Just a heads up for shrink plastic, you can use a heat gun on it. I've done shrink plastic and uv resin on top. It does work after the shrink plastic is fully shrunk down.
Agreed! It shouldn't be doing any of that...I think not only is it $$ cheap, the stuff she was given was clearly cheaply made and bad quality. Try again with better quality shrink plastic Jackie!
Some craft supplies can not be cheap. Shrinky dink is one. Miniaturesweets.com is another resin site but also where I get both regular and printable shrink plastoc.
Yes I came here to say that. I used to do crafts with shrink plastic when I was a child. It never warped like that and always made cute projects. I think she would've a different result with better quality shrink plastic.
Shrink plastic buckles as it shrinks - baking for longer would have fixed it. Also, sanding in a circular motion would have made a more uniform and consistent surface for the resin to adhere. Also, I think you would have had a better result with the apple if you had done it as small as she did. You didn’t adjust the bake time to the size of the apple you did, and I think the under baking and size worked against you.
Very insightful I didn't think of that (with the apple) well, I also didn't know to cook a little longer to get desired results on the shrink... Thanks 👍
Jackie, they do curl up, after curling they should flatten, what I do is that a pan and flatten them after taking them out. Also they have to be on a flat pan not in one that has any edge. So flip the pan upside down. I find that if you flatten them with something immediately after getting them out they will fully flatten. I should say it took me several tries till I did it right. But they need to curl, then wait for them to curl out. It’s pretty different tbh and I don’t blame you for not getting it right. XD
Not only that even in shrinks a dink plastic when you shrink it sometimes you have to use a utensil to flatten it when its still hot depending on how intricate the design
Helpful tip!! If you ever try shrink plastic again in the future, I recommend measuring out a small piece and marking it like a ruler with a Sharpie. I did a piece that was 15cm long (before shrinking) and I marked it in 1/2cm increments and then I shrank it down in the oven. Now you have a way to plan how much to use of the shrink plastic for the project by measuring out the piece and comparing it to the ruler that's been shrunk! It's really helpful! Hopefully that makes sense! >____< Also I recommend using the Shrinky Dinks Rough and Ready shrink plastic. It does take longer than 10 seconds to shrink, but the quality is a lot nicer! Also shrink plastic is fragile, so be very careful when cutting it! In the Tukulot video, immediately after they take the shrink plastic out of the oven, they smashed it down to make it flat, you can use a glass plate or something in your kitchen! Large pieces of shrink plastic tends to warp and stick to itself when baking (which I think might have been your problem), so usually you need to watch it and use chopsticks or something to separate it from itself before it should eventually flatten out. If it's not flattened when you remove it from the oven, you need to flatten it with a plate or something! I hope this helps!!
I just did a rather large piece just a few minutes ago with printable shrink plastic. Yes it curled, but generally you do not need to take it out. It'll flatten out when it shrinks more. :) The only time you would need to take it out is if it folded on itself cause then it sticks to itself and at that point it's just best to start over and try again.
I love how honest you are and help people save money before spending it on something that's not going to work. You are brilliant! Even if you are sponsored you tell the truth where as some people say nice things just because they are sponsored then people go and buy it and it doesn't work. You're fantastic! Keep doing what you do! X

Hi to help you with the butterfly wings the oven time is not realistic a lot of the time you have to watch the shrink in till it flattens and with the other part just add tape around it so the resin stays on or start in the middle and do small drops like on a Penney with water You got this don’t give up so fast love your art and learn from your failure because that’s how true art is born
Shrinky Dinks do that if you take it out before it fully shrinks, but flattens and sturdys once fully shrunk, but it usually doesn't even take a minute. You should try a different brand, they're really cool when they work!
I can't decide between the coloring outside of the apple with layers of pastels and the pearlescent coloring of the wand. I felt visually entertained and pleased by both ❤
Please do a monthly video on the elves box! A lot of artists do it w/ scrawlrbox and your kit seemed so intresting! I really wanted to see how the silver circles would look w/ resin
Ooohhhh. The shrink plastic one. Ouch. But the instacraft looks so good and looks pretty simple if you have a few tips. If you have a toaster oven you could bake it in that too. But even if in an oven, you should preheat and then put in your plastic when it's warm enough. I find that when I put it straight in while it's heating it doesn't look as good in the end. You could also save even more paper by just placing the picture underneath and trace on top (it also lets you keep the paper in tact for future projects!) And my last tip to share for the cutting, which I had to learn the hard way. I really tried to save lots of my plastic but you really can't help it sometimes, you have to swivel your pieces. You really, really, really, can't cut pieces in one go. As I'm looking at the wing and trying to envision how I'd cut it, I would have probably taken 10-13 cuts to get the piece. I really hope you try it again and realize how much fun and possibilities there are in shrink plastic!
Worked with Shrinky Dink Ruff and Ready shrink plastic the other day. It already has a frosted texture and it shrinks to a third of the size you cut out. It works really well, I did a 2.25 in squared template design and it shrunk to 3/4 of an inch. And it has a thick edge. 10/10 would recommend
And my first and only time with it, no holes were poked. And it works with most coloring materials and paints, I believe, except watercolor and crayons.
WOW .. This takes me back!! My mum & I used to do this all the time. I think we mostly did keyrings, but as I said, it was a lifetime ago! I'm so glad its making a come back!! Its highly addictive, once you've got the hang of it, but just persevere with it & HAVE FUN!!
Something I haven't seen others mentioned in regards to the wing, the shrink plastic specifically reacts to heat, so putting the uv resin on top of the unshrunken plastic and then applying heat (uv resin heats up like crazy), of course it's going to warp. Once it's shrunk down, the heat won't affect it anymore , at least not in short bursts from the curing time since it's become much thicker. I've done this kind of stuff with success.
Very tempted to try that resin-wand thing! Though I doubt mine would turn out as good haha Also, super stoked you saw my drawing! Looking forward to your future projects! :D #grainforlife
Jackie, I know I'm a year late but I wanted to say you are awesome and I love how you dive in to new mediums whole heartedly even if you're scared! Two itty bitty points: Shrinky Dinks will flatten with more cooking time and if they don't, put some heavy books on them when they are still hot. The second is: using the pointy thing to hold your apple like the Instagram person did so there isn't mess on your fingers or smudging might have worked better. DON'T EVER GIVE UP, TRY, TRY AGAIN! With love from Maine!
I did a little test and traced the cat on the front of the package to see how much it would shrink, and I found out that it does shrink a lot more!!! Also I used the same plastic and it turned out so idk if you got a bad one or something but....

