I've said this before... Patti is the reigning power ballad soul screaming living legend. She has the range of a cruise missile, the vocal power of a nuclear bomb... there is a reason we call here La Bomb Shell Labelle. She doesn't just steal the show... she drags it across countries, counties, cities, and then across the stage. And she has been doing it for 50 years! She should be classified as a national treasure.
Patti is easily the best singer alive and our lifetime. Sure, you got Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Aretha, Barbara, etc. But in my opinion, Patti out-sings them with range, power, sustained notes, a massive full-voice range, just everything! Amazing!
People can say that she yells or over does it or even trys to upstage others. But this woman can flat out sing.she gets a standing ovation almost everytime she sings on stage. And this woman is 76 years old and is still doing it and sounds way better than some of today's so called superstars.

It was a 2 hour special called 'The Majic of Music', hosted by Dick Clark and Anita Baker, honoring the songwriters of Tin Pan Alley from the 1920's to the late 1980's. Stellar Performances like Patti's, including Michael Bolton, k.d. lang, and Liza Minelli. A must see!! A MUST SEE!! Someone should post this whole special.

patti was my first true musical crush. i was a 9-yr old kid with labelle & patti tapes. up through my teen years, her soaring range & performance dramatics had my heart. as an adult, i fell in love with aretha. to me, she is THE sound of soul. her recordings from the 60's, 70's, up to the mid-80's are breathtaking in their raw earthiness & musical sophistication. they're very different vocally and performance-wise and always have been. nothing's wrong with that. we've been blessed by both.

She didn't reserve her voice she chose to smoke cigarettes and now she struggles to sing..although menopause has changed patti's voice ever so slightly our girl can still get down and sing her songs in their original key! Patti is second to none baby!
