Good stuff, Nice job former best friend. 👍TCT
Hope he didn't gas you out. Im sure he was happy the fan was off at your place.
Tony’s Cool Tips!
Hey there Mr. Electric bike man!
I never would do that!
Great info.
We used to get all of my equipment from local pro shops. A few things happened that changed the dynamics in my area.
Big city. Lots of big box stores. Lots.
Pro shops closed because the owners died or retired.
The two tech colleges dropped their small engine repair program. I know this because I was going to enroll in the program. I like to fix my own stuff. Not my dental work though.
I had a saw that just quit running. Bill took the saw into the pro shop where we purchased the saw. The owner had passed away, and the mechanic had also passed since we purchased the saw.
The new mechanic told Bill that he was not strong enough to run the saw, a Farm Boss, and he tried to sell him a battery operated saw. Bill told him that I run the saw and he was lucky that he did not make that comment to me.
I wanted the saw fixed. We cut our ties with this shop. We took two snow blowers and a leaf blower for work and all three times we were told our stuff was junk and we should buy new stuff.
I head south to the next county with a Stihl Pro shop. The mechanic says you need to buy a new saw. But, can I have your Farm Boss.
No, I will go somewhere else. Meanwhile we acquired two new saws and my Farm Boss, sat in the case on my bench.
A friend came over and he said I know a lot of small town pro mechanics. Let me take the saw. He brought it back last week.
A retired small engine mechanic from a local DPW in his area worked on the saw. He said the saw looked brand new, even though it was 20 years old. My friend explained that after use, I clean my equipment with q tips and tooth brushes.
My Farm Boss was more a sentimental saw. I got it back and it runs perfect.
Payment was a case of Spotted Cow.
If I need to, I will drive to Ripon for future repairs. Around here you are SOL.
On another note, a brand new Fleet Farm opened in our area. They sell ethnol free gas. Where we live the fuel is mixed with 10 percent ethanol from corn.
The gas is $1.30 more than the ethanol gas. I will make that up in not having repair bills.
Yes I ONLY use corn free premium on all my small engines! You old saw sounds cool!
Good morning Chris and Tony!!!😀😀
All great points my friends!!👍👍
Take care my friends!!😀😀💚💚
Logger Al
Thanks Al! You too!
I use Pro shops for all my equipment!! They may be more expensive, but take care of my problems!! Like Tony's shirt!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Yup, yes and ya!
Started with a Poulan Pro, after a couple of years, I was cutting more and wanted something better. Went to the Stihl dealer and explained what I needed and told them I didn’t want to have to upgrade in a couple of years, sold me a 261. Perfect for what I’m doing and have no regrets.
Nice!
Really enjoy how you promote local/small business.
Thanks, I one of them. 35 years in my first one and 10 in my second one now
Great advice. Buying high end equipment, like a chain saw, from a dealer saves money , time and hassle in the long run - don't be "Penny wise and dollar foolish"
Yup! I know a guy who counts EVERY penny yet he goes to the casino to gamble, pro sports arenas, wears high end designer clothes, drinks like fish...at the bar.
I learned my lesson on this topic early on in life! But I LEARNED from it! You guys are spot on! Take care fellas👍🏻👍🏻GNI
Yup, the best lessons are ones you LEARN! Some times they hurt a bit though!
Buying at the proshop supports your neighbor and keeps expertise and cash flowing locally.
Buying at the big box supports the vampires on Wall Street.
Yup.
You are also helping provide local, better paying jobs than the wages people get a the boxstores.
Yup.
Hey Chris and Tony, great advice,I went with the 572 over the 562 on advice from my dealer, and Chris your coffee tree sample is on the way. Thanks fellas.
Awesome, thanks!
Hi Chris - Thanks for another great video, you’re spot on! Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome to see you two and the jokes cracks me up lol 😂 I’ll call you the savage twins hahaha cheers 👌🏻🔥🇨🇦
We are not twins! But we are both Polish!
Another great topic that needs to be addressed from time to time.
My local dealer is 30 minutes away and thay are AWSOME. The box store is 10 minutes away. But they can't beat my local dealer on experience and assistance
Thanks for sharing Sir Daniel!
Love the woodcasts guys! Great info and entertaining! 🔥💯👍. This was a good topic to cover!! We’ll see you tomorrow! Andrew from NB :)
Awesome! Thank you!
Great advice Chris and Tony. Got my gears going when a pinched bar was mentioned, it happens to us all. On that front, a in board clutch makes taking the bar off way easier than an outboard clutch in the case of the dogs are against the log. I definitely agree about going to a pro shop, hands down the way to go. Build a relationship with them and they absolutely know the brand they sell. I have worked in a big box store… go to a pro shop is all I can say. 😉 Good Night Irene.
Good stuff! GNI!
Spot on guys, great video. Stay safe and have a great day…
Thanks, you too!
Good advice Guys.
Thanks for watching!
Yeah, hey guys, I totally agree with that. Buying straight from the dealer is definitely the way to go What’s good information out there for people who are trying to get into this
Thanks!!
Great talk guys!👍👍
Thanks!
