Do you think you will have problems ripping diffs and the bearing cages in the cv's? I had constant problems passing 400 ft lbs of torque bc the rear end is too small. I've been looking at swapping the large case diff from a 7 series in. Will require some fabrication but the CV's and the diff are a lot beefier. I'm curious to see if the 188mm can take an ls motor.
From the reading I’ve done it sounds like the diff should be able to handle around 400 ftlbs (with the secondary diff mount). But the axles I believe will be a weak point for sure. I know there are HD axles available but they do seem quite expensive. I’ve heard of the 7 series diff swap, but I was thinking that if I was going to go through all the work to swap in a different diff, I would most likely go Ford 8.8 because of their availability, price, and aftermarket support. For the time being it’s all about how you drive the car. The goal for this summer is to get it on the road and I will definitely be cautious with hard launches (although so tempting haha).
The stock axles are actually really strong, but they have an interior and exterior joint which has bearings and a little cage to hold them, which is only 3 or 4 mm thick. every set of axles Ive ruined, it was the bearing cage on the interior joint, which is the removable one fortunately...so if you end up shredding axles like I did, have a machine shop make you a set, I forget what alloy I had them made from, but they lasted way longer, but they were still the weak point. the HD axles are so expensive because the whole thing is 4340 steel and its beefed up which is way overkill.
@@slightlyMADcustoms If I design a perfected prototype for the CV I will send you the 3d model so you can have a set machined too. It's cheap that way because they can just plug in the design to the 5 axis router.
Hey man just a question, is that 168 diff? They say 188 is much more robust but if you’re doing fine with it then it means i can use it for my m52b28 swap with no problem🤔
No mine is a 188. You can probably get away running the 168 with a m52. Although it’s all about how you drive it. And that will be your weak link for sure
