Fourth wing - as someone who doesn’t normally read fantasy I loved it but can totally understand why people who do normally read them would not find it great ❤
I love how the "Bye-Ooooh" ending seems to be expanding more and more with every video 😂 I'm actually going to rave about a new favourite I finished last night that I feel is entirely too underrated --- Greymist Fair by Francesca Zappia! The writing was so whimsical and I was sucked right into the story to the point that I entirely forgot I was reading at all. The book itself is broken down into several smaller stories that end up painting the larger picture of the town of Greymist and it truly has all the vibes (including the elements of horror) that original Grimm fairytales have! Highly recommend for anyone looking for an atmospheric read, who loves fairytales and entirely-too-short chapters
I just checked my Goodreads and I read/listened to 11 books this month, I am incredibly proud of myself! 🥳 Some highlights of this month were The Poppy War, Gallant and Red White and Royal Blue. I was personally disappointed with The Shades of Magic trilogy as a whole (but I did love the first book)...and Fourth Wing. Still an awesome month of reading for me and I truly enjoyed most of my reads!
@@kimoro9643 I really liked it! It was a quick read for me but it gave cozy, dark and whimsical vibes. I couldn't put it down. I think I read the whole book in less than 4 hours 🫠
I hear you about reading a lot but still wishing you'd read more. Last year I got back into reading after many years of only reading a couple of books a year. This year, I started a reading journal for the first time. Last year, I read a book a week on average. So I set a goal of 52 books, and left space in the journal for 72 books. In January, I read 11 books. I might have to tape extra pages into my trackers in the reading journal. On the other hand, I plan to read Anna Karenina in March, and that might take the whole month.
I did the same thing last year, calculated a book per week average and set me goal to 50 books, but last year I only got 46. However, there are some months I read lots of books (14 was my largest I think) and some more ths where I read none at all. Just stand at my books longingly without being able to break my depression enough to actually read one. Even if you don't have mental health struggles though, I think it's normal to have periods of lots of reading and periods with less. Some months we are just busier with life stuff and some months we are just focused on other things. That's why booktube talks so much about reading slumps. I think your on the right track with celebrating the months where your ahead (11 is awesome btw!) And forgiving the mo ths where you get behind. You got this!
January was reading slump for me. I only read on two days. so I decided to finally make my reading journal, so I'll be more motivated. than i saw my bingo I already make and saw the trope 'at least one book each month', it was in the evening at this time :D soooo I did the only right thing, I read the thinnest book I have :'D 38 pages, I even couldn't give that a rating, it feels like an sample haha but at least, I read a book :) but the reading journal really helps, I'm actually motivated QwQ I've read 3 manga so far (including 2 thick omnibus editions)✨ (edit: I hope my english is not too bad qwq)
Love the list and so glad you found some gems (and some things I will undoubtedly end up adding to my TBR.) I also read 9 books in January! Here's my little recap: 1 Now You Care, Di Brandt (poetry) 3.5 ⭐️ 2 The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Jenkins Reid, 4.5 ⭐️ 3 Just Your Local Bisexual Disaster, Andrea Mosqueda 2.25 ⭐️ 4 Beyond the Wand, Tom Felton, 3 ⭐️ (I can see why you don't rate memoirs. I'm being generous with this 3 stars. Really this book was not for me but no shade on Tom so, 3 stars is like my memoir minimum. Lol) 5 The Complete Persepolis, Marijane Satrapi, 4.5 ⭐️ 6 How to Protect Bookstores and Why, Danny Caine, 4.5 ⭐️ 7 5cm Per Second + Children Who Chase Lost Voices, Makoto Shinkai & Ashahi Akisaka, 3 ⭐️ 8 The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas, 4.75 ⭐️ 9 Papillon, Henri Cherriere, 4 ⭐️ No 5 star reads for me, but there were some close ones and still lots of good books read, so it's a win!
I listened to Spare last year as part of an Audible free trial. Like you, I thought some things were too detailed in particular his military experience but overall I enjoyed it. A River Enchanted has now been bumped up my TBR list as quite a few BookTubers I like have recommended it. Last month I read 14 books & my 5 star reads were Salt To The Sea, Babel & All The Light We Cannot See.
Rebecca Ross is literally my favorite writer, I own all of her books and my favorite book of all time (Sisters of Sword and Song) is by her and it is actually the reason I want to become a writer/editor :). PLEASEEEE read all of her books
I'm happy you loved Untethered Sky! I keep meaning to read it and don't know why I have been putting it off since it's so short! Now you need to read more from Fonda Lee!
Ahh everyone is convincing me to read Yellowface! My fav read from January was Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter, the characters made me smile and laugh so much with their banter! You should definitely read it. The 3rd act conflict made me really sad but that’s my only complaint.
Rating and writing reviews for memoirs are probably the most difficult thing you'll ever do. I used to do this - I'd look at the writing style and that was basically it. But after a time, it didn't get easier as I had thought it would. It's best to not rate and review a memoir, or even a biography.
I read Project Hail Mary and it ended up being my favorite book in such a long time. Not too sciencey where it confusing but the storyline was 😘🤌🏽 chefs kiss
I'm so glad you mentioned that Godkiller has 4 povs because I will not be picking it up now. I love it dual POV but I can't stand more than that if it happens more than a couple times
Happy Place and River Enchanted are both *CHEFS KISS* I will say, I prefer Rebecca Ross's adult books over her YA. I think there is just a certain refinement to her adult writing that is lacking in her YA. But that might be an unpopular opinion since I know a lot of people really love Divine Rivals.
Still waiting on another 24 hour readathon ❤. Because you make them aesthetically pleasing and always calming? Like you’re one of the booktubers that I love to watch for 24 readathons also.
Honestly, my January month wasn't that great in terms of reading. The best book I read was A Mirror Mended, which I did enjoy quite a bit. This month has been going better in quality and quantity. I just got my first five star read of the year that wasn't a reread. I think I have lowkey gone off on an Alix E. Harrow binge because in the past few months I have read A Spindle Splintered, Once and Future Witches, A Mirror Mended, and now, just finished today, Starling House. That one is honestly my favourite out of all of these. A River Enchanted sounds really good, and I will be looking into that one. I had similar thoughts about the ending to Yellowface. It is hard to explain but it almost felt like it went a little off the rails. Like you said, it was little too dramatic at the very end.
Good reading month !! Fourth Wing wasn’t for me either. I loved the beginning but then as soon as the romance part came I was immediately pissed and done. And the dragons cursing threw me off big time ! 🤷🏻♂️
2:21 Oh my, I finished Iron Flame in January and my goodness with this book not only did it give me so much second hand embarrassment and cringe; it became frustrating. But it does have a crazy ending! So yes! It can be cringy and really frustrating but yup I wanna know where does the story go after what happens at the end of Iron Flame! So yes do not go in with any expectations but that the ending is mind blowing.
Would you be able to review my book? It is called Sands of Elysium: A Knight of Sol, just looking for some reviewers, because I hate this dreaded path of marketing :P