Boy, you two are too correct. Saving a buck or two ain't worth the small expertise at a pro shop when needed. Shout out for the experience and help over many years at Ellsworth Chainsaw in Ellsworth, Maine. Saved me from stupid many times. Bought many tools ( Stihl ) over the years. They also sell/service Husqvarna BTW. Never got a hat or shirt!
It is god to have a place for help...just ask the shop for a shirt next time!!
Good job!
Thanks!
G’morning Stooges. Nice word making. Sweet information giving. Nice banter.
GoodNightIrene
Good morning! We are specialists at banter....Banteroligists.
Great video. Years ago I crushed a saw. I had to do the unthinkable and buy a in the wood yard approved saw. Due to the fact there was no Stihl dealer within a hundred miles of the job site. The dealer gave me a pair of new chaps with the saw. When I made it home I went to my shop to have my crushed saw looked at my dealer offered me a a one time deal. I could either trade it in for a couple of hundred dollars off the price of a new saw. Or I could pay him for a shop hour to look at it. I chose to trade. I then explained to him what happened. He then said I will make you another deal. Bring me that saw and 2 cords of firewood and you can have any power head in stock. I tossed him another hundred dollars for the bar and chain. I gave him the saw and paperwork and picked up the second saw that when I dropped off the firewood. I am not brand loyal but I am loyal to my saw shop. Thank both of you for causing me to remember how important a great working relationship is.
THAT is how it is suppose to work...you both got value and what you wanted/needed! Awesome!
top class and correct in every way
Thanks for watching!
The relationship with mechanic is worth extra travel. My wife bikes a lot and the tech that does yearly check and repairs moved to different store, so she took her business and followed the tech.
Good to do, follow the trust.
Nice video
Thanks for watching David!
What great advice 👍👍👍
Thanks!
Hey Chris and Tony. Great point on buying saws and other small engines. Service is the answer. Without that you might have to buy a new saw when you have problems. Great video.
Great point!
Good job guys. I have misused, wrecked, blown up just about every cheap brand/model of saw over my lifetime of cutting down trees and making firewood at the farms of my family and friends along with the storm damage that results from ownership. Only pro saw I ever owned was a top handle (2 at this time) purchased at my local small engine dealership. That brand no longer makes gas top handle saws -victim of Cal emissions. My bigger saws are farm & ranch Husky models. Recently bought Echo 7310P from same shop for the exact reasons you pointed out. I really wanted a Husky but needed the local support. GNI
The 7310 is a great saw, it will last you years!
At box store; yesterday you were in the lumber department, today you are selling chainsaws and weed whackers. Another great point that may be so obvious you didn't mention, at most of the pro shops you are dealing with someone who knows the products because they are firewood guys and chainsaw users themselves. They really, really know what they are talking about. I found a guy who is super friendly he runs a pro shop, and also runs a tree service from the same place, But I found him because he is a Central Boiler dealer and owner. So his advice comes from real experience with the supplies he sells.
Yup, sounds like you found a good one.
Some good tips
Glad you like them!
Good Video Chris and Tony good Stuff ( Ty Ron
Thanks Ron!
I have always said "Mechanics have to eat too!"
I say mechanics will save you time effort and bad words... Time is the most important thing we have! NOT MONEY!
Got 4 dump trailer loads of wood dumped on my woodyard last week. Today had as many as many as 6 dumps of wood.
Awesome!
@InTheWoodyard so yiu can guess what I'll be doing on my week of vacation. LOL!
G’morn’n Chris & Tony! Pro Shop? I prefer Garage Sales and Marketplace!😉
Warranty? We don’t need no Stink’n Warranties!🤣
Bless’ns to the both of ya’s! Tedd
I 2nd this thought...With all the great information available on just YT alone these days. Anyone should be able to decide what model is best for them, and also search to see how any potential issues with that model are addressed/fixed! The extra bucks look great still in my wallet where they belong!🤠
Ha!!!
Do you do your own dental work too?? There are lots of videos showing how it is done on the tube!
@@waynetharp Aye! I certainly wouldn't recommend it for everyone, but yes, it has saved me a ton of cash over the years. Don't get me wrong, I've landed a few stinkers, but for the most part I've benefitted greatly.
Bless'ns to ya,
Tedd
@@InTheWoodyard Not yet, but I appreciate the tip!😉🤣
Bless’ns!
Great advice Chris and Tony!! GNI
Thanks!!!
buy a saw at a local hardware store or big box store, saw quits running, you take back to the store and the guy that works in them. its his day off. they tell you that it will be done in a few days
Yup, you do not know what you will get or when!!
Wally's Saw and Gun. Bruce Wisconsin good people
Good to have a place to go!
I see three good reasons to stop and check them out on my next trip up north.😁👍
My pro shop has a blanket service for all saws that are brought in. Individuals who bring a saw in are treated no differently than state DOT and local logging saws. Plus chains are cheap there because he sell in volume. Fun show guys.
Everyone is a good customer...they all talk about where to go...most know who is good and who is not.
Hi Tony & Chris😁🇦🇺
Hello!