for the wand mold and the pearlex powder you can try using tape to block spillage a little, wand mold probably to small and detailed but it might help 🥰
I'd love to see you try the realistic fruit with your method! Surely some of your sculptures could use them?? I'm glad you also had a bit of a struggle with the wand! Huge butterfly fan, so would love to see a way to make that craft work!! 🦋🧙♂️🍎
We love you Jackie! After my sister and I watch your videos we try and act like you at each other. Your personality cheers us up so much and we hope this next year, you get the help you need so you can be a happy salt shaker for us grains. p.s. Can you tell I failed English in school?
I make miniatures, Apple's so tiny you have to use magnifier to see them. I do everything to the apple, and half apple, before I bake them. I also use sculpey so try doing it without baking first, oh and don't use water they clay will hold onto the pastel. Also to get a good base for an Apple mix part translucent with white.
I love how your apple exterior turned out, that looks amazing! Shrink plastic by the ones who make actual Shrinky Dinks seems like a good type to use, but both Miniature Sweet and Sophie & Toffee have it, and I love theirs too! The pearlex powders inside the mold is one of my favorite craft hacks, the powder is dense enough you can even fill the mold with clear resin and it looks solid ☺ Something else I'd love to see you craft: pearlex powders inside the mold + hot glue 🙂 Its so satisfying, and the pieces look 100x better than glue! 🤣 Love your channel!!
I love the wand! Thank you for showing us that. I have my box, but am still so new to resin, I’ve been too nervous to try it. I think I’ll make s wand tonight!
Jackie if you wanna use shrink plastic again, I would suggest that while it is still hot, you take a plastic spatula and flatten them to help them not curl up. Also if you want to make something simulier to the butterfly earrings, I would suggest cutting out the butterfly wings and then coloring them with colored pencil in the design that you want. Follow the instructions on your packaging maybe wait a little longer just to make sure that they are nice and flat. Then after that, you can actually mod Podge the colored pencil to make sure that it doesn't come off so easily, you can dab on the mod Podge do a couple of coats, and then you can actually use mod Podge dimensional magic to give a resin effect.
Yeah, I was also going to say the shrink plastic was the problem. I've never had problems like that with shrinky dink. It looks like it could be really neat!
The mini apple was my fav. even though it reminded me of cutting open a gumball.. kinda. You should try it in the freezer and let us know if that works better. Idk what I'd do with a bunch of little apples but I'll find something! But that purple dust... OMGorgeous!! Glad to see you're still our same loveable, quirky Jackie and still keeping your chin up. **HUGS**
the shrink plastic tut reminds me so much of my childhood, would spend so much time painting and cutting out characters with the plastic and shrinking them in the toaster
#NerdEficationsquad I was so sad when i wayched your last video, where you were crying... It made me so happy to see you laugh in this video❤️ Love you so much💕
To be honest the first time i played with resin i was really afraid it wouldn’t come out of the mold so i put mica powder in it to help, so that technique may not be all that strange
#notifactionsquad all your crafts are good and yours there your art and it's unique and I just love your videos and your crafts just keep up the good work
Tips about shrink plastic: •Preheat the oven properly •don't try to shrink too large pieces because the shrinking process involves twisting and curving, and the bigger your initial piece is the more likely it will try twist on itself •usually the shrinking takes 2-3 minutes or so, but the warping is not your only sign. When it finishes warping, you can also see that the smaller piece of plastic is also thicker than the original sheet. •don't give up on shrinking plastic, I think you should try to read up on it and try again because it's really one of those things you could enjoy.
I've tried shrink plastic before and it worked maybe you should make a butterfly wing template smaller so that it'll actually work no hate please don't salt on me
jackiiiiieeeee don’t use dollar store shrink plasticccc!!!! if you buy regular shrink plastic [or the Shrinky Dink brand] once you heat it and it shrinks it won’t re-warp again with the heat of the resin. i’d love for you to try that craft again bc i think the resin part could be really cool looking!!

