Would be an interesting idea to make a video about East vs West: A Hearts of Iron Game (cancelled Paradox Cold War that thankfully was leaked online and you can actually play it). You can find in on Wayback Machine details EastvsWest (and download it for free). It's sad that so few people knew about this game and even fewer actually played it.
That Chewy guy does seem pretty cool ngl Thanks for covering the mod, broski, I appreciate it a lot! Glad to see you ripping it up and reclaiming Carthaginian glory!
33:29 The library of Alexandria wasn't burnt by Christians, they destroyed what was left of it, as the library was mostly destroyed due to negligence, the Christians burned or destroyed what was known as the Serapeum, which was not the Library we know of.
Let’s say, hypothetically speaking, that Carthage is the greatest empire of all time. Then, this would mean that Laith is the true successor to Carthage as a Tunisian, and should create a Mediterranean empire
I meaaan modern tunisians really have very little genetic relation to the phoenicians so i mean not really lol lebanon is ironically the closest to carthage as it’s almost entirely phoenician
The only complaint I have about the mod is the start date. Ain't no way everything in the world would change so little. I do understand it cuts the amount of work tremendously, since all techs, institutions, etc get to keep their names.
Mods timeline doesn't make sense,it's like a lazy toddler put everything interesting regardless of historical accuracy. There are so many flaws but some of them are Gaul being a nation and Christianity not being dominant in Carthage or any place. Gaul tribes were never united even facing outside threats like Rome.Even if they did, they wouldn't make it to 1443 as a united "Gaul" Empire. They either be assimilated by outside force or they would be mixed so much that they wouldn't be recognized as Gauls. Christianity did spread because of Rome and roads they constructed but it doesn't mean it wouldn't be spread at all.Roads primarily constructed either for army or for trade and Carthage was master of trade. They would still construct roads much like Rome did.Christianity was not entirelly spread by help of roads either,it gain huge popularity because of missionary activities of Saints and Apostles like Peter and Boniface. For some reason many historical changes or their aftermaths are missing. Like what happend to Slav,Magyar or Turkish migrations? If Magyars didn't migrate to Pannonia the Slavs would,if Slavs didn't the Cumans would. If none of them at all then Avars would still remain. Not Germans(Not considering the fact how the hell they would still be same and not assimilated or mixed like I mentioned with Gauls is strange).Mongols did rise in this timeline then where's the historical scars of it.Only united Hungary,Bulgaria,Poland and HRE were able to stop Mongolian Hordes conquering Europe or Pannonia.Rulers like Charles Martel,Vladimir of Kievan Rus',Timurlane etc. were left out. There is no mention of what happend to events or rulers who changed course of history in this mod, rather than saying "They are not born".Overall it is lazy layout and funny how creator is replying comments mentioning this mod has a blank timeline like "You don't know anything about Alternative history" yet presenting his mod like a masterpiece "what if" mod with lacking historical foresight.
Not hating on the mod at all, it looks really well made and fun, but the plausibility of this alt-historical setup is thinner than whatever fabric they're transporting up the African silk road. (Not the Carthage winning part, thats actually reasonably plausible, moreso the idea that in ~1600 years so little about the geopolitics of the Mediterranean would have changed from antiquity. Also, the changes that are portrayed, such as the Suebi seizing western Iberia while at the same time a strong and unified Gaul would have stood directly in the path they would have had to travel to get there, don't really pass the sniff test for me.
Yeah, it would’ve been more interesting if we had some migratory Germanic successor states in North Africa, Iberia, and Italy. Also no Avars/Magyars and no Balkan Slavs/Germans is super unrealistic and lame. This mod would be infinitely better if every region had some sort of struggle between the old powers and new upstarts, which some would be from migratory groups and others from Christians or Muslims that have taken root. Tbh the most unrealistic aspect is the religions.
I mean, Gaul is very clearly not unified if you actually look at their mechanics. Their main mechanic is centralization, so the gameplay demonstrates the decentralized nature of the tribes.
20:42 - yeah Islam’s situation in this mod is *questionable* lmao. Most of Arabia including Mecca and Medina are pagan, but the Horn of Africa and India are as Muslim as the base game, which indicates to me that the first version of the mod is not finished with making changes lmao, because Islam should not have developed like that lol.
Chewbert seriously made Laiths wet dream? He can now finally go after it 😄. Mod looks cool, hope you continue playing this one. To your enioyment here are some classic laith quotes: "Now we can hit them with our cogs" "Oh, the library didnt burn down this time?" "Stay in your desert! Dont get close to my civilization!"
I can tell this version is a little while back because it still has the old HRE screen. Anyway the mod looks fire, just one more day to wait then I can play it all weekend.
the starting line of the video is a little funny if you remember that total population of the entire Carthaginian empire and Rome put together was probably half of the current population of Tunis as in a single city has more people today than both of those countries had at the time
Carthage being an end node with essentially no access to european trade is heinous design. either carthage shouldnt be an end node or italian trade should feed into carthage. it feels so bad to be a maritime trading nation where your natural expansion routes all do nothing for your trade.
Got to say, with your video on Carthage, and LordLamberts video on that other country that I cant remember the name of. But has OP Ideas I am sooo going to download this.
I must say that this looks like a really interesting alt-history mod which I'll definitely try out, but I have just one question: Why the Hell is Bohemia called "Moria"?!
My favorite facts about the Punic Wars are the sheer amount of Romans that were killed, only for yet another Legion (or seven) to show up and continue the fight as if 50,000 soldiers hadn't just died the week before
@@Boretheory Exactly. Personally, I would have cut my losses after the first couple of Legions died and were almost immediately replaced, if they still sent more it was just proof that Carthage was almost completely outmatched in terms of numbers. Like Troy or Thermopylae, it would only be a matter of time until the Romans overran Carthage
@@ChrisVillagomez Rome almost collapsed after those defeats, they had almost no reserve left and had to rely on their remaining allies and mercenaries to provide more soldiers. So basically Rome fought the middle part of the Second Punic War with 0 manpower reserve

I guess my version of this would be making Poland rise above it's competitors to become an Eastern European Powerhouse? Sorry if this seems entirely disconnected from anything, it's just that when you run out of ideas on how to tell someone to play a Fire Emblem game, it's really easy to fall back on yourself. Speaking of which, day 157. Play game.
Did you know that the religion of Carthage was the old Jewish/Canaanite religion, but the belief in 1 god spread among Southern Levantine people (Judaism)

I agree. The world looks like it's had nothing happened for almost 2,000 years. No migrations and no kingdoms have been formed.
Laith talking about how Carthage using the fact they owned land in the levant 2,000 years ago being tenuous at best is hilariously relevant.
I figured he might be insinuating to that but not trying to be specific enough to have it go against him if that makes sense
I feel like the timeline should have been set back a thousand years or so

Formalise seperation of powers is a vanilla decision for any nation with a parliament. That's not an addition of Chewy's.

did the mongol invasions just not happen in this world?
They heard Carthage survived and got scared
It did, I don't know what caused their collapse in this timeline, but they conquered everything up to Novgorod before collapsing.
There's no way Oversimplified's Punnic War 2 video comes out the NEXT day. What do you know that we don't, Laith?
To be fair this isn’t the first video laith has made about Carthage
why is the start date 1444? that seems wrong for this senario
Ease of making the mod mostly, changing every tech and institution and so on is a pita