Good stuff!👍 Do as much research as possible on your own prior to visiting a pro shop or even a box store! you do not know what they do not know unless you have a little basic knowledge yourself, On one of my more recent purchases I had a Pro Shop 🙄try and sell me on something I did not want because it was what they had in stock and had no idea when they might have the one I wanted, I ordered from a dealer online and had it in hand 3days later and saved $300-400 by doing so. Knowledge is power!
Wrong pro shop.
@@InTheWoodyard Yes it is the wrong one and the main reason I now buy all my saws out of Daytona Beach Florida of all places and if I need warranty work the warranty is still good even in Minnesota.
Just as good as stand-up comedy 😂🤣👍
It was the sit down kind I guess?
#supportlocalsmallbusiness 🇺🇸
Yup.
Hi Chris great show again. Can you please talk about saws that are difficult to start? I recently bought a Stihl easy start and LOVE it. I have a Husq that I love but the start has always a pain in the butt. Not looking to do this myself just would love a big picture on this. Thanks Jim from Pennsylvania.
The only saw I ever had that started hard was an old one that I sold. I do not yet own any Stihl saws and only have a bunch of Husqvarnas now so I do not know what to tell you about that???
I gess that works as long as you dont have 30 year old saws.
I figure the average age is around 20 years.
I had one that was a month shy of the life time free replacement of the electronic ignition.
That was my 394 and a half.
.
But i anything made in the last 15 years they will be able to fix easily.
And a box store will not have a clue what would need to be done to fix a saw.
Nope a box store will know nothing valuable, a pro shop will know the old stuff.
Good job gentlemen I like it when you stop by Tony’s. Tony saved your life today …. Tick could of killed you!
I did just get Lymes disease again!
@@InTheWoodyard Any preventative precautions taken?
More than likely wood and not deer tick.🤔 Still nice having a former best friend watching out for him.👍
@@InTheWoodyard buy permethrin and soak your clothes in it. Or even just socks ans trousers cuffs and it cuts down a lot of ticks.
I buy life systems here in UK already diluted to 0.5% with water but I believe you guys can get bulk 10 or 13% farm strength and then dilute it down.
Lasts at least 3-4 weeks sun exposure before you spray on again.
@@iffykidmn8170 I tried living in a zip lock bag but i needed to get out a few times.
Great video Chris & Tony, love Tony’s tick. How do I work a trade on “In The WOODYARD” T?
First I need to get some made...I am working on it!
Good Stuff Guys!! Good to see Tony !!
Thanks!
Husqvarna 450 rancher for $225. Is that a good deal? starting my firewood business.
I have no idea...new, used, new/old chain, new/old bar, does it have good compression? My advice...go to a pro shop and ask questions.
👍🏻👏👍🏻
Thanks!!!

Most of the videos here get about 10k-12k the first day.
You have a Dremel, why don't you do your own dental work. The reason I no longer buy Husky is that they sold me too lemons and didn't make it right. I am glad that you love yours. I will never own another one.
Yup, I understand, my wife had a Ford (turd) and then I bought one years later (double turd)!
@@InTheWoodyard We only run Toyotas. I have had 5 go over 400,000 miles. I have never had to do anything major to a Toyota. Both daughter's, both grandkids, my mother and brother all drive Toyota. No problems.
Buy once cry once!
Yup ...true!
How much did it take to have Tony wear that hat?
1/2 stick of used gum I found on the ground.
@@InTheWoodyard lol
Never even noticed had to go back and look, there is still hope for Tony perhaps he will jump ship and get rid of his crooked cutting saws.😉🤪🤣
Good Morning Woodhounds!!!!!
Hello!
I need to apologize to Chris. I have been running a 50cc saw for years now because I am old and it is lighter. I run an Echo 501-P. I also have an Echo 590 Timberwolf that is 60cc, I almost never ran it because I didn't think I needed the extra weight. I always thought Chris was using way too much saw for the jobs he does. Yesterday I had a large hickory down and got 53 rounds from it. I cut the first 13 with the 501 and it was OK. I cut the rest of the pieces with my 60cc saw and wow,, it went so much faster. I cut 40 pieces, that were bigger, in less time than it took to cut the 13. I had a 90cc Jonsereds when I was younger and loved it but havn't had a big saw in many years. I was thrilled with how fast I cut that tree up. I may have to get the Echo that you guys just bought. I never go into the woods with one saw. You will always pinch one.
Yup, bigger is better...if you can handle it! It is getting harder for me too!
Nobody around @ the "Box Store" can't find anybody to talk to or ask questions !
True!
One of the first questions asked by any reputable repair person AFTER the owner has explained the problem experienced with the equipment is: "have you disassembled it to try to fix it yourself?" If the answer is yes, most service persons will refuse to even look at the equipment. Why? Because now the initial problem may have been masked by owner intrusion and created even more problems, and thus require more diagnostics and subsequent expense. Best just to take it into the repair shop, explain the perceived problem(s) and await the call from the repair shop.
yup!
If they refuse service even if the owner is willing to pay for non-warranty service perhaps it is time to look for a different repair shop.
You guys should start a pro shop 👍🪓 giddy up
HAAAA! No thanks, I am not a mechanic and do not want to be one...I like the woods way more!
