  • This ShopRite location closed down in June 2021. They have made a new ShopRite across from this old one at the Kings Commons Shopping Center where the former Sears was. As I was filming, a truck pulled up and they said they are the owners of the old ShopRite building now and I forgot to ask them what they would convert it into. Hope it’s something useful for the community.

@@brianb7423yes the memories! Now I’m in Illinois far from home. The lady who worked the counter at Tai Hing’s name was Esther, back in the 90s.

@@vivacristorey1853 I think I remember. I was born in 93 so my memories of there are late 90s early 2000s. I don’t live in Middletown anymore either. But my parents are still there so i go up. It’s made quite a few changes

Great memories here. I used to come here with my friend and her mom after school and we would sneak upstairs and use the coffee machine and sat in the employee room while her mom was shopping. This was back in 2006! My dad used to buy sushi that used to make in the back.

Growing up in Middletown in the '60s, the first Shop Rite I recall was at the SW corner of New Monmouth Road and Hwy 35, where CVS is now (which had been an Ethan Allen). Sometime after 1970 Shop Rite moved to where that Walgreens currently stands. I wasn't around for the next move, but I assume it was to this newly-closed site.

That’s interesting. I remember where the cvs is now it used to be a value city furniture. And next to it I think was friendlys. I used to go there all the time lol

And yes you’re correct. The shoprite moved to this spot that he’s filming now. They closed this down because they opened a new shoprite where SEARS used to be across the highway. That’s a mega shoprite now haha

Yeah, the funny thing is I really wanted to film that Sears there but I was too late. They already demolished it lol

The Kmart also converted into a Home Depot as I did some research online, that Kmart closed in September 2004. But I never really seen a ShopRite convert into an Acme before, that's interesting
