  • In this video I tour my 160 square metre chicken run, pointing out the features that work for me, and suggestions for you (even you’ve got or are planning a much smaller set up!) My chickens never ever leave this ‘compound’ - I feel it is big enough and diverse enough to keep them happy, while also protecting them from foxes, dogs, eagles etc (all of which there are plenty in my area!). I really love what I’ve created, and it’s my hope that by sharing it with you you can take tips and inspiration for your own happy chicken set up!

    This is wonderful! I'm looking for a house in the country, and have been thinking about doing something like this, except the rooms (and a corridor). In each room the chickens would spend a year, followed by heavy feeding annual crops for a year, followed by less hungry annual cross the next year, until the chickens returned to feed the soil.

    • @alycealexandra
      @alycealexandra  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      great question! and one I get asked a lot. If I could change anything, I would put the berry room in the position that gets the least winter sun, and put the second veggie room in it's place. I didn't give the winter sun enough consideration, especially as the berry canes are completely dormant over winter! Other than that, nothing to change... I spent years designing and refining it before I built, and I think it paid dividends :) good luck with yours!! xx

    Such an inspiration video, i’m looking at doing similar (smaller scale due to space) so this video was so detailed and love the experience you have. I do have a question, what solar panel are you using and is it hooked up to a battery ?

      yep its hooked up to a battery! i honestly have no idea what it is as i put it in so many years ago. its not perfect but its done a pretty good job! havent ever used it for running anything other than the watering system, so dont know how much power its really got! sorry i cant be more helpful on that topic. thrilled that you got inspiration and advice from the video - that makes me so happy!! thanks for letting me know, and good luck with your own set up :) xx

    So, it is alright to plant immediately after the chickens are done fertilizing? I am working on a similar setup, but I thought I would need to let the manure age a few months or something. Just a wonderful garden you've made.

    • @alycealexandra
      @alycealexandra  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've never worried about it and never had a problem! the majority of fertiliser goes on the garden beds in the form of the chicken bedding (poo + straw) so this has already had a bit of aging "in situ" if that makes sense. Thank you for your kind words! I love it :)

    • @alycealexandra
      @alycealexandra  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it was a thinner wine that was rolled up, and we unrolled it accorss the top and nailed it into the frame using u nails... then got little bits of wire and used them to attach the long 'sheets' of wire together... does that make sense? its pretty flimsy wire on the top, not like the of the enclosure!

    • @erbacherp
      @erbacherp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
