    I modified the DG20 setup partly by using three SA-X pickups, master vol, master tone and the SPC in the third pot position. I am really happy, gives me all tones in my cover band!
    And it keeps the hiss and noise away (that I have with my passive guitars😉)

    Right at 5:52. That sounded great. That tone. Almost like there's a piezo in there also.

    Why not change out the bass treble and keep the mid?

      That's what he did. EXG pushes highs and lows, creating a scooped sound, SPC is the famous active mid boost which is an awesome addition to any strat with EMG singles.

    Strangely enough that is pretty much what I did. I found an old set of SA's with 2 passive A25k tone pots, and switched one out to the SPC, so in effect I have what you created, the other tone is still passive. The cap value is slightly different but within the range (0.099 uF as tested, 0.01 uF nominal). I did not use a 33k resistor which you bridged between lug 1 and 3 on your pot (if I am seeing your positioning correctly). Maybe you can explain the purpose of that connection.

      The resistor is only necessary if you are using the potentiometer of the exp electronic because it has another resistance. Good luck!

      @@MrJLobster Just a regular A25K EMG compatible passive pot.... thanks for the explanation!

    Wouldn't what you did basically be the vince gill version from emg? I believe that is an spc and master vol master tone?

    I love the SA pickups - but I am not a big fan of the controls. Not sure why, but the volume and tone controls do not react, nor sound quite right to me. The SPC and EXG are quite good (in my opinion) but the range of boost/cut is wrong. it's not subtle enough, so the usable range is more like 1/3 of what it offers.

    I ran into a similar issue last year with my dg20. I ordered an emg stacked 25k vol/tone pot to add in place of the DG-20 volume, but once I saw that circuit board I didn’t know if doing it that way is possible. That way I can keep the exg and spc and still have a traditional tone pot. Can you help me?

    Cant you just install a dummy tone pot in parallel to the whole circuit?

    • @MrJLobster
      @MrJLobster  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ....does n´t do much to the added hiss of the boost circuit and it unnecessary use some power away from your battery. It alters the tone somewhat even if the circuit is in the neutral position and there is no room inside to add another pot that was mend to be used... If you don´t like what the boost circuit does and you never ever use it - get rid of it - you will not regret it.

    Completely disagree with this. All you can do with a passive tone control is make your pickups sound darker. If I want to add sparkle, I just turn the EXG up to 1 or 2. Can't do that with a passive tone control.

      Which is completely fine! We all have our opinions. You are absolutely right there are things that many peoples out there like about the EMG DG and are not possible with a passive tone control. But this is also true the other way around. Our used marked is full of used DG EMG sets that people want to get rid of and some of them may simply miss their passive tone control like they are used to.
