Congrats 500 sub mission complete, well deserved mate! My collecting is a combination of all things. I absolutely love ripping boxes, the excitement and the unknown but it's the sheer amount of cards left over that I don't really want I always have issues with.
Thanks for all your support along the way mate! Finding a way to enjoy the hobby in your own way is all that matters! As for all the unwanted cards, If it were me if i had full bases sets i would list them on ebay at a decent price. Anything else make up your own packs and give away to kids/people at any show you go to.
Great video Damian! There is one reason that you didn’t mention and that is the nostalgia of opening boxes of cards. I think a lot of collectors like myself opened boxes of sports cards or Pokémon as a kid so opening boxes now brings that feeling back (in addition to the gambling rush. Haha) I like all the cards you bought. I hope the grading goes well. Definitely keep us updated.
Hey Joe, yeah thanks for adding that in. I did not think of the nostalgia side as sports cards weren't a thing for me as a kid. Pokemon was but I wouldn't have those and ufc as similar. But can definitely if people are now opening ufc to remember their childhood days of opening other sports.
Yeah I have enough areas in life where i feel like an idiot. So if I can avoid it by not buying expensive boxes and buy singles instead than i will lol. Thanks Matt
Great strategy, I don’t open a lot of wax myself. I did however open 2 hobby boxes of 2024 Chrome, got that out of my system, back to singles now 😂 Buying and grading singles is the easiest way to level up, that’s worked for me over the last 15 plus years of buying UFC cards.
Hey mate, Surely Eric can send you a box or two lol. That's fair though to just buy a box or 2 and then move on from it. Would love to connect with you about your experience buying raw and grading. Its no easy task. especially with ufc. Thanks for the input mate
Sorry man I’m not watching this because we’re talking about this soon and I want to hear it live. But know that I still liked the video 😂 500 subs!!! 🎉
Good decision brotha. I like the look of Topps Chrome but the price is too high for the value you get back from boxes. Espc with only 1 big rookie to chase
Holding sealed boxes can work well for resale in years to come especially if Topps don't make another Midnight product again and 2024 was the only year. I myself probably would'nt though
Im just starting to collect ufc cards and have only purchased blaster boxes. Picked up 5 of the tops chrome pulled some nice cards and a chito signature. So far, for the $150 I've spent, I'd say I have about $250 worth of good cards. Rest are basic. I am still learning all the variations. Im not sure what variations are worth sending on for grading.
Sounds like you're off to a good start! Not many could say they would get the same return if they bought 5 boxes. Be interesting to hear how you go if you got them all sold and the money you made back. As for not sure which inserts/parallels are worth grading you could do an easy search on ebay at sold listings of the particular cards for PSA 9 and 10's value. Then check over the condition of the cards and make a decision if its worth the risk or not.
@ufccardtalk I don't plan on selling anything unless I pull multiples of cards honestly. I randomly picked 3 blaster boxes from Target to start. Pulled the chito in the first box. I just look at value for my money on what I get, not to make profits. I like your info on just buying second-hand ones I want also instead of boxes. I think I will do little of both to build my collection up at first. Thanks for the help and info.
@@Hoosierdaddyjones812 Oh ok i thought you had checked values because you wanted to sell... Yeah definitely try a mixture of both, experiment with the grading process and then you can decide on what you like and don't like so much. Have fun. and thanks for sharing
Used to get packs as a kid, not ufc. But all the other sport! It was fun but I never pulled 1 auto out of any of the packs I got. Back then they would open the blaster, and sell those packs individually. Packs back then were 99 cents to $5 so not horrible..
Hey mate, Yeah that's interesting to hear. To you get any nostaglia from opening UFC packs now even though it's a different sport comparing to when you were young? To be fair inflation has kept pack prices pretty even. I'm sure a kilo of bananas were a dollar back in those times also. Now we are paying $5 for that too haha
@@Maineventcards Kinda lol, I think I enjoy it now more than I did as a kid, because I understand cards way more than I did back then. Plus at some point I shifted from playing baseball to becoming a wrestler..I guess that's what started the love for ufc as well. But yes inflation sucks haha
@@jessehilton6856 Yeah that makes sense. I'm sure the chase of a bigger card with the focus on of what value it can bring means more as an adult also! Thanks for the comment mate
@@Maineventcards Happy about not opening Chrome this year, not a good product and not a good start for Topps/Fanatics again. I was hyped up for it, but, then I saw it and just garbage. Even retail wise, there's like 24 blasters, 10 megas, just sitting at my target, it ain't moving retail wise and hobby is garbage.
I'm a deal/value guy when it comes to opening product. Even though it is fun, I can't justify spending hundreds+ on a box. I like products like the UFC Chrome Mega where it has a guaranteed auto for $60 USD. Granted you are less likely to hit the monster hits, but the ROI is usually much better. Buying singles will always be the smartest use of your money, but sometimes its just fun to pull that lever on the slot machine.
I definitely think your strategy sounds well thought out. And as you said if you enjoy rolling the dice sometimes for some fun understanding you most likely won't get your value back. Thanks for watching and your comment
opened my pre ordered 99$ hobby box. loved my hits: auto poatan, number pennington, case hit poker GSP, molly auto, a lot of cool magenta and purple cards. i loved it personally.
Hey mate, yeah at that price it's definitely a big difference. Happy to hear that you were happy with everything that you got and that you really enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment
I have seen 2 designs that I actually like so far. Doesn't help for me that most are horizontal designs. But i do like the Tale of the Tapes and the Main event Autos although they are stickers. Thanks mate
Haha sounds like you timed it all perfectly. Have to talk to Zac and see if we can get you a certificate made up to commerate haha. Thanks for the sub and the comment
Haha I said this referring to this card because there are many who will argue that a Panini instant card which isn't pack pulled is not at all rare. Even a 1/1 Panini instant card doesnt get anywhere near the love a traditional pack pulled 1/1 does. There are many Panini instant haters out there.
@@Maineventcardsyes, 400$ Canadian dollars. I bought two hobby boxes at a card show last weekend and it was so terrible, it turned me off from opening boxes, I’ll never do it again. I was so upset that I wasted that money, I went on eBay and bought two superfractors for the price of 8 hobby boxes. Way better value and at least you get the cards you want

Yeah definitely a lack of a Rookie chase this year so far. I still can't believe Charles Jourdain can't get a card.
I pulled a 2024 topps chrome ciryl gane 2/5 red refractor card from a blaster box 📦
Thats an insane find in a blaster! congrats mate and Thanks for the comment!
This was definitely me buying in after seeing everyone else hitting big time cards 🤷♀. Congrats on 500 Subs mate!
Oh thats sucks to hear! Hopefully you will have better luck next time! Thanks mate, You know the grind and to hit 500 subs is awesome!

Good luck with the grades over at PSA. Bring cards for pregrading to Swecard :)
Hej Mikael. Ja, det gör jag! Tack
Buying sealed wax and holding it could be br massively profitable if you choose a year stacked with huge rookies.
I agree. I think there is definitely good returns on the right hobby boxes if bought at the right time

Live a little and rip a hobby box. At 45 years old with no wife and kids, $300 should be mere pocket change. What am l missing?
