yes browsing graphic novels at the library is my favorite!! i love going to the manga section at one of my libraries because it's HUGE, and also i love checking out the middlegrade graphic novel area, i've found some of my favorite reads there recently and there's something so magical about illustrated children's fiction that can totally be enjoyed as an adult as well.
@@netogrof it’s the best, i’m glad that those sections are being given more love i know when i was younger there were only a few popular series and not as much variety so it’s super cool seeing there be more!
21:43 I am a sucker for books with time travel/time loop element to it and The Seven Year Slip integrated this element so well!! This just hit the emotions right. It made me laugh and it made me cry so hard! 😭 It kind of reminds me of Your Name (a Japanese animated movie by Makoto Shinkai). It also did a fantastic job of discussing how we don't always get to end up the way we hoped we would- like, that conflict of finding direction in adult life. ✨
Writing to say that I love the format of those videos, it's something quite unique, at least among the books content creators that I follow and it's always a good time! My last read is The Mystery Case of the Alperton Angels from Janice Hallett, which is a mystery with a very original format. Current reads are Kaikeyi from Vashnavi Patel, Il teorema dell'amore (the love hypothesis) from Ali Hazelwood for my Italian TBR and Ficciones de JL Borges for my Spanish TBR. No idea about my next read as this is not a decision I can take until the very minute before I start a new book 😅
Current Reads: Currently doing an Eragon Re-read, plan is the whole series and finish off with Murtagh which I'm VERY excited for! And on the side I'm reading "Betrayal and Falador" which was the first Runescape book released when I was in middle school. Always saw them in the book fair magazines but never bought them, too many posters to buy instead. For traveling I think I'm similar ish, I'll bring one book knowing I might read it for 5 minutes... if I'm lucky lol
That little Booknook Japan street is too cute!!!! You should DIY a library one with a bunch of empty shelves to put all your minibooks in As for latest reads, I just finished reading Anna O by Matthew Blake, I am currently reading Dungeons and Drama by Kristy Boyce, and my read after that I'm thinking will be The Antique Hunter's Guide to Murder by C.L. The Books Before Bed videos are kind of calming. Watching it before going to sleep helps me fall asleep much better.💤 Btw, I call your ghost, Mr. Boo! (I know, I know, my sense for naming things is...👻♪ )
I started using CAWPILE this year and it's made me so much more thoughtful in my rating process. I do think it takes some tweaking based on the individual to figure out which averages equal which star rating, especially on the higher and lower ends of the spectrum. Last: A Fire Endless - Rebecca Ross (I liked this better than A River Enchanted!) Current: The View from the Cheap Seats - Neil Gaiman Next: Red String Theory - Lauren Kung Jessen
Last read: "In a Witch's Wardrobe" Current: "Tarnished and Torn" Next: " A Vision in Velvet" I am reading the Witchcraft Mysteries series by Juliet Blackwell and really enjoying it
Thanks for answering my question! 😄 I just finished Chlorine by Jade Song, I'm currently reading Eileen by Otessa Moshfegh, and I'm not totally sure what my next read is going be, but I'm thinking Young Mungo by Douglas Stuart or maybe The Miracles of the Namiya General Store by Keigo Higashino.
my last read was ace of spades, currently I'm reading Warrior Girl Unearthed (and like 4 other books) and I don't know what's next. I really enjoyed this video i'm currently in a reading slump but getting the ebooks of one of the books on my phone kinda helped (because I deleted all the socials from my phone so reading is the most fun thing I can do on it) and so does seeing other people enjoy reading is motivating me. Glad to see you're enjoying reading so much at the moment :)
I love book books. Last read was The wager By: David Grann. Current read is God Emperor Of Dune By: Franklin Herbert. And Crank By: Ellen Hopkins. Don't have a next.
I am so excited to get to Seven Year Slip. I Really want to read it since I enjoyed The Dead Romantics so much. I hope you have fun with Emily Wilde. It was one of my favorite reads of 2023. Last Read: Yellowface by R.F. Kuang (I'm unsure how to word my feelings for this book. I did like it for the most part though.) Current Read: The Brilliant Death by Amy Rose Capetta (This is a reread so I can read the sequel next.) Next Read: The Storm of Life by Amy Rose Cepetta (The sequel to The Brilliant Death)
Last read: The Maid & The Only One Left Current read: Caraval Next read: A Haunting in Venice. My husband and I are going to Florida next weekend and since he’s driving and it’s about 7 hours I need another book to read since a Haunting in Venice is not that long 😅
Love these sit down and chat videos from you! My last read was The Water Dancer (5⭐️), current is The Shadowed Sun, and next is The Ballad of Black Tom.
