This is the first new answer to this question I've heard in a while. Definitely will keep it in the back of my head for the right circumstances.

Nice job. What about they gave you a range that is less than what you’re looking for ?accept and move up with the interviews process and after you get a written offer you ask for an increase ? They want to to sign a written statement about the salary sometimes as well

Such great insight. I find that HR is getting really aggressive in attempting to get potential applicants to disclose a base minimum. They don’t want to waste interview time. (To which I counter why not be transparent about the salary range budget?) I’ve had HR disclose upfront that they want to know up front whether it’s worth pursuing you or not. Which should probably be an indicator of company values. Appreciate the language offered here. Thank you!

"To which I counter why not be transparent about the salary range budget?" This is a good one!

    Hi Deniz,
I used your advice, nearly word for word. It worked a treat! Got massive respect from my HR speaking partner. Thanks for the advice.

Thank you! I am so grateful I ran across your videos. I did not realize how bad I “missed the mark” and totally understand now why I am passed up. I like what you said in your videos, it’s performance, your the actor, and how disheartening to hear that there are fake interviews out there, although I suspected this. Also, I am a number meeting quota or they have someone else picked out but have to go through the motions.

The problem is when you fill out the job application online and it asks you to put in a figure. If you don’t you will not be able to proceed to the next step. This is common in the United States. Thank you for another awesome video

What if on the job application application you have to state expected salary. U must input a figure or you can't submit the form.

Not sure, I'd probably just put a symbolic figure like "1"

What about asking what the range is? Or if they don't tell, what about giving them a range, instead of a fixed number?

I would flip it back on them and say to that “I assume this is an already approved position, therefore, there must be an approved salary range for this position. Can you please share with me what is the salary range that has been already approved?”

      Very smart approach.

I agree. I flipped the question back on them when they bring up salary I never give them a actual figure. I asked a question back to them since you’re interviewing for this position what is the salary range of this position and I let them give me their range and it’s either going to work for me or it’s not.

    Hi Deniz
I wanted to check what to do if i have stated my current salary way more than actually it is due to the complex salary structure of an outsourcing process we have and after the hiring company shortlists me and asks me for a payslip or salary certificate. I am in a fix. Pls help advise
