    I love hearing such calm, attentive and helpful controllers. Great job by all!

    Nicely done by ATC in that busy airspace

    It's amazing how two pilots and three controllers smoothly hand off what had to be a tense situation.

      Can always fall back on the good old wet compass but wouldn't want to rely solely on that in a commercial airliner.

    Not all 767s have fuel dumping. United spec’d that in its models.

    • @jaysmith1408
      @jaysmith1408 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So continental’s did too by sheer coincidence, or just United United’s?
      Edit, a little research told be that CO only had 200’s, since retired, and UA only has 300’s (this being one of them apparently) that were always theirs, but the question still stands.

    I'd love to know what the cause was of the loss of navigation. I assume they could still receive navaids but did not have RNAV capability.

    • @porkrind
      @porkrind ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not familiar with a 767 avionics suite, but generally loss of nav means loss of the Flight Management System (FMS) computer. It would be nearly impossible for an aircraft to lose inertial/mag heading at the same time they lose FMS without a total loss of power as they use completely different systems and technologies.

      @N1120A ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sounds like a FMC issue. These days, loss of navigation mid-atlantic would be highly inconvenient, but not horrifying. They could rely on their tablets and even phone apps, along with their compass and magnetometer assisted heading indicator, to get somewhere safe.

    • @lohphat
      @lohphat ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wonder what was lost.
      Was it the FMS? INS? VOR? GPS? being able to still fly magnetic headings is possible as all FMSs have magnetic compasses as the last resort.

    • @EdOeuna
      @EdOeuna ปีที่แล้ว

      They know they have to sound calm because of channels such as this, plus any emergency landing will be filmed by the majority of the passengers as well, so being a good actor is now a requirement for your average pilot.

      @@theHDRflightdeck - unfortunately not. It is something that has come up during sims recently, whereby we need to watch what we say and how we say it. This channel shows exactly why pilots need to stay calm, be to the point and not let emotions get in the way of their work.

    • @EdOeuna
      @EdOeuna ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theHDRflightdeck - it isn’t the sole purpose, but it is still a consideration. Airlines are very sensitive to their online presence in these modern times. Anything that makes the airline look bad, in the eyes of the public, risks damaging the business.
      I was talking to a pilot the other week who was dead heading on a flight. The operating captain received a message from company HQ telling him that an “influencer” on board was live streaming the flight and complaining about their IFE not working. The cabin supervisor asked the deadheading guy to swap seats. Some how the airline was monitoring social media and found about about the negative review being live streamed. Obviously not an example of clear communication, but it shows that this airline is very sensitive to social media output that is negative to the airline, and tis will extend to pilots communication skills.