Last Read: Graceling by Kristen Cashore. Honestly I wasn’t too much of a fan of it. Current Read: Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree. Super enjoying it so far! Just my type of cozy, and fantasy mixed. Next Read: Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor. Honestly I absolutely am in love with her books and style of writing, so looking forward to finishing the trilogy of Daughter of Smoke & Bone, I love how personal you make these videos feel, getting to hear your thoughts and feelings on this.
I bought one of my favorite books at the airport, once. Probably never would have stumbled across it otherwise-'cause I was suuperr deeepp in my Fantasy era, at that time, and never really went into the contemporary / crime / thriller / drama type fiction sections of book stores[ unless you count urban fantasy and/or those more sleuthy paranormal detective types and such] but the airport shop had this particular novel out front-and-center on a big new releases display or something that was impossible to miss! 😊 (It was one of the Rizzoli & Isles books, and it stuck with me so well that I instantly thought of the characters from the book later on when the tv series started up even though I'd completely forgotten their names were Rizzoli & Isles and didn't know until after I started watching it that the tv series was actually based on those same exact books!😂😂 It was probably the first time that I'd personally encountered a female character in the lead role in that particular kind of fiction, so I may have been exceptionally biased in favor of liking it[ I dunno], I should really reread it someday and see how well I still like it or not[ especially since I always meant to try picking up the rest of the books in that particular series]; I grew up watching crime / action type films with my dad and uncle, and often imagined myself growing up and actually pursuing that kind of a career someday myself when I was younger, so it was extra special to feel like I could finally see myself reflected in a piece of fiction so much more than I did before although my life has actually taken me in entirely different directions than younger me fancied it might!. Lol SORRY Oversharing, probably, but I can't help that you mentioning possibly buying books in the airport just suddenly brought that memory flooding back to me, forgive me!!! 😅😂😊)
“New adult” is the transition between YA and adult. The MCs are between 18-25 usually. I can’t read YA anymore because I’m 27 and reading about sixteen year olds is just too weird lol so if you’re struggling with this, I’d recommend new adult books, or like Jesse said do a lot of research. My fave book currently is YA, but the characters read much older and I’m 99% sure the only reason they’re teenagers is because YA sales better so the author just took down their ages by a couple years (six of crows if y’all are interested)
Last read: Black Friend by ziwe (for black history month but also because it's great! fun!) Current read: Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow (trying to read more nonfiction and loving it!) and The Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson (buddy reading with husband) AND Tripping Arcadia by Kit Mayquest (book club pick featuring a trans author!) Next read: Can't even think about it given that these big books have swallowed me whole and may never spit me out!! :)
This video was a vibe, love! Also, CAWPILE sounds interesting, I think I'll try it too 😊 my last book was Whites: On Race and Other Falsehoods. My current read is 1984, This Thing Between Us, Ring Shout, and Monstrilio. My next read is My Brilliant Friend.
I thought of this name and then saw another comment with the same name😂 but you should totally name him Gary! Also, I end up taking like 5 books everywhere I travel even though I read none of them. I need options! Also, loving this type of format and I'm so glad I've found my way back to you after watching you 5 or 6 years ago and glad that you've kept your awesome personality and improved your video quality by a lot. Great job Jesse❤
So my last read was a graphic novel, called the Tea dragon tapestry, my current read is legends and lattes and everybody in my family has killed someone. And my next read will be looking glass sound by Catriona Ward. I’m a mood reader so this can definitely change at any point lol
I relate so much omg - brought 14 books with me to Spain and read a grand total of 2 over the course of 5 months 😭 I'm currently in between books but my last read was The Alchemist and now I'm eyeing The Perfect Run by Maxime J Durand as my next (if anyone has read The Perfect Run pls lmk if it's worth it!)