Hey there! I’ve prioritized other things in January rather than reading… no regrets 😊
I thought your thoughts on ”A River Enchanted” were beautiful! How lucky you are to have found a book that makes you feel that way! I'm so jealous!💖

I had fun with Gallant! I just found it randomly at an airport but thought it was neat :) what did you think??

@@Elizabethb619 same!!! love a quick read 🤗
If you haven’t read Divine Rivals, I would read it! It’s my first Rebecca Ross book and loved it. I also loved Fourth Wing.
Sounds like I need to read a river enchanted! 🥰
starter villain I think you would love it this guy's uncle dies and he inherits his evil empire with volcanic island etc so funny
It was fun!

You've convinced me to buddy read A River Enchanted with my best friend B)

How you felt about A River Enchanted was exactly how I felt about Divine Rivals by the same author.

I read Yellowface in January too (also gave it 4 🌟, it was great!) and I'm in the middle of Happy Place right now 😂 🧡

Omg wasn’t expecting a review of Spare or Yellowface here! But loved your takes on both books ❤
I would love to hear your thoughts on the book “the Grace Year”. It’s one of my favourite books that I read last year.

Ahh now I want to read A River Enchanted even if it's not my genre at all

I didnt love Happy Place, but i do agree it was better than Booklovers.
Heyy we read Yellowface in the same month! :D
Someone else I watch said Happy Place is their favourite Emily Henry book… I don’t remember who though 😅 Hannah maybe? You’re not alone, anyways
I still haven’t read fourth Wing 😬

Ok, Jesse - is a River Enchanted rivaling Ms. Peregrine?
I guess I match with Jesse's book taste more than regards the only problem he doesn't upload more often 😅
It seems you hated fourth wing 😂
I mean jesse and u liked fourth wing too but Regan didn't which was hurtful tbh
Would you be able to review my book? It is called Sands of Elysium: A Knight of Sol, just looking for some reviewers, because I hate this dreaded path of marketing :P
:)
1:53 this feels kind of ripped from skyward
Child has poor reputation because of parent/grandparent isn’t unique to skyward. It’s a super common trope
I also found foruth wing cringe and illogical - couldn't eve ride one stop on the hype train