Crafters: Don't we all!
painters and illustrators: hell yeah we all do!
I'm colorblind
I make miniatures, Apple's so tiny you have to use magnifier to see them. I do everything to the apple, and half apple, before I bake them. I also use sculpey so try doing it without baking first, oh and don't use water they clay will hold onto the pastel. Also to get a good base for an Apple mix part translucent with white.
Omg Jackie you should try Japanese DIY Candy Kits!
Yeetus that feetus lol did she just do this?
@@Adrianaisjawsome I commented this and the next day she did upload a video xD
Ha that’s awesome!!
My mom bought one once and I just stole all the candy
I would love to see you do a video of fixing Instagram DIY so they actually work
she cant even follow the instrutions on the shrink plastic, she wouldnt be able to fix anything
Love your channel!!
Me: Looks in description
Also Me: Sees that Jackie will make a Harry Potter wand
Also Also Me: YASSSSS!!!!!!

Thank you for shoutouting me! (Im chaseki gf btw) you made my day
I love the wand! Thank you for showing us that. I have my box, but am still so new to resin, I’ve been too nervous to try it. I think I’ll make s wand tonight!
Realistic, miniature polymer clay food is my jam!!
A very specific jam... 🤔
GRAPE
shrink plastic is my material of choice!
shrink plastic, when shrunk, is very rigid.
i have no idea wby yours didnt work though
4:28 The pitch adjusted "In the TRASH" sounded almost exactly like Danny DeVito lmaooo

Love your vids ❤️
Different brands of shrink plastic do different things
Make sure you don't buy the salty ones
Yeah, I was also going to say the shrink plastic was the problem. I've never had problems like that with shrinky dink. It looks like it could be really neat!
The mini apple was my fav. even though it reminded me of cutting open a gumball.. kinda. You should try it in the freezer and let us know if that works better. Idk what I'd do with a bunch of little apples but I'll find something! But that purple dust... OMGorgeous!!
Glad to see you're still our same loveable, quirky Jackie and still keeping your chin up. **HUGS**

Cassies Cookies you look like me but pink!
Yes nerdecrafter is back#nerdefacationsquad
Me:*chokes
Other:are you ok
Me: sorry just choking on salt
the shrink plastic tut reminds me so much of my childhood, would spend so much time painting and cutting out characters with the plastic and shrinking them in the toaster
Jackie: I love colours so much!
Me: who doesn’t love colours?!
Also me 5 seconds later: anyone going through their emo phase.....
I feel your pain Jackie I’ve tried a bunch of these crafts and failed oh so horribly 😖
#Nerdifacation Squad
Jackie here is a tip
once the shrink plastic comes out of the oven while it is still hot, you can flatten it!
#NerdEFicationSquad Hi! I look forward to watching your videos as soon as I see them on my feed
Unrelated but I really like your profile picture
Peridot is just precious.
#NerdEficationsquad
I was so sad when i wayched your last video, where you were crying... It made me so happy to see you laugh in this video❤️
Love you so much💕
I love that you’re learning things from these jack videos.
To be honest the first time i played with resin i was really afraid it wouldn’t come out of the mold so i put mica powder in it to help, so that technique may not be all that strange
#notifactionsquad all your crafts are good and yours there your art and it's unique and I just love your videos and your crafts just keep up the good work
Tips about shrink plastic:
•Preheat the oven properly
•don't try to shrink too large pieces because the shrinking process involves twisting and curving, and the bigger your initial piece is the more likely it will try twist on itself
•usually the shrinking takes 2-3 minutes or so, but the warping is not your only sign. When it finishes warping, you can also see that the smaller piece of plastic is also thicker than the original sheet.
•don't give up on shrinking plastic, I think you should try to read up on it and try again because it's really one of those things you could enjoy.
Nerdecrafter says I suck so bad at making things realistic NO I bring the power of the salt grains to say that you are great!
I've tried shrink plastic before and it worked maybe you should make a butterfly wing template smaller so that it'll actually work no hate please don't salt on me
Your Apple looks good, Jackie! Also, I totally saw apples in Japan that were pretty much just as round as yours :)
Person: *uses coat of yellow*
Her: so we need to do a coat of green
Is anybody gonna mention that Moriah knows how to the shrink plastic??? 😅🤷🏻♀️
Me
jackiiiiieeeee don’t use dollar store shrink plasticccc!!!! if you buy regular shrink plastic [or the Shrinky Dink brand] once you heat it and it shrinks it won’t re-warp again with the heat of the resin.
i’d love for you to try that craft again bc i think the resin part could be really cool looking!!
Moriah always use shrink plastic for her pins!~
We know
