Settled telling you to go inside straight away was a very clever way of getting you comfortable with the boss mechanics - My stupid-perfectionist-monkey-brain would never think of doing that at first; makes a lot of sense

Osrs is in the genre of pulp fiction. You're not supposed to be this grand god-killing, universe saving champion, rather an adventurer for hire, without some grand narrative. There are always entities way above your pay grade that no matter how much you level up, you'll never reach a comparable power level, and that's just life.

Listening to Settled coach Jimmy through the boss, then thinking of prayer-flicking on top of all the mechanical movement, attacking, prayer swapping, eating... I have so much respect for high tier Runescape players.
Almost no one tick flicks gauntlet outside of the combat achievement.
If anything the high tier strat is to not get any food and just make pots to redemption for all ur heals.
Which is arguably harder.

The idea of finding diaries and “newspapers” about from NPC’s perspectives in crates/chests is really cool! I searched pretty much every crate as a kid and was so depressed to find “you find nothing of interest”

39:30 Not spoilers since OSRS has went a different direction with the questline quite a bit, in RS3 they basically find a cure for artificial vampyrism. So a bunch of the ones that were being turned get turned back, and then Vanescula being in charge means they improve human living conditions in Morytania in exchange for tithing on the remaining, more manageable vampyre population.
Then Vanescula gets the idea that crossing the salve is the best option for the Vampires afterwards and we 'almost' get a war between Werewolves/Vampires & The Varrock Military. Sadly River of Blood never actually fulfilled that war and everything kind of gets settled after a single fight.
I mean yeah River of Blood ended after a single fight but single as in you're hopped up on Icyene/Vampire hybrid venom having a screen disorienting fight full of hallucinations for multiple phases while chasing the boss up Castle Drakan to try and cure him.
The fact that the most dangerous tree for vampires, in a dystopic and unaccessible city that's being guarded for centuries, is being casually chipped away by a guy in lumberjack clothes makes it clear that the mmo aspect of this game, story-wise, is purely for the weirdness

Vanstrom fight is a banger. Love when Jimbo does his "cant wake up mom" voice when things get intense.
I was way too happy when I got to 43:40 and realized we'd actually get to keep using the Ivandis Flail in this version. It was so dumb in RS3 that you finally get the super awesome vampyre killing weapon that took like 3 quests to make (the blessed sickle, the rod, then combining them) only to use it to kill one random vampyre guard and throw it out and make a blisterwood polearm instead.
Nah Blisterwood is way cooler. We make a weapon from a tree that was so resilient the vampyres tried to kill it for centuries, couldn't, then just gave up and sealed it away. I'd say it's metal as hell but it made of wood...
The Ivandis flail is a really dumb weapon anyway, it's a pokey bit on a chain on a stick. The reason it hits so badly is because of how ridiculously unwieldy it is - which is also the reason why it could hit vampyres at all, funnily enough

Thank you for making this series, J1mmy. I enjoyed Runescape as a child so I have nostalgia for it, but I can't tolerate the controls after playing other MMOs. This lets me get my RS fix without killing myself over the click to move system.
I'm only 45 mins in and already this might be my favorite By Release episode purely by how you're narrating this, how you're handling the Myreque group in particular Veliaf, genuinely made me laugh out loud multiple times, this is awesome Jimmy

I love this quest. It's one of the few Runescape quests that in both OSRS and RS3 They stayed Relatively the same, with slight changes to the OSRS to fit the flavor, and the conclusion for both ending with a decently challenging fight making one of the best quests Lorewise for Runescape as a whole. I can't wait to if we get a grandmaster quest for the follow up because Fighting Lord Drakan would be a cool ass fight on OSRS

protip: if you run to the middle when tornados spawn and wait for them to get close, they’ll stack up when you run away and then dodging becomes trivial
There are also safe spot tiles for the enrage phase. Floor tiles never spawn on them.

I've not yet made it through any of these later quests in osrs, but I've been on a bit of a rs3 binge lately, and it's really interesting to see how the vampyre storyline differs and yet stays the same between the two versions. It's definitely my favourite story in rs3 at least (still have yet to finish the elf one), and was always looking forward to experiencing both sides to compare them. Vanescula is definitely an all time favourite character for me

Congrats on doing CG and finishing sins of the father! I did that quest with about the same stats and had a lot of troubel with it. Also for CG, in the last phase (when the boss has 1/3rd of hp left) you can stand on the 3rd tile from any door and you won't have to move for the floor changes.
So, really funny note. This history of the Hunlef is that it's designed to train elves for combat. This boss heavily relies on switching prayer styles.
Meanwhile, in RS3 the elves are fighting in the elder god wars against the Arch-Glacor, and it is noted that they are unable to deal with changing combat styles, so the boss doing it kills slaughtering them.
Peculiar how the lore diverges.
They're probably some degenerate elves who are to busy with identity politics to identify changing combat attacks

28:51 I'm the guy who loves the following missions and that segment of this quest was the only time i actually had fun questing in RuneScape since osrs was released. Well, MM2 was pretty cool as well but that's it.
Watching the first 20 minutes gave me nostalgia to 2021, that rush on your first Gauntlet KC is unreal. Then every KC after that gets a little less exciting, then less exciting, then... Much, much less exciting. I just looted chest number 1,009 and 1,010 while watching this video. "One day I'll get that silly little enhanced seed" I tell myself as I enter back into the red prison of false hope.
I really need to get over my fear of dying in this game. I've only died once in like 18 years, because I'm way too careful. I still have the fear of losing everything, from before they made most deaths safe/semi-safe. So I still play as if dying will ruin the game for me forever. When I ask "am I ready for this quest?", I actually mean "am I ready to do this quest comfortably in one try, without any chance of death?".

Man Jimmy is insane for beating the Corrupted Gauntlet at that level. I'm 90+ combat stats (on a main so I have Rigour and Augury) and I can barely beat the fucking normal Gauntlet.

I just had to do the quests before so I do know that Denzel did tell you about the 7 in the previous vampire questline. One of them is Ivandis, and the whole plotline was looking into the records of the 7 to find Ivandis to recreate his vampire slayer weapon, which started as the Ivandis Rod and became the Ivandis Flail.
I hope they release the inevitable next quest in this series within the next year. This was one of the first times I was genuinely intrigued by a quest story

My CG push was the same as your stats. As long as you T2 each run you have the DPS. Also if he disabled your prayer, its ALWAYS magic. You save a -lot- of time on prep as you get better. A big part of it is menuing. I was generally able to do T2+20 Fish+2 Pots every single run. Maybe 1/20 would be bad RNG where I'd send it with T1 and it was hit and miss
I've done over 60 normal and corrupted gauntlets, and somehow I never new I could fill vials at fishing nodes, or crush the spike into shards...
Honestly, J1mmy did really well too. I'm sure it took me more than 16 deaths before I got my first CG.

Honestly, tackling the boss without any gear on your first Gauntlet attempt, just to get a taste for its mechanics and beef, is pretty smart.
I feel like Jad would be less intimidating if you could try him out without all the waves before him, just to get comfortable with him being there.

I had to do 972 CGs to get my bowfa :( And then I died to the vampire at the farming patch in Morytania with it in death storage, and I didn't get my replacement bowfa until KC 1420. Fun meme number, but fuck that sucked.