My last [completed ]read (that used my actual eyeballs) was 'The Right Move' by Liz Tomforde, but my most recent last reads that were in fact actually audiobook listens were 'Kingdom Cold' by Brittni Chenelle and the last 2 or 3 books in the 'Eleven Wings' series by that same author. My current read is 'Sword Catcher' by Cassandra Clare-but my most recent soft/unintentional/[for now] DNFs from before picking that up which I do plan to get back to and finish reading at some point are 'The Immortal' by Gena Showalter, 'To Sleep In A Sea Of Stars' by Christopher Paolini, and the last book in 'The Dark Artifices' trilogy by Cassandra Clare. My next read will probably be either 'Sanctuary of the Shadow' by Aurora Ascher, 'The Nocturne' by Jordan S. Scott, 'The Foxhole Court' by Nora Sakavic, 'Counterpart' by Ella Pyne, 'The Demon Kiss'[ or something else] by Juliana Haygert, 'Shadow Magic' by James E Wisher, or 'Out On A Limb' &/or 'Next Of Kin' by Hannah Bonam-Young. (Or maybe I'll get impatient and just pick up 'The Seven Year Slip' instead of any of those because I keep seeing it everywhere and it sounds like something I might really enjoy; I dunno, we'll see!. 😏🤭🤭 🤣) I'm currently in my era of dipping my toes officially into giving the Romance and Erotica genres a try and/or actually picking up booktuber recommendations sometimes instead of just adding them to my ridiculously endless want-to-read-someday list, and picking up completely random books I know nothing about just because of their covers, and/or intentionally checking out books that other people have said are terrible for various reasons and/or picking books up for really obscure reasons like their author once tried to sue Twilight's author for plagiarism when they probably should have meant to try and sue for copyright infringement or something instead at most or just not even sued at all.😂😂😂 But I really want to get back to my accidentally unfinished series reads and physical TBR that have been waiting for me for eons by now, and I really want to try dipping my toes even more into both contemporary crime thrillers as well as like some cozy fantasy / cozy paranormal & or mystery type fiction, or such. I'm just really trying to stay disciplined and not jump ship onto that at least until I've actually finished what I've currently started-so maybe my next reads will actually completely change from what I've currently listed after I do. 😂 I just got super distracted by watching tv shows instead of reading for a little while, after I started Sword Catcher, so now my mood as far as what I want to read next the most has kinda started to shift again somewhat; I really need to do better at balancing splitting my time between all the things I wanna do a little bit better. Lol Most importantly, I'm trying not to go into books looking for great reads, I'm trying to just pick books up and be along for whatever ride they present to me just for the fun of it more like I used to do when I was younger; and if I happen to pick up simething that is also a really great read in the meantime, that'll just be a happy bonus but not a deliberate or required goal/objective. I don't only want to value literary merits, or such, but also just for pure entertainment/curiosity alone and so on. 😊 🙂 ((Sorry, I ramble!🙃 🙏😁😁))
@jessethereader I want some advice from you or anyone who’s able to help…I’ve been reading The Passage. Now don’t get me wrong I’m enjoying it but I’m not feeling motivated to read it every night cause it’s a huge book, little over 900 pages and the chapters can be super long. I think after I finally finish it, I’m gonna read a short comic book series and then come back to book 2 cause it’s a trilogy. Is this a good idea? Cause worst case scenario book 1 ends on a cliffhanger and I start 2 right away which isn’t really a bad thing but I think the length of book 1 is just intimidating I guess? I don’t read big books like this a lot
Thats called a bookend. Mine I built a Diagon Alley bookend :) My last read was Fungus (think of it as a prequel to The Last of Us). Current read is Twenty Seven Minutes and next is anything goes 😊
The only way I can read while travelling is choosing a tbr full of contemporary or thriller, basically anything that doesn't make me have to get to know another world, because that feels like too much brain energy when I'm already travelling and getting new information and experiences through that 😅
Ayyy what are you doing in NYC? Anything specific? I’m actually planning another trip there myself to see a bunch of shows when the new Broadway season opens this spring! Last: You, With a View by Jessica Joyce (big on the grief, amazing chemistry between the leads) Now: Only This Beautiful Moment / The (Fake) Dating Game / Finally Fitz Next: no idea, I am a mood reader
I took my kindle with me to the UK because I was going for 5 months and couldn't have carried that many books. I thought I'd buy books from there. Then I realised books in UK are wayyyy more expensive than in my country. So I ended up just clicking picture of the books I wanted to buy, so I can buy them once I'm back home 😂 I didn't read on the kindle either. There was just no time 😐
Buying the books there is my plan too, but I'm pretty sure they will be cheaper and it'll have more variety too, but I'm also thinking of getting a kindle so i can read the books I'm gonna buy back home😅
love this format :) completely relate to the 'creating your own stories' whilst travelling!!! like i loooove the idea of reading but mostly only on trains 🤣 but even then, i also like to be aware of my surrounding and look at everything happening ❤
Jesse my dude, did you forget that you own an E-reader? I never take physical books with me travelling because my kindle is so convenient. Also the ghost is giving me Gary vibes 👻

I love how personal you make these videos feel, getting to hear your thoughts and feelings on this.
