Winter Camping in Snow Storm - Blizzard Wilderness Backpacking the North with Cold Tent (Extended)

- Cold tent winter camping during a snow storm in the northern wilderness. The forecast said 26m/s or 58mph winds with minus ÷7°c or 19°F. First time using my Hilleberg Nallo 3 tent for a winter storm. I choose snow shoes again since it makes filming easier than if I was using skis. I did this trip to test my gear for survival on arctic mountain winter trips above the tree-line, where you will not find trees for shelter or wood for a fire. I wanted to see what the weak and strong points of my gear was. I could have built a snow wall but needed to test the tent without one. Enjoy the video!
(Extended version)
Gear list for this trip is towards the end of the video.
Check out these new winter camping videos:
• Winter Camping in Cold...
• Blizzard - Winter Camp...
Safety Notice:
This trip was done to test gear for winter expeditions
and a campsite with less shelter from the wind was chosen on purpose.
Please don't go camping in winter storms without the proper gear and experience.

About me: I am a Norwegian adventurer and wilderness explorer. My youtube channel focus on outdoor wilderness adventures and exploration, backpacking, hiking, canyoneering, skiing, climbing and mountaineering. Nights spent in a tent, alone or with friends. From the snow covered mountains and misty fjords of Norway and Scandinavia to the remote plateaus of Yellowstone and the debts of the red canyons of Utah to the summit of Mt Whitney and the heart of Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park. I love the Wilderness! Email is under "For business inquiries", for general questions please comment on a video, I try to answer everyone.

Thx for this wonderful video again. It shows once again the importance of good gear, comprehend basic skills, being prepared when setting out and above all the love of nature. I have only done once in much more chill circumstances, no harsh winds, but just cold -10° or 14 Fahrenheit in idyllic settings haha (still was a experience for the first time to be honest).
Thanks for watching:-)
Thank you so much Geronimo Baby, really appreciate your contribution! It is funny I dont see the superthanks on my mobile app, only when I go on my laptop, so I had to give you a specific thanks and pinned comment here now that I saw it:-)🙏
@@NorwegianXplorer I heard indeed from others that the donation alert not working the correct way (showing certain amount of the donation). Like I said, I really enjoy your vids and love to watch them like now on a rainy Sunday afternoon all cozy and heater up hahaha. But yeah, I know from the past how wonderful it is to experience this kind of adventures out in the nature. Wish I will pick up soon too.
@@geronimobaby6344 Awesome, thank you so much, here there is a full on November storm, so I am watching some sunny youtube videos myself🙂
خخخخ۰خ
ur vids are the best. me and my daughter make tents and watch them pretending to be in the storm
That is so cool:-)
Yeah, that is so awesome! :)

Lol
,
When I’m searching for thunderstorms or blizzards to fall asleep to…THIS is the sound I’m searching for!
Cool, thanks!
I have said many times how much I love camping in rough weather conditions. This video is a perfect example of balance between skills, mental discipline and experience.
With only the necessary gear required to survive, while at the same time maintaining your mental stability. In situations like this it is extremely important to understand that the only source of heat is your own body, and you can clearly see how methodically this body temperature is being preserved. Almost like tending a small fire!
Bravo!
Thank you, yes the key is having dry clothes to change into once you stop working so that you dont start freezing from the swaeaty clothes, and then get into the sleeping bag to preserve the warmth.
@@NorwegianXplorer I've been soaking wet from riding a bike at night looking for a place to camp
In the rain, finely found a overhang
Jumped into sleeping bag and was almost dry BYE morning, lots of steam coming from wet (but warm)

Great filming man 🙂👍
Having a good tent to hide from the sometimes rough element is also important.
Btw, how is the Hilleberg tent?
We spent thousands of years surviving this weather.
And now that we have cities our instincts takes us back there and actually enjoy it.
Yep,indeed!
Too cold for me! You’re the G.O.A.T. of winter camping, lol…. You have much courage to handle all that cold wind and snow. Hats off to you!
Thanks Susan, I enjoy it very much!
The dedication to make this video in that weather just earned you a new subscriber
Thank you and welcome!
me too
Amazes me how that tent holds up, it puts up with the most extreme weather and never seems to let you down
Hilleberg tents are very well built indeed!
I'm watching this from the comfort of my bed with the wind howling outside my window, adding to the atmosphere. But I'd love to be camping out there, just for one night though.
Awesome, enjoy!
You, my friend…are an absolute beast! And I mean that in the most endearing way. Outstanding in every way
Thank you so much!
This is the most extreme weather camp video that I've ever seen. I didn't know that it was possible. You're smart and crazy but it keeps you alive. Cheers and thank you.
Thanks Nelson!
Good to see a man that doesn’t take his poor dog !
Lol
what a camping adventure...you arent afraid of a little blizzard..thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
This is the best video to watch at night on cold winter nights. It is exciting to watch but helps me to fall asleep in my warm electric bed with the sound of the wind and snow I live in Missouri rural area and we get snow and winter days of 10 F below 0 F with wind chill of 15 to 20 below zero sometimes. But the worst is our ice storms sometimes 5 to 6 inches of just ice. Everything stops then and poor cows freeze if not put up. The power lines snap and trees snapping sounding like bombs dropping. But some winters it is mild with no snow. Missouri known for crazy weather and springtime tornados!!! Keep making your great videos they are terrific. Would love to see Norway a most beautiful land.
Thank you, that sounds like some hard wintertime weather indeed!
I feel good watching this video over and over again
Awesome, thank you, greetings!
My respect to you, I could never do what you’re doing, it takes someone with a lotta skill to do what you do and know how.
Thank you Moises!
I had to put on 2 pairs of socks just to keep watching 🧦- So windy, really tested the set up patience im sure!
Lol, it was quite the experience!
Cold is one thing, cold plus crazy wind equals hotel room! Lol.
Sometimes lol!
Thanks for going through these conditions for us to live vicariously through you another awesome video.
Glad you enjoyed it!🙏
I’ve watched many “extreme blizzard” videos, only to find that the only thing extreme was the title. Now you setting up that tent in that insane, relentless wind..actually had me fearing for your life a few times, but you proved to be stronger than the elements..brilliant display of winter survival skills
Thank you! I find myself looking at some of thoose videos too from time to time😂
Das ist exstremer Winter und Wind.Super👍
Thanks Rafael!

