overrated as the studio version in my opinion.
