What is Postcolonialism:
Since I claim to be a postcolonialism scholar, I think it is apt to include a brief description of my field of study. In my view, Postcolonialism ( also written as Post Colonialism or Post-Colonialism) is a dynamic field of literary study that focuses on the history of colonialism and native responses to the colonial policies and life after colonialism formally ends. The field of postcolonialism also offers insights into the literature and culture of the the former European colonies and their struggles after the end of colonialism.

Woa! thank you for your quick response. I think it's much clearer now, your example with different individuals has helped. I guess interpelation would be related to a kind of 'role' that the individual is supposed to play in a given ideology where he/she is immersed. Something that we interiorise most unconciously and informs us of our position, even agency, in our society. Therefore, when we are hailed by an authority we answer accordingly by assuming such role. Right?
You are welcome. Yes, it sort of reminds us of our sense of self within a given ideology, especially since there is no outside to ideology according to Althusser.
Like others, I appreciate the explanation! The sources my professor gave me on "What did Althusser mean by interpellation?" were a muddle I ended up doing my own research on the term. Thank you!

Thank you, Dr. Raja. In some ways, interpellation sounds similar to Crenshaw's Intersectionality and researcher positionality. What are the differences as you understand them?
Thank you. I would say interpolation is probably more general as it forces us to think of our own subjectivity at the moment if the hail itself. Crenshaw’s is more about how subjectivities are formed.

Can we say that interpellation is actually the indoctrination and internalization of a certain dominant idea among the common masses?
Thank you. In my understanding it is about an individual subject and their response to an act of hailing by power but the subject is in the world and that world shapes it but there are other better terms for it like socialization etc.

Thank you. Just see how the basic understanding of hailing applies to any situation.
Maybe you can think of us as hailed or interpellated as consumers, as entrepreneurs, rather than citizens or political subjects (since most media is consumption oriented). And we begin to think of ourselves as 'individuals', as consumers, rather than citizens with political duties or capacities, and we act accordingly, for example we 'buy ethically' rather than protest or do some kind of collective political action to end deforestation, slave labour.