Last read: Black Friend by ziwe (for black history month but also because it's great! fun!)

I relate so much omg - brought 14 books with me to Spain and read a grand total of 2 over the course of 5 months 😭
I'm currently in between books but my last read was The Alchemist and now I'm eyeing The Perfect Run by Maxime J Durand as my next (if anyone has read The Perfect Run pls lmk if it's worth it!)
Last read: Fourth wing
Current read: 2nd book in the Vampire Academy series
Next book: I have no clue! It will be a surprise lol
I'm currently in my era of dipping my toes officially into giving the Romance and Erotica genres a try and/or actually picking up booktuber recommendations sometimes instead of just adding them to my ridiculously endless want-to-read-someday list, and picking up completely random books I know nothing about just because of their covers, and/or intentionally checking out books that other people have said are terrible for various reasons and/or picking books up for really obscure reasons like their author once tried to sue Twilight's author for plagiarism when they probably should have meant to try and sue for copyright infringement or something instead at most or just not even sued at all.😂😂😂 But I really want to get back to my accidentally unfinished series reads and physical TBR that have been waiting for me for eons by now, and I really want to try dipping my toes even more into both contemporary crime thrillers as well as like some cozy fantasy / cozy paranormal & or mystery type fiction, or such.
I'm just really trying to stay disciplined and not jump ship onto that at least until I've actually finished what I've currently started-so maybe my next reads will actually completely change from what I've currently listed after I do. 😂
I just got super distracted by watching tv shows instead of reading for a little while, after I started Sword Catcher, so now my mood as far as what I want to read next the most has kinda started to shift again somewhat; I really need to do better at balancing splitting my time between all the things I wanna do a little bit better. 😊 🙂
((Sorry, I ramble!🙃 🙏😁😁))
Ghost name suggestions:
Ted,
Reginald,
or Horace (in honor of Miss Peregrine's)😊
Jesse in his Podcast Era? SO CYOOOOOOOOT
It will be so nice to name the ghost Wendell, inspired from the graphic novel Sheets. 👻
Last read: Heartstopper Vol 5
Current Read: The Stand-In by Lily Chu
Next Read: ?
Last: You, With a View by Jessica Joyce (big on the grief, amazing chemistry between the leads)
Now: Only This Beautiful Moment / The (Fake) Dating Game / Finally Fitz
Next: no idea, I am a mood reader
👻 Ghost name suggestion is, Avocet.
😜
Jesse, have you replaced your book buying with mini-book buying???
Name the ghost moose or waffle
Maybe do instead of buying a book in every bookstore, read in every store
i'm a simple girl. i see books before bed, i click 😌
I took my kindle with me to the UK because I was going for 5 months and couldn't have carried that many books. I thought I'd buy books from there.
Then I realised books in UK are wayyyy more expensive than in my country. So I ended up just clicking picture of the books I wanted to buy, so I can buy them once I'm back home 😂
I didn't read on the kindle either. There was just no time 😐
Buying the books there is my plan too, but I'm pretty sure they will be cheaper and it'll have more variety too, but I'm also thinking of getting a kindle so i can read the books I'm gonna buy back home😅
That's when you listen to audiobooks or have some ebooks dled. That way you aren't taking up precious bag space on books.
Petition to call your ghost Noah like Noah Czerny from The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater because Noah is a wonderful ghost. c:
Last read: The Fury 🤯
Current read: No One Can Know

do a library tour instead of a bookshop tour on your trip
Thats funny I'm litreally in bed and jammies 😳😂
I am enthralled by your minibooks series, I really want you to collect them all, but those duplicates are infuriating.
love this format :) completely relate to the 'creating your own stories' whilst travelling!!! like i loooove the idea of reading but mostly only on trains 🤣 but even then, i also like to be aware of my surrounding and look at everything happening ❤
Me watching this, while getting ready for the day: 👏Books BEFORE bed👏🫡
