    I take 1 dose of Tresiba 30 units per day and it's brung my blood sugars down from 300 to 500 plus to 112 to 190. I also take Mounjaro 7.5 milligrams per week. They're trying to get my A1C down. It was 12.4. I'm also taking metforman twice daily.

    Great video. I’m returning back to Tresiba following a 2 year stint on Lantus. I did better on Tresiba but insurance didn’t cover it now it does. Looking forward to only 1 injection and less fluctuations in blood sugars. Appreciate your review very much. Thank You.

    I started Tresiba recently and I am very satisfied with it. Since I still produce some insulin, it gives me a good enough baseline to stay within range without bolus while on a very low carb diet. At least for now, LOL! But I found out that even though it does work on once a day, it is much better twice a day anyway. That way it even keeps my dawn phenomenon spike in check!

    Excellent video! I am experiencing high bs numbers at night and currently on Tresiba. The highs are due to a higher carb intake and fat content in my diet at dinner. Would be interested to see if Levemir would be more successful at managing my sugars when the fat absorption delays the carbs in the middltof the night. Perhaps you could do a video on what you eat and insight on how food choices impact levemir or tresiba basal dosage?

    As I found out from Dr. Bernstein, Levemir does NOT last for 24 hours. It only lasts for 8. The peak is 4 hours. I started 3 shots a day of Levemir with the lesser dose during sleep. My blood sugar control has improved more than I expected. My a1C went from 6.2 to 5.6 over 4 months. I never could make Tresiba work for me. Taking one extra Levemir shot is no big deal for that kind of improved control.

    Great video! My dosing with Levemir is similar. About 70% morning and 30% night (11U/5U). I find that if I proportion more at night and less in the morning, I can go low at night and blood glucose creeps up during the day without bolus corrections. • @DiabetesStrong

      You need to do what works for you. I've experimented with it over the years, and since Levemir (same for Lantus) does have a bit of a peak, and cortisol is lowest around 3 AM, taking a higher dose at night would consistently leave me with low blood sugars around 2/3 AM.

    Awesome videos! I’ve been lowering my Tresiba dose since I switched back from an insulin pump a couple months ago. I take it at night but have been experiencing lows in the middle of the night and in the mornings, which is frustrating since it’s not supposed to have a peak. Another thing I tried (just for a day though) was splitting my dose and it seemed to help, but my doctor recommended against doing that. Now I want to try taking it during the daytime to see if that helps me but I think it helps to keep the same schedule for noticing whether the morning lows are still prevalent (to keep something stable). Based on your experience, would you recommend sticking with the same timing until I no longer experience morning lows, or would you recommend changing my shot to the morning as I continue to lower my dose (try both at the same time)?

I should also mention I am disabled and my Mobility is extremely limited so I am not a physically active person and I really don't know hardly anything about the different kinds of insulin and how they work.. I just follow the doctor's orders after having been diagnosed with an A1C number of 12. I was very sick and in the hospital when they discovered this. I do try to watch my diet but I tell you lately it's been very difficult to stay away from the carbohydrates. I am having pretty good luck using sugar substitutes but the carbohydrates are tough. Basaglar is a long-acting insulin. Its generic name is Insulin glargine and it works like Lantus, which is also glargine. It's very similar to Levemir (Insulin detemir) but you might see that it impacts your blood sugars slightly differently. Do as your doctor recommends, and if you notice that your blood sugars run high or low too frequently, reach out to your doctor and discuss how to alter your dose. That's a great idea for a video. I can't record that right now, but suggest you dig into the website. Start with the article I mentioned on the different insulin types, and then also look at Carb counting and how exercise impacts blood sugars. I think that would be a great start

      Sounds like dawn phenomenon is hitting you hard. You might go low overnight if you increase your basal. You can try but I’d be nervous about going low. If it was me I’d probably take rapid-acting insulin at 6 when waking to counter the rise

      Lantus is very similar to Levemir. You can also get biosimilar versions of Lantus (check out my video on Semglee)which makes it one of the more affordable options. If you use Lantus, have a discussion with your doctor about splitting it (a morning and an evening dose)

      The best way to attempt intermittent fasting as a type 1 is by trial and error. You will definitely need a baseline insulin and I would not suggest even attempting it unless you have a cgm.

    • @DiabetesStrong
      @DiabetesStrong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you tried doing only 1 iu at 4 am or maybe pushing that dose out to 7 am? I think we all metabolize insulin a little differently so maybe her peak is a little later or that’s simply when she’s the most insulin sensitive.
      If it was me, I’d play around with the dose first (also pay attention to any boluses given from noon through 4 pm) and if that’s not it, the timing.

      I can tell you about pen needles. I have a NovoLog pen that measures Half units and I was using generic needles. My eyesight was going bad and my blood sugars were going up and I couldn’t understand it. I was doing the prime of two units to make sure the needles worked but apparently I couldn’t see it and used it anyway. Little did I know I was getting dry shots! My eyesight was so bad by the time I realized it and I called The manufacturer. They said never to use generic needles with novalog pens and that it would cause the warranty to invalidate upon using it with the pens! I had no idea and I have told several pharmacies not to use generic needles and only to use novafine Needles with novalog. I can’t believe how many pharmacies didn’t know that. I had to have surgery on my eyes and now I’m back to where I can see again. Thank God literally that I found out in time.

    You mentioned you use Tresiba twice a day on days that you are less active or eat more carbs; does this mean you no longer take a fast acting/mealtime insulin? Do you find twice a day tresiba works better for those days as opposed to adding a bolus insulin?

    • @DiabetesStrong
      @DiabetesStrong  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll always have to take rapid-acting insulin for meals and corrections as I have no insulin production. The twice-daily Tresiba choice is to make sure that I don't shoot up overnight. I'd rather take it twice than have to wake up and do a correction. Hope that makes sense