I love ur extreme weather camp sir
I used to join in a camping group without basic knowledge. After 6 hours of hiking we set up tents, I felt very cold without knowing that I had to change my sweaty clothes. I am picking up little knowledge from threads. I am glad I found this channel.
Thank you for watching:-)
Wow, great video, 30 seconds in, shweet!
Thanks Phil!
Not sure I would want to get out of that sleeping bag until the spring comes! That does look a tad cold out there! Great video as usual. Looks really cosy inside the tent. Just need a TV and a log fire and you’ll be set up for the winter. Shut the world away! Take care out there! Thanks for posting.
Thanks peter, I tend to stay in the bag quite long in the morning lol
@@NorwegianXplorer Not surprised. Sounds good to me. Looking forward to the next one.

We're just moving into winter in the Midwest & not used to the cold yet.....

In winter ❄️🥶 season night lights off and full fan speed and watching this video. One of the best feeling in winter nights. Thank you for making this video ☺️
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have never, ever going to complain about setting up camp in the rain again.😳
Haha, I think setting up in rain can be more misserable than this many times:-)
Hi Jarl. I remain a fan of Ric Nagualero. I loved watching his campcraft projects and recognized how much better he was at them than me. Many years ago I was a scoutmaster of a Boy Scout troup here in Oklahoma. Your video reminds me of several winter camp outs however we were in much less severe conditions however still rough. Fortunately I as well as all my scouts survived and hopefully gained some confidence in ourselves. John Oklahoma USA
Hey John, thanks for your note:-)
Lovely the winter storm camping trip, the wind was incredibly strong🙂
Glad you enjoyed it

Love your videos!
Thank you🙏
Experiencing these extreme winter conditions, howling blizzard sweeping the snow flocks as swords into your face, you could have turned home, or to the near-byest guest-house.... But Jarl goes on, wrestling with setting-up his tent, leaving a relative mild temperature inside the tent in order to reinforce it outside.... hoping it will hold . And it held ! You should have owned a double coffee !!. And for dinner 2 poor little heartformed wafles shall not have stilled the hunger after all your efforts ! But... you did it, Jarl ! Congratulations !
Thanks Regine!
Hi from Canada,
We see the truly experienced one when you inflated the sleeping pad with the bag and not using your breath :) What I do is put the folding pad on the ground and then the inflating sleeping pad on top. Then, I add on top, one of those windshield screens for vans in the summertime. They are very lightweight and made of reflectix. You have to do that otherwise you're losing lots of body warmth to warm up the inflating sleeping pad. You can also set the reflectix windshield first, then the inflating sleeping pad, then the folding one.
I really LOVE those boots cover. I want the same!
Thanks, greetings, I want to go to Canada soon!
@@NorwegianXplorer Then don't hesitate! Our countries have a lot in common....except for the size lol

God almighty, that was terrifying. I do hear that Norwegians say there is no rugged weather, just inadequate gear/clothing.
I am now convinced. Also, your videography is topnotch.
It's 8° in Austin at 3am. We think we're about to die of the cold - but we all wear shorts and flip-flops to the office in winter.

My family's bloodlines run right up into Norway, Sweden and Germany. I really enjoy the cold weather.... Something living in Texas (USA) I'm robbed of... All that being said, HOLY crap!!! The wind chill has got to be insane. Coldest i've ever been is around -29'ish F, with a pretty decent breeze.. (White Mountains). It was NOWHERE close to your video. Great info on the tent and situation. Your tent looks similar to the Big Agnes here in the states... Probably much more durable thou! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, this is a very strong 4 season tent from Swedish tent maker Hilleberg, it can handle extreme weather:-)
